    Treetop detection was conducted at a dense bamboo (<i>Phyllostachys nigra</i> var. <i>henonis</i>) forest using local maximum filtering (LMF) with a circular window under a high-resolution digital surface model (DSM) via UAV images. Optimal window size (WS) was evaluated based on applications in some WS cases. Treetop detection results showed that the highest <i>F</i>-value was obtained in 0.5-m WS, with a detection accuracy that was relatively higher than that of a previous study, although in a denser bamboo forest. Thus, high-resolution DSM and an appropriate WS are important factors for accurate treetop detection by LMF.

    To clarify the factors that govern the water temperature characteristics in a basin, in this study, the observed water temperature and the equilibrium water temperature were used to build regression tree models with the modified thermal sensitivity (<i>dM<sub>m</sub>T<sub>w</sub>/dM<sub>m</sub>T<sub>eq</sub></i>) or the thermal equilibrium difference (<i>M<sub>a</sub>T<sub>w</sub>−M<sub>a</sub>T<sub>eq</sub></i>) as the objective variable. Additionally, 33 characteristics related to the basin and channel were used as the explanatory variables. The variable importance analysis was performed using the developed models. The results revealed that the channel characteristics such as the channel length and slope, and basin characteristics such as the catchment area and elevation are the most important variables for the gradient. Additionally, with regard to the deviation, the variables related to the land use or cover in the catchment areas, such as forest, grassland, and agricultural land, and the aspect-slope that receives solar radiation are the main factors that drive an increase in water temperature.

    Sand cover rate (SCR) is an important factor to explain the foraging habitats of ayu (<i>Plecoglossus altivelis</i>). Hence, a module of riverbed variation in a gravel-bed river with bimodal sediments was developed. The module calculated SCR, and the changes in SCR were defined as being driven by sand transport in the form of a suspended load that is deposited on stones (e.g., cobbles or pebbles) and in the interstices of stones. The prediction accuracy was examined by comparing the calculated SCR with the SCR measured in the field. The results showed that the spatial pattern of sand deposition/erosion predicted by the module was almost close to the measured one, though the predicted SCR tended to be higher/lower than the measured value. Chronological changes in the SCR calculated by the module suggested that sand deposits started forming along shorelines after the peak of a flood and then expanded toward the centers of the flow in channels in the end stage.

    本年度は,前年度までに開発を進めた物質循環・生態系統合モデルの検証を進めるために,(1)対象河川における検証データの収集と,(2)観測された現象の数値解析モデルによる再現を試みた.
    まず,検証データの収集については,水系スケールでの物理・生物・化学的プロセスに基づき,数値解析モデルを検証するために河川生態系代謝の観測を実施した.これは,有機物の生産と消費から,水圏生態系の特徴を明らかにするものであり,本研究では,初夏から初冬にかけて据置型の機器を現地に設置し,継続的な観測を行った.観測結果より,総生産速度,生態系呼吸速度および純生態系生産速度から,河川景観に依存した代謝構造の特徴を抽出し,対象水系での流程特性を明らかにした.なお,セグメント1(礫床区間)にある一部の観測地点を除き,従属栄養となる当該水系の特徴を捉えた.
    次に,観測に基づき抽出された,生態系代謝の時空間特性を検討材料として,数値解析モデルが有する再現性や応答性の把握を進めた.対象水系を模した諸条件を設定し,数値解析を実行した結果,観測された代謝構造の流程変化を記述し,また,純生態系生産速度をオーダーレベルで再現した.これに加えて,出水攪乱効果の検討では,物理的攪乱に伴う純生態系生産速度の著しい低下と,その後の回復過程を数値解析により表現した.また,現地観測では礫床と比して,砂床区間での出水攪乱に対する生態系代謝の高い応答性が認められており,本数値解析モデルを用いて,この特徴を記述した.
