    In this study, we showed the effect of Sb substitution on lattice structures, physical properties and photocatalytic activities for the double-perovskite oxides with mixed valence. High quality powders of Ba2Tb(Bi1-xSbx)O6 (0.1 ≤ x≤ 1.0) were successfully synthesized using a citrate pyrolysis approach. Through partial substitution of Sb at Bi site of this compound, it was possible to design oxidative photocatalysts at lower x, and reduction-type ones at higher x. These findings are discussed on the basis of the conduction and valence band edge potentials of a series of Ba2(Tb, Pr)(Bi, Sb)O6 photocatalysts. The Sb substituted sample with the x = 0.6 composition predicted from the machine learning procedure exhibited the highest performance of methylene blue degradation, which is comparable to typical degradation rates for good perovskite catalysts.

    In this study, we showed the crystal structure, electric resistivity, Seebeck and Hall coefficients, magneto-resistance, and magnetic susceptibility of Pr1-xCaxBa2Cu4O8 (x = 0.0, 0.02, and 0.05) are all relevant for our understanding of physical properties along CuO double chains. The lattice parameters of Ca substituted PrBa2Cu4O8 remained almost invariant up to x = 0.05. Contrary to the Ca doping effect in the PrBa2Cu3O7-delta system, the significant increases in the Seebeck and Hall coefficients due to the Ca substitution indicate a decrease in the carrier number. The significant magneto-resistance effect in the parent sample (16% at 10 K) was significantly reduced down to 5% in the x = 0.05 composition. On the basis of the two types of carrier models, we discussed the influence of Ca substitution on the electrical transport and magneto-transport properties.

    A citrate pyrolysis technique is a unique route to prepare reactive precursor mixtures through an ignition process of concentrated aqueous solution. This procedure enables to synthesize highly homogeneous and fine powders for functional materials. The double-chain based superconductor Pr2Ba4Cu7O15−δ and double perovskite photocatalytic semiconductor Ba2Tb(Bi,Sb)O6 were synthesized by using the citrate pyrolysis technique. For the present sample with a reduction treatment for 72 h, a sharp superconducting transition appeared at an onset temperature Tc,on=26 K accompanied by a zero-resistance state at Tc,zero=22 K. The superconducting volume fraction estimated from the magnetization measurement showed an excellent value of ∼58%. Both reduction treatment in a vacuum and subsequent quenching procedure are needed to realize higher superconductivity due to further oxygen defects. The polycrystalline samples for Ba2Tb(Bi1−x,Sbx)O6 (x=0 and 0.5) were formed in the monoclinic and cubic crystal structures. We conducted the gaseous 2-propanol (IPA) and methylene blue (MB) degradation experiments under a visible light irradiation, to evaluate photocatalytic activities of the powder samples. For the Sb50% substituted sample, the highest performance of MB degradation was observed. The effect of Sb-substitution on the photocatalytic degradation of MB is in direct contrast to that on the IPA decomposition under visible light irradiation. The enhanced photocatalytic properties in the citrate samples are attributed to their morphology, where fine particles are homogeneously distributed with a submicron order.

    In the quasi-one-dimensional superconductor, Pr2Ba4Cu7O15-delta, we found that the lattice parameter, a increased against pressure, starting at 2.0 GPa at approximately 300 K. This result suggests that the two-dimensional inter-conducting-chain interaction along the a axis is most enhanced at approximately 2.0 GPa. To discuss the dimensionality, we also measured the resistance under magnetic fields up to 14 T, because magneto-resistance is induced when a system changes from one-dimensional to two-dimensional.

    © 1965-2012 IEEE. We measured the temperature dependence of the dielectric constant of the electron-doped manganite CaMn1-xSbxO3 (x = 0.1, 0.12, 0.13, 0.15, and 0.2). The real part exhibits a broad peak and the imaginary part exhibits a shoulder structure at a lower temperature in all the samples, suggesting a gradual growth of clusters which has a dipole ordering. We newly revealed that the temperatures of these dielectric anomalies are enhanced by more than 90 K by the Sb substitution from x = 0.1 to x = 0.2. The result indicates that the carrier concentration should be a decisive parameter for the dipole ordering in CaMn1-xSbxO3. Moreover, a magnetocapacitive effect is observed in all the samples.

    There is strong experimental evidence that the superconductor Sr-2 RuO4 has a chiral p-wave order parameter. This symmetry does not require that the associated gap has nodes, yet specific heat, ultrasound, and thermal conductivity measurements indicate the presence of nodes in the superconducting gap structure of Sr2RuO4. Theoretical scenarios have been proposed to account for the existence of deep minima or accidental nodes (minima tuned to zero or below by material parameters) within a p-wave state. Other scenarios propose chiral d-wave and f-wave states, with horizontal and vertical line nodes, respectively. To elucidate the nodal structure of the gap, it is essential to know whether the lines of nodes (or minima) are vertical (parallel to the tetragonal c axis) or horizontal (perpendicular to the c axis). Here, we report thermal conductivity measurements on single crystals of Sr2RuO4 down to 50 mK for currents parallel and perpendicular to the c axis. We find that there is substantial quasiparticle transport in the T =0 limit for both current directions. A magnetic field H immediately excites quasiparticles with velocities both in the basal plane and in the c direction. Our data down to T-c/30 and down to H-c2 /100 show no evidence that the nodes are in fact deep minima. Relative to the normal state, the thermal conductivity of the superconducting state is found to be very similar for the two current directions, from H = 0 to H =H-c2. These findings show that the gap structure of Sr 2 RuO 4 consists of vertical line nodes. This rules out a chiral d-wave state. Given that the c-axis dispersion (warping) of the Fermi surface in Sr2RuO4 varies strongly from sheet to sheet, the small a -c anisotropy suggests that the line nodes are present on all three sheets of the Fermi surface. If imposed by symmetry, vertical line nodes would be inconsistent with a p-wave order parameter for Sr2RuO4. To reconcile the gap structure revealed by our data with a p-wave state, a mechanism must be found that produces accidental line nodes in Sr2RuO4.

    We use a surface-selective angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and unveil the electronic nature on the topmost layer of Sr2RuO4 crystal, consisting of slightly rotated RuO6 octahedrons. The. band derived from the 4d(xy) orbital is found to be about three times narrower than that for the bulk. This strongly contrasts with a subtle variation seen in the a and a bands derived from the one-dimensional 4d(xz/yz). This anomaly is reproduced by the dynamical mean-field theory calculations, introducing not only the onsite Hubbard interaction but also the significant Hund's coupling. We detect a coherence-to-incoherence crossover theoretically predicted for Hund's metals, which has been recognized only recently. The crossover temperature in the surface is about half that of the bulk, indicating that the naturally generated monolayer of reconstructed Sr2RuO4 is extremely correlated and well isolated from the underlying crystal.

    To examine the electronic phase diagram of superconducting CuO double chains, we report the effect of external pressure on the magneto-transport properties in superconducting and non-superconducting polycrystalline samples of Pr<sub>2</sub>Ba<sub>4</sub>Cu<sub>7</sub>O<sub>15−δ</sub>at low temperatures (1.8–40 K) under various magnetic fields (up to 14 T). In the as-sintered non-superconducting sample, the magneto-resistance (MR) follows a power law of <italic>H</italic><sup>3/2</sup>at low temperatures, which is in no agreement with the <italic>H</italic><sup>2</sup>dependence of MR in the PrBa<sub>2</sub>Cu<sub>4</sub>O<sub>8</sub>system. The negative pressure dependence of the superconducting phase is qualitatively consistent with a theoretical prediction on the basis of the Tomonaga–Luttinger liquid theory. The 48-h-reduced superconducting sample at ambient pressure exhibits no clear increase in MR for <italic>T</italic>> <italic>T</italic><sub>c,on</sub>= 26.5 K. In contrast, with the application of pressure to the superconducting sample, the MR effects reappear and are also well fitted by <italic>H</italic><sup>3/2</sup>. The model of slightly warped Fermi surfaces explains not only the MR effect of the non-superconducting sample, but is also related to the reasons for the pressure-induced MR phenomena of the superconducting sample.

    Bilayered perovskite (La0.4Pr0.6)(1.2)Sr1.8Mn2O7 exhibits a field-induced paramagnetic-insulator to ferromagnetic-metal transition, and a phase-separated state is realized after the field is switched off. In order to clarify the thermodynamic properties of the phase-separated state which is a common feature in many manganites, we performed specific heat measurement with field along the magnetization easy axis. We have revealed that the remanent specifc heat might exhibit a stretched exponential decay and the relaxation time is remarkably long. These results indicate the importance of magnetic frustration originating from the competition between double-exchange interaction and superexchange interaction.

    Pr2Ba4Cu7O15は還元処理によって超伝導を示し、CuO二重鎖が1次元的な超伝導を示す点においてCuO2面上2次元超伝導を示す他の銅酸化物とは異質であるとして注目を集めている。我々は本物質の熱力学特性を明らかにすべく、還元前の非超伝導試料および還元後の超伝導試料について比熱測定を行い、前者では反強磁性転移に由来する型の異常を、後者では還元で生じたPr3+の結晶場効果に由来するショットキー型の異常を見出した。

    超伝導秩序変数の軌道部分が2成分から成ると考えられているSr2RuO4 について、面内の結晶対称性を4回対称から2回対称へと低下させる面内一軸性圧力のもとで交流磁化率測定を行った。超伝導転移のオンセット温度が約1.5 Kから3.3 Kにまで上昇することを明らかにした。この結果は結晶対称性の低下に伴う軌道縮退の解消によって軌道1成分の新奇超伝導相が出現したためと理解できる。さらに、圧力方向によって3-K超伝導の出やすさが異なることを見出し、その結果をRu-Oボンド長やフェルミ面における変形の違いに基づき解釈した。

    We have investigated the in-plane uniaxial pressure effect on the antiferromagnetic Mott insulator Ca2RuO4 from resistivity and magnetization measurements. We succeeded in inducing the ferromagnetic metallic phase at lower critical pressure than by hydrostatic pressure, indicating that the flattening distortion of the RuO6 octahedra is more easily released under in-plane uniaxial pressure. We also found a striking in-plane anisotropy in the pressure responses of various magnetic phases: although the magnetization increases monotonically with pressure diagonal to the orthorhombic principal axes, the magnetization exhibits peculiar dependence on pressure along the in-plane orthorhombic principal axes. This peculiar dependence can be explained by a qualitative difference between the uniaxial pressure effects along the orthorhombic a and b axes, as well as by the presence of twin domain structures.

    We study the uniaxial pressure effect on the Mott insulator Ca2RuO4. It is known that the crystal structure is a crucial parameter to determine the electronic states in this system. We revealed that a metal-insulator (M-I) transition is induced by the uniaxial pressure along the ab-plane at room temperature and the metallic state is sustained under cooling down to 5 K. In contrast, such a transition to a metallic state is not observed by the uniaxial pressure along the c-axis. Our experimental results suggest that the elongation of the RuO6 octahedra along the c-axis can trigger the M-I transition.

    One of the interesting issues on the spin-triplet superconductor Sr2RuO4 (T-c = 1.5 K) is the origin of the T-c enhancement up to about 3 K in the eutectic system Sr2RuO4-Ru. We have recently revealed a striking fact that T-c of pure Sr2RuO4 is also enhanced up to 3.2 K by uniaxial pressure along the c axis (P-parallel to c). When P-parallel to c is applied to Sr2RuO4-Ru, there is a crossover at P-parallel to c* similar to 0.4 GPa from behavior attributable to interfacial superconductivity (SC) to behavior similar to that in pure Sr2RuO4 under P-parallel to c. We focus on the field-temperature phase diagrams of Sr2RuO4-Ru above and below P-parallel to c*. We revealed that the H-T curves of Sr2RuO4-Ru both above and below P-parallel to c* are concave-up. This fact suggests that the P-parallel to c-originated SC above P-parallel to c*c as well as the interfacial SC below P-parallel to c*c are granular-like. We also found that the H-T curves of these SCs do not scale with T-c's, which is possibly related to a difference in the spatial distribution of superconducting regions.

    We have investigated uniaxial pressure effect on superconductivity of pure Sr2RuO4, whose intrinsic superconducting transition temperature T-c is 1.5 K. It is revealed that a very low uniaxial pressure along the c axis, only 0.2 GPa, induces superconductivity with the onset T-c above 3 K. The present results indicate that pure Sr2RuO4 has two superconducting phases with T-c=1.5 K and with varying T-c up to 3.2 K. The latter phase exhibits unusual features and is attributable to anisotropic crystal distortions beyond the elastic limit.

    ホンダ・フジシマ効果を基礎として開発された光触媒技術は,有害化学物質の分解などの環境浄化や水分解などの持続可能な次世代のエネルギー技術として期待されている。
    酸化チタンに代わる光触媒材料として有望なダブルペロブスカイト型酸化物半導体の磁場配向薄膜試料を作製し,構造評価,磁気特性,電子状態、光学特性及び光触媒特性の評価を行う。さらに第一原理計算により当該物質の結晶構造から電子構造を推定し,光触媒特性の基礎物性と高機能化の条件を解明する。
    ホンダ・フジシマ効果を基礎として開発された光触媒技術は,有害化学物質の分解などの環境浄化や水分解などの持続可能な次世代のエネルギー技術として期待されている。本研究では,酸化チタンに代わる新規な光触媒物質として有望な可視光応答型ダブルペロブスカイト型酸化物半導体を創製し,その基礎物性を調査し,f電子の価数揺動と関連する異常な光触媒特性の機構解明を目的とする。
    2019年度は、Ba2PrBiO6母物質のBiサイトを元素置換した良質な粉末試料をサイトレイト法により作製し,結晶構造評価,磁気特性,電子状態,光学特性及び光触媒特性の評価を実行した。さらに第一原理計算により当該物質の結晶構造から電子構造を推定し,元素置換によるバンドギャップ制御,混合原子価型元素のキャリア再結合抑制効果および試料作製プロセスに依存する結晶粒の組織制御の3つの観点から光触媒特性の高機能化の条件を解明した。
    1.サイトレイト法作製により均一で微細な結晶粒を合成することが可能となった。特に結晶粒の微細化により比表面積が向上した。Sbの置換量に対する相図を作成し、低置換で単斜晶構造、極端ドープで菱面体構造、中間ドープ域で相分離状態をとることが分かった。
    2.磁気特性からPrイオンは3価と4価の価数共存状態をとり、XPSの結果とも一致する。また、この共存状態が電子とホールの再結合を抑制する電荷分離状態と密接に関係することを説明できるバンドモデルを提案した。
    3.ガスクロやメチレンブルー分解の実験より、可視光応答型の光触媒効果を実証し、特に高い触媒効果は試料作製プロセス、価数共存状態及びバンドギャップに密接に関係することが分かった。
    サイトレイト法作製により均一で微細な光触媒用結晶粒を合成することが可能となり、固相反応で作成した試料に比べ2倍以上高い触媒特性を示すことが分かった。また、
    Prイオンは3価と4価の価数共存状態をとり、この共存状態が電子とホールの再結合を抑制する電荷分離状態と密接に関係することをバンドモデルにより解明した。
    Ba2PrBiO6母物質のBiサイトを元素置換し,母物質の組成を制御した磁場配向薄膜試料を作製し,構造評価,磁気特性,電子状態、光学特性及び光触媒特性の評価を行う。
