    高齢社会を迎えた我が国においては、高性能な生体材料の開発に大きな期待が寄せられている。そのためには、生体材料特性に関わる現象を原子・分子レベルで理解し、生体材料を設計することが望ましい。しかしそのような取り組みはほとんど行われてことなった。本研究では、有機分子を取り込んだリン酸カルシウムの構造と機能を、高度な計算科学を駆使して解明する。従来の材料開発手法とは異なる、生体材料研究における大きな変革のきっかけとしたい。

    人工骨や人工歯根のような生体代替材料開発において、リン酸カルシウム結晶と有機材料との複合化による材料機能発現が目指されている。そこでは、リン酸カルシウム結晶と有機分子が形成する界面の安定性やその起源となる界面相互作用様式が、重要な材料設計指針となる。しかしこれに関する電子・原子レベルからの知見はほとんどない。そこで本研究では、有機分子で修飾したリン酸八カルシウム結晶に着目し、第一原理計算により熱力学的安定性や異なる有機分子に対する選択性について解明することを目的とする。この成果を、リン酸カルシウムと有機分子の複合化に関する基礎学理構築への契機としたい。

    (1)OCPスーパーセルの構築:本研究では、OCP結晶をベースとしたスーパーセルを用いた。水和層にはHPO42-イオンが存在するため、これを置換した構造を検討した。ジカルボン酸としては、コハク酸(-OOC(CH2)2COO-)を主たる対象とし、スーパーセルの大きさの見積もりや、計算精度を調査した。さらに機械学習的手法も併用し、最安定構造の探索を試みた。ジカルボン酸導入後の結晶格子長さ等、既往の実験データとの比較検討から、計算結果の妥当性を確認することができた。
    (2)第一原理熱力学計算による有機分子修飾の熱力学的安定性評価
    上述の最安定構造とコハク酸導入前のOCPスーパーセルの全エネルギーを用いて、コハク酸修飾OCP結晶の熱力学的安定性を調べた。この際必要となる、構成イオン成分の化学ポテンシャル算出方法を確立することができた。
    本年度は、ジカルボン酸分子としてコハク酸分子を主たる対象とし、各種第一原理計算条件の検証を行った。OCP結晶のような複雑な結晶構造に対する計算条件を決めることができたと考えている。また、熱力学的安定性の評価にあたり、有機分子の化学ポテンシャルを如何に算出するかが焦点であったが、陰溶媒モデルなどを用いることで、分子種や分子形状に関係なく算出が可能であることが判明した。コハク酸のみならず、他のジカルボン酸への本手法の適用性も確認できたと考えている。
    引き続き、コハク酸含有OCP結晶の最安定構造の決定に取り組み、既往の実験データとの比較検討から、計算結果の妥当性を検証する。また、他のジカルボン酸分子の検討も試みる。

    半導体やセラミックスに用いられる無機結晶は、強固な化学結合性故に、室温で強度は高いが脆い性質をもつとされてきた。しかし近年の硫化亜鉛(ZnS)結晶に関する研究により、周囲の光環境が結晶の機械的性質に大きな影響を与えていることが判明した。しかし、同現象がどのような結晶で発現するのかについては、未だ明らかになっていない。本研究では、ZnSと同じ閃亜鉛鉱構造を持つ化合物半導体結晶を対象とし、光硬化現象のメカニズムと重要因子を明らかにする。
    閃亜鉛型結晶構造を有する硫化亜鉛(ZnS)単結晶は、通常の白色光下では数%の塑性歪みを示したのち急激な破壊を示す(光硬化現象)のに対し、暗室下では10倍以上の塑性歪みを示す。この成果により、従来から脆いと考えられてきた無機結晶であっても、光環境を変えることで、機械的性質を大きく制御できる可能性が広がったといえる。しかし、ZnSの光硬化現象の起源である転位量子構造はZnSに特有なものなのか、他のII-VI族、III-V族化合物半導体では起こりうるのか、については解明されていない。そこで本年度においては、閃亜鉛鉱構造を有するII-VI族およびIII-V族半導体結晶について、第一原理計算による転位電子状態解析と実験検証のための基礎的検討を行った。第一原理計算モデルの検討では、転位コア近傍の原子配列や転位生成エネルギーのスーパーセルサイズ依存性を調べて、計算精度を損なわない最小のスーパーセルサイズを見積もった。光硬化メカニズムの解明に向けた基礎的検討として、転位コアの局所状態密度や局所バンドギャップの結果に基づいて、光照射時に励起される電子・ホールと転位コアとの相互作用について検討した。その結果、らせん転位はバルクと同様な電子構造であるのに対し、刃状成分が増加するにつれて、バンドギャップが低下する傾向を明らかにした。さらに実験検証のための基礎的検討として、試料に対する光照射角度や照射光強度について検討し、最適な実験条件を決定した。
    これまでの研究により、ZnS結晶が示す光硬化現象の重要因子は、すべり転位コアにおける局在した量子構造であることが報告されている。同様な現象が他の化合物半導体結晶でも起こりうるのかを調べるため、本年度では、以下の項目について検討を進めた。
    (1) 第一原理計算モデルの基礎検討:3次元周期境界条件下で計算を行うため、転位同士の弾性相互作用がキャンセルされる四重極子配置を用いた。らせん転位や刃状成分を含む混合転位など、異なる転位構造について検討した。転位コア近傍の原子配列や転位生成エネルギーのスーパーセルサイズ依存性を調べて、計算精度を損なわない最小のスーパーセルサイズを見積もった。
    (2) 光硬化メカニズムの検討:第一原理計算で得られる転位コアの局所的電子状態は、光励起前の基底状態のそれに相当する。転位コアの局所状態密度や局所バンドギャップの結果に基づいて、光照射時に励起される電子・ホールと転位コアとの相互作用について検討した。その結果、らせん転位はバルクと同様な電子構造であるのに対し、刃状成分が増加するにつれて、バンドギャップが低下する傾向を明らかにした。
    (3) 実験検証:高純度単結晶を用いて、光環境制御下での室温圧縮試験を行い基礎的実験条件の検討を行った。試料に対する光照射角度や照射光強度について検討し、最適な実験条件を決定した。
    次年度は、計算・実験をさらに連携させて、光硬化現象の有無とそれに対する転位の役割の解明に取り組む。とくに、II-VI族半導体であるZnTeとIII-V族半導体のGaPとの間に差異が見られるかどうかに着目して研究を実施する。

    材料中の結晶欠陥はバルクと異なる原子配列に基づき特異な量子場を形成する。こうした量子場は、材料の各種特性に大きく影響するとともに、多量の希少元素を要することなく新規な機能を発現させるため、その系統的理解が重要な研究課題となっている。そこで本計画研究では、代表的な結晶欠陥である「転位」を主対象として、転位の機能発現の源となる量子場を「転位機能コア」と位置づけ、それと材料機能の相関を解明することで、「機能コアのモデリング」を達成する。
    転位は、主として構造材料分野での基礎研究において重要な役割を果たしてきた結晶欠陥である。転位を起源とした機能発現メカニズムに関しては未だ十分に理解されておらず、結果的に転位を新規機能材料創製に利用可能な状態に至っていない。本研究では、結晶欠陥の1つである「転位」の特異な原子配列および電子状態による機能発現に焦点を当て、転位局所の機能発現量子場を「転位機能コア」と位置付け、その量子場と機能の相関をモデリングおよび検証することで、転位機能コアの機能発現学理を構築しようとしている。
    令和3年度では、塑性変形による転位導入ならびに双結晶実験により周期的な転位の創製を行った。さらには、それらにおける電気伝導、熱伝導、光物性の評価を行った。実験結果の1つとして、塑性変形により転位を導入することで結晶のマクロな熱伝導特性が変化することが確認できた。これは転位自身が熱伝導に大きく影響することを示している。
    また、対象を3つのモデル材料に広げ、完全転位が熱伝導度に与える影響の定量評価並びに解析を行った。特に転位コア近傍の結合歪が周囲の原子振動状態および熱伝導度を変化させるメカニズム解明を行った。その結果、結晶構造に依存してこれら3つ材料では転位コア近傍の結合歪形成の様態が大きく変化し、熱伝導度に与える影響が変化した。またフォノン分散関係に依存し、転位導入後に主として熱伝導を担う結合が変化することを明らかにした。これら3つの代表的モデルで得られた理解を基に、転位による精緻な熱伝導制御へ新たな道を拓いた。
    これまでの酸化マグネシウムおよびチタン酸ストロンチウムに加えて、新たに酸化チタンや酸化亜鉛等の酸化物結晶の転位も対象にして、転位コアの電子・原子構造の熱力学的安定構造ならびに転位の挙動に関係する一般化積層欠陥エネルギーの検討を行った。また、これらの理論解析に合わせて、新たに酸化チタンや酸化亜鉛の双結晶作製ならびに、それらの電子顕微鏡観察を行った。概ね想定された転位コア構造が実際に形成されており、これらの材料で作製済の転位に対して、局所の電子物性評価を行った。一部の試料に対しては、局所熱伝導測定の予備的評価も開始した。また、塑性変形を行った結晶に対するマクロな熱伝導特性評価からは、転位が熱伝導特性に影響することが確認できた。
    熱伝導度に関する理論計算ならびに数値解析により、転位コアが周囲のフォノン状態に与える影響は従来の転位コア近傍の弾性論に基づく予測とは異なり、転位コア近傍の結合歪、それに基づく原子振動の異方性の顕在化などを経て、大きく遠方までフォノン散乱の影響が生じ、結果として1つの転位が材料の熱伝導へ与える影響は既存理論に基づくものより大きいことが明らかにした。また結晶構造すなわち原子の配位環境により転位コア近傍で形成される結合歪は大きく変わることが明らかにできるなど、本来の目的である材料への応用の為の理解の普遍化に向け計画通りあるいはそれ以上に進捗している状況である。
    これまでの研究から、転位コア領域において、特異な電子物性・熱特性・発光特性を生じさせることが系統的に確認されつつある。今後も転位機能コアの特異な物性を理解すべく、実験と計算を融合して研究を進めていく。
    実験面では、これまでも行っている双結晶法による転位導入に加えて、塑性変形により転位を導入した結晶を元に、各種物性を計測していく。とりわけ、電子物性と熱伝導特性を評価の中心とするが、それ以外の物性とも相互作用しているため、広い視点で検討する。電子物性測定においては従来からのDC測定に加えて、AC測定も測定法として追加する。また、光環境制御下における各種物性の測定も開始する。
    計算解析面では、多彩な化合物と結晶構造を共有するモデル材料群に対して、さらに各結晶構造および化学結合に詳細に踏み込んだ熱伝導機構の解明を目指し、熱伝導に支配的な原子間結合と、そうではないが他物性に重要な原子間結合、などに分類し、複数の機能コア発現をも念頭に置き、得られた多様な知見の普遍化を目指す。同時に高対称性結晶構造を有する酸化マグネシウムに関し、剛体の歪テンソルの考え方を参考に、さらに深い熱伝導メカニズム解析を進める。

    本領域研究では、世界最高水準の電子状態計算、モデル実験、ナノ計測を三本柱とし、機能材料、エネルギー材料、構造材料分野で高い研究業績を上げている研究者らと一体になって、機能コアの概念に立脚した新しい材料科学の学理を構築する。総括班ではこの領域の目的を達成するため、1)研究領域の全体的な研究方針策定、2)連携研究および設備有効利用の促進、3)若手相互派遣による人材育成・国際活動支援、4)公開シンポジウム等の成果公表活動、5)アウトリーチ活動、を行う。さらに、連携研究が最大限の効果を上げるよう、計算解析センター、ナノ計測センター、モデル試料センターを設置し、領域内研究を支援する。

    1) 2021年9月28日および2022年3月30日に総括班会議を開催し、本領域の研究進捗状況について議論した。また、今後の領域運営や計画班運営について、各計画班研究代表者に助言・指導を与えた。さらに、2021年9月28日に領域全体会議をオンライン開催し、領域内研究者との意見交換を通じて今後の研究連携を検討した。2)連携研究および設備有効利用の促進のため設置している、計算解析センター、ナノ計測センター、モデル試料センターについて運営状況の確認や今後の方針策定を行った。3)若手育成支援としてオンラインでの若手の会(若手コラボツアー)を計3回実施した。4)成果公表活動として、2022年3月30日に2021年度公開シンポジウムをオンライン開催した。また国内学会での公募シンポジウムを1件、国際会議でのシンポジウムを1件主催し、機能コアのコンセプトを国内外に広く公表・周知した。5)アウトリーチ活動として、名古屋大学で開催された「テクノフェア名大」で本領域のオンラインブース展示を行い、一般も含む参加者に広く本領域のコンセプトを周知した。またSNS等を活用した本領域の情報発信にも取り組んだ。
    本年度においては、以下のことを実施した。
    1) 研究領域の全体的な研究方針の策定:総括班会議を2回開催した。本領域研究がすでに学術的に先導している部分、もしくは今後さらに強化・補充していくべき部分を明らかにし、総括班研究分担者でもある各計画研究班代表者に助言・指導を与えた。また、領域全体会議をオンライン開催した。今回は領域内の若手研究者が、最近の研究成果と今後の展望に関する話題提供を行い、領域内研究者との活発な質疑・意見交換により、今後の研究連携の可能性を検討した。2) 連携研究および設備有効利用の促進:本領域研究の3つの核心的技術要素である、計算解析センター、ナノ計測センター、モデル試料センターを設置し、体制作りおよび運営方針策定を行った。3) 若手相互派遣による人材育成・国際活動支援:若手育成のための活動として、学生や若手研究者が主催するオンラインでの研究会(若手の会)を計3回実施した。本年度は、東京大学、北海道大学、東京工業大学が世話役を務めた。4) 公開シンポジウム等の成果公表活動:2022年3月30日に2021年度公開シンポジウムを開催し、今年度の研究成果を報告するとともに、領域メンバーとともに今後の研究計画について討論・意見交換した。さらに、2021年9月14日~17日に日本金属学会において公募シンポジウムを主催した。2021年12月16日に国際会議PACRIM14においてもシンポジウムを主催し、国際的な情報発信にも努めた。5) アウトリーチ活動:2021年10月16日に名古屋大学で開催された「テクノフェア名大」で本領域のオンラインブース展示を行い、一般も含む参加者に広く本領域のコンセプトを周知した。また、本領域のYouTubeチャンネルおよびTwitterを開設し、広く情報発信も行った。
    以上の活動により、本領域の運営や若手育成支援、広報活動に関し、おおむね順調に進展しているといえる。
    次年度も継続して、領域内運営を円滑に進めるべく総括班活動を行う。一方で、新型コロナウイルス感染拡大の影響があるため、総括班会議を含めた活動をオンラインで実施する等、可能な限り領域運営や連携研究が円滑に進むように配慮する。現在計画中の総括班関連活動・イベントは、以下の通りである。

    In this study, first-principles calculations were performed to investigate stable atomic structures and charged states of surfaces of hydroxyapatite (HAP). Here the implicit solvation model was employed to consider effect of aqueous solutions in contact with HAP surfaces. It was found that the surface potentials and their related isoelectric pH values obtained here can successfully represent the surface charge states of HAP as experimentally reported.

    In this study, first-principles calculations were performed for glide dislocations in ZnS and ZnTe, in order to reveal a physical origin of experimentally observed light-dependent plasticity. It was experimentally reported that glide dislocations in ZnS are dissociated into two partial dislocations with stacking faults in between. The present calculations revealed that glide partial dislocations in ZnS tend to have unreconstructed core structures in their ground state. However, atomic structures of the glide dislocations can be reconstructed in the presence of carriers. Since atomic reconstruction of dislocation cores leads to decreased dislocation mobilities, the glide dislocations in ZnS can be strongly restricted in their motion when ZnS is exposed to external visible lights. It was also found that ZnTe also exhibits the similar results.

    Interfaces between aqueous solution and hydroxyapatite were investigated based on first principles calculations. Charge states of HAP surfaces in contact with aqueous solution were evaluated, and it was then found that an (1010) surface, as an example, favors the Ca rich composition more than the stoichiometric and P rich compositions and is positively charged. When Mg2+ and Zn2+ substitutions for Ca2+ were considered, these ions were energetically favorably located around the interface, and yet the most stable substitutional sites were different between Mg2+ and Zn2+.

    In this study, we have evolved advanced atomic-resolution S/TEM into “the direct observation method for dynamics of atoms and ions”. The newly developed fast electron beam scanning/detecting systems and environmental control holders enabled us to reveal atomic-scale materials phenomena unknown so far, such as dislocation behavior, crack propagation, atomic diffusion, and grain boundary migration. These results led the elucidation of the correlation between nanostructures and functional properties. The primary achievement of the present project is to establish the nanostructure design methods and the construction of the fundamental principles for materials development.

    We investigated electronic and atomic structures of materials interfaces by using first principles calculations and scanning probe microscopes. As a typical example, we revealed detailed electronic and atomic structures of noble metal atoms and clusters on TiO2 surfaces. We also developed an atomic force microscope implementing a pulsed laser deposition technique, which made nanometer scale analyses on metal oxide surfaces efficiently. Moreover, we extended our studies to functional ceramics interfaces and solid state ionics materials.
