    3次元空間にひろがる非圧縮粘性流体の中に運動する剛体があるとし、剛体の運動は並進速度と回転角速度で表されるが、いずれも時間によって変動するという最も一般な場合に主流の安定性を考察するとき、その線型化方程式の初期値問題の解の長時間挙動についての詳細な解析が決定的な役割を果たす。しかし、線型化方程式は非自励系であるために、自励系に対して行われるスペクトル解析では立ち行かない。この問題に対して、本研究では真に新しい方法を提示し、線型化作用素の生成する2径数発展作用素の減衰評価を証明した。得られた成果はすでに知られていた1径数半群のあらゆる場合をすべて包括する最良減衰度を与えており、この方面での最終的な結果である。この成果により、Navier-Stokes方程式の安定性理論の枠組みは一段拡がった。また、さまざまな状況のもとでFinnのstarting問題を議論できる。一例として、剛体が流体中をスピンはせずに振動し、時間周期的な並進速度の一周期での平均がゼロであるときに、対応する時間周期解のattainability(Finnのstarting問題の肯定的解決)を示した。また、上記の発展作用素の減衰評価の証明は、特に自励系に対する半群の場合にも新しい証明方法を与え、剛体のスピンがないときはOseen半群の減衰評価の短い別証明として注目される。最後に、剛体に固定した座標系で見て定常的なself-propelled運動(剛体にかかる力とトルクがゼロ)の最適制御問題を考察した。境界上での制御関数として2種の属性のいずれかを指定し、小さく与えたself-propelled運動を達成する制御関数を豊富に見出す方法を与え、それを許容集合として剛体にはたらく抵抗を最小にする最適制御の存在を示し、さらに最適制御であるための必要条件を変分不等式によって与えた。
    3次元流体中の剛体の並進速度と回転角速度が時間に依存して変動する場合の非自励系の長時間挙動は、時間周期解に代表される主流の安定性やFinnのstarting問題と併せて、重要な未解決問題として残っていた。特に剛体の回転も伴う場合には、主流が定常解であっても、starting問題に答えるには発展作用素の時間減衰評価が本質的に必要である。さらに、その解析方法においてはエネルギ一関係式を従来になかった活用のしかたを提示した点が特に新しく、流体と剛体が相互作用する問題の線型化解析にも示唆を与えるものである。その相互作用問題のうちでは、流体から剛体にかかる力とトルクがゼロとなる作用のもと、境界上で剛体自身が生成した機構によって推進するself-propelled運動が特に興味深い。剛体に固定した座標系で見て定常的なself-propelled運動を達成するような機構の発見は、数学的には制御問題として定式化される。これまでの研究では制御関数の存在が知られていただけであったので、最適制御問題を議論することじたいができなかった。本研究ではまず、制御方法(制御関数の属性)をひとつ定めるとき、そのような制御関数を十分多く見出した。そのうちで剛体にかかる抵抗を最小化するという意味での最適制御の存在を示したことは、本研究題目でも述べられている主目的を一つ果たしたこととなる。そのうえで、伝統的なLagrangeの精神に沿いながら、しかし既存の一般論に頼ることなく最適制御の必要条件を導いたそのやりかたは、同種の最適制御問題への展望も与えるものである。必要条件としての変分不等式には最適制御に付随したある種の共役問題の解が含まれるので、その共役問題のwell-posednessを示すことが鍵である。
    本研究で最も重要な主題は、流体と剛体の相互作用の初期値問題の解の長時間挙動である。小さい初期値に対して、時間大域解の存在が自乗可積分空間の枠組みで知られているが、それは有限時間爆発を防ぐような解のアプリオリ評価によるもので、解の長時間挙動には何も答えていない。この主題についてのTucsnakのグル一プによる最近のプレプリントでは、流体と剛体両者の運動方程式を一体でとらえるfluid-structure半群を考察し(彼らはmonolythic approachという)、その減衰評価を応用してある場合に時間大域解の長時間挙動を示している。部分的成果にとどまっている理由は、回転運動がもたらす重要な項がfluid-structure半群からの摂動として扱えず、その項が現われないように剛体を球体に限ったためである。本研究でここまで得られた成果はこの困難に正面から取り組み、上記の項を正統的に扱ったものであり、剛体の形状が何であっても、与えられた並進速度と回転角速度が時間変数に関して有界かつヘルダ一連続である限り、上記の項を伴う線型化作用素の生成する発展作用素の時間減衰評価を証明した。その結果それ自体でなくともその論証における考え方は、Tucsnakらによる最新の成果をもってしても今なお乗りこえられていない困難の克服の方法を示唆している。その先には、本研究によって得られた剛体のself-propelled運動と抵抗最小化を達成する最適制御解の安定性の問題があるが、そのself-propelled運動によって流れの空間無限遠での減衰度が良いことが漸近展開を通して説明できるので、線型主要部から引き出される長時間挙動が系全体を支配していると期待している。

    I analyzed a problem arising from fluid-structure interaction and some related issues, where the fluid is incompressible as well as viscous, while the structure is assumed to be a rigid body. In 3D case the boundary controllability of a self-propelled motion of a body, whose motion is prescribed but not too large, was proved. Toward analysis of this solution, I deduced a large time behavior of the evolution operator generated by a linearized system around time-dependent rigid motions. A new result on the starting problem in 3D proposed by Finn was also provided. In 2D case an asymptotic representation of steady flows at spatial infinity around a rotating body was discovered. I also deduced a temporal decay estimate of the Oseen semigroup past a translating body in 2D.
