Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (HFCV) adopters need to continue their vehicle ownership in the subsequent years to achieve the HFCV-related targets set by the Japanese government. In this study, we explored the discontinuance rate of HFCV ownership through a questionnaire survey conducted among HFCV adopters in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, who were wanting to continue or discontinue their ownership. Results showed that the discontinuance rate was remarkably high. Approximately 50% of the private HFCV adopters, who purchased their vehicles between 2014 and 2020, wished to discontinue their HFCV ownership owing to factors such as driving range, vehicle performance, future viability, fuel tank safety, and density of stations. Furthermore, we showed that the discontinuance trend was correlated with the dissatisfaction of HFCV adopters with the driving range and future viability. As a result, they foresee a bleak future owing to the sparse refueling stations network and higher purchase price compared to other vehicle powertrains such as electric and hybrid vehicles. Therefore, to reduce the discontinuance rate and keep HFCVs in the market, Japanese stakeholders must address the concern of HFCV owners.

<p>Recently trials to restructure public transport network by utilizing low speed autonomous vehicles are made in many areas in Japan. To make these vehicles take a role as a last mile mobility effectively, it is necessary to estimate the demand in hundreds of meters increments. In this research, by combining two data, we obtained a multi-modal origin-destination matrix in 250m unit in Kouzouji-newtown. The two data are household travel survey data and location information data collected through cell phones. Also, we formulated a demand model by using data obtained by Stated Preferences research and estimated the demand of the new transportation mode utilizing low speed autonomous vehicles. Through this research, by combining location information data with travel survey data, we established a method to estimate demand in higher resolution, which was not able to achieve by using only travel survey data. Additionally, estimations for introducing new transportation modes will be possible by the method suggested.</p>

In this study, the risk factors of bicycle accidents at intersections are analyzed, considering intersections geometric features and bicycle road in the central business district area of Nagoya-city, Japan, between the years 2006 and 2015. From the basic descriptive statistics, bicycle accidents frequently occurred at intersections: 79% in Nagoya and 77% in the study area. To evaluate bicycle road effects, the data was divided into three time periods, before and after the bicycle roads were introduced in 2008 and 2011. The negative binomial count model is used to identify the significant explanatory variables on bicycle accident occurrences at intersections. From the estimated results, wider intersections, intersections with a stop sign on all arms, and intersections that have pedestrian signals on some of the arms have a high risk of bicycle accident occurrences. Comparatively, intersections with pedestrian signals at each of the arms and intersections with stop signs on some arms with traffic signals on the other arms display to have less bicycle accident occurrences. Concerning bicycle road effects, the nearest intersections from the Fushimi street bicycle road, have significantly less bicycle accident occurrences, whereas those nearest from the Sakura street bicycle road have higher occurrences. Finally, an intersection design that contributes to the prevention of bicycle accidents was proposed.

<p>The aim of the present study was to investigate the basic cross-cultural differences in the aberrant driving behaviors of Japanese, Chinese, and Vietnamese drivers. Overall, the Vietnamese drivers reported more instances of all four types of aberrant behaviors on the road as compared to the drivers from the other two countries. On the contrary, the fewest aggressive violations were reported by the Japanese drivers. An analysis of variance was also performed; the results indicated significant differences in the aberrant driving behaviors of drivers from the three countries. The test statistics indicated there are significant differences between the drivers from the three countries in terms of the Driver Behavior Questionnaire (DBQ) items. Finally, the results of a confirmatory factor analysis revealed that the four-factor model structure of the shorter version of the DBQ used in this study was valid for Chinese drivers but only partially valid for Vietnamese and Japanese drivers.</p>

<p>This paper investigates attitude of respondents towards a new transportation alternative namely cooperative ride system (CRS) for elderly people using 1052 samples collected in Asuke, Japan. A multinomial logit (MNL), nested logit (NL) and NL with consideration of covariance heterogeneity (COVNL) across decision makers were estimated. Additionally, three COVNL models with different transformation functions (probit, logit and C log-log) were tested for comparison. The results indicate that by incorporating the covariance heterogeneity, the COVNL model results in dramatic improvements in terms of better fitting to the data and behaviorally representing the choices of decision makers. Moreover, among three transformation functions, the C log-log function is the best while the probit function is the worst ones for data fitting. Evidence from model estimation results shows that the potential volunteer drivers for the CRS are the people living in a single household, currently using cars and having more frequencies of driving and traveling. Most importantly, the elderly people, whom the CRS is proposing for, are found to significantly participate as the riders. Furthermore, females, students and the people earning low annual income possibly join as the riders. Interestingly, the people who gained experiences of being the volunteer drivers or riders have higher willingness to take part in the CRS.</p>

<p>A large body of evidence supports that driving stress both directly and indirectly leads to traffic accidents. Therefore, driving stress is an important issue to reduce traffic accidents. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of roadway conditions and land-use on driving stress among professional drivers and to give some suggestions to reduce the driving stress. Multiple indicators multiple causes (MIMIC) model was used to empirically investigate which variables of the roadway condition and land-use affected the driving stress among drivers in Yangon, Myanmar. Standard deviation of normal to normal RR intervals (SDNN), Square root of the mean squared differences between successive RR intervals (RMSSD), Percentage value of consecutive RR intervals that differ more than 50 ms (pNN50), Baseline width of the RR interval histogram (TINN), Balance between the sympathetic nervous system activity and the parasympathetic nervous system activity (fast Fourier transform) (LF/HF (FFT)) and Balance between the sympathetic nervous system activity and the parasympathetic nervous system activity (Autoregressive) (LF/HF (AR)) are used as driving stress indicator. The results suggest that certain roadway conditions reduce driving stress. Specifically, using roundabouts and traffic lights at intersections to control traffic and increasing the number of lanes are the effective ways to reduce driving stress. However, roundabouts rather than traffic lights are more efficient. Conversely, industrial zones are associated with an increase in driving stress.</p>

We analyzed the impact of demographic variables, driving stresses in the real world, driving behaviors related to stress, and unsafe driving behaviors on accident involvement among professional drivers in Myanmar. The aim of the study is to investigate whether driving stress as well as demographic variables can be linked with driving behaviors and lead to traffic accidents. Structural equation modeling (SEM) is developed to represent the relationship, and Yuan-Bentler residual-based test statistics are used to validate the model structure, as the sample size is small. The results confirmed that driving stress as well as demographic variables affect driving behaviors and lead to traffic accidents.

Traffic accidents result in more than 1.2 million deaths worldwide per year, especially in developing countries. Therefore, road safety is a major issue in these countries. Many researchers found that traffic accidents occur mainly because of driving stress and driving behavior. There are few studies on driving stress in developing countries, particularly in Myanmar. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of roadway conditions on driving stress in Myanmar by using heart rate variability (HRV). The study used two polar watches V800, a heart rate sensor H7, and a video camera to collect data and carried out time-domain and frequency-domain analysis of HRV by using the Kubios HRV analysis software. The results showed that drivers experience different driving stresses depending on roadway conditions. In particular, highly crowded places and those requiring attention such as mixed roads, lane-changing points, jaywalking places, rough and bad pavements, traffic congestion areas, and flyover are the most stressful segments along the roadway for drivers.

This paper examines the influences of environmental consciousness and attitudes to transportation on electric vehicle purchase intentions. A multiple-indicators?multiple-causes model and a latent-class nested logit model with two segments were estimated using data obtained through a web-based questionnaire survey in the Chukyo Area of Japan. Results reveal that both environmental consciousness and attitudes to transportation significantly affect an individual's EV buying intentions. Specifically, for the segment of mostly auto-dependent householders, environmental consciousness has strong negative relationships with intention to buy an EV as a replacement. The results provide insight for the design of policies aiming at promoting the adoption of EVs.

This study aims to investigate factors that contribute to influencing high public approval of road pricing (RP) in Jakarta, Indonesia. We compare two questionnaire survey data collected in Jakarta and Nagoya. Covariance structure analysis and binary probit model are performed for each sample. It is found that Jakarta is less auto dependent than Nagoya but that congestion is recognized as a more serious problem in Jakarta than in Nagoya. Moreover, the result shows that RP is thought to be a more correct, accepted and fairer policy by people in Jakarta than in Nagoya although an effect of RP is considered less by people in Jakarta than in Nagoya. The result of the binary probit models tell us that less amount of charge leads more acceptance in both cities and that higher acceptance rate of others causes higher individual acceptability in Nagoya but it is not occurred in Jakarta.

This study analyzes usage of community cycle system (CCS) using data obtained a pilot program in Nagoya city. In this paper, lending frequency model involved potential demand for each station is constructed. As a result, it is shown that CCS induced new trips for shopping or sightseeing but were used instead of walk or public transportation. It can be said that CCS can contribute to the revitalization of the inner city but may reduce public transportation usage in area with sufficient service level of public transportation. Moreover, it is found that purpose of CCS usage and demand of CCS is different between weekday and weekend, and even in a day and that land use and city function around the stations strongly relate to the purpose of CCS usage.
