    イネの耐乾性を高める上では、側根と呼ばれる分枝根の発育を促すことが有効であるが、その分子機構の解明や育種利用を可能にする遺伝子座の同定は進んでいない。これに関して我々は、乾燥ストレスの有無による側根形態の違いがOUR1/OsbZIP1やOsWOX10転写因子によってもたらされることを見出した。そこで本研究では、これら転写因子の標的遺伝子の同定、発現・機能解析を行うことにより、乾燥下での根域拡大の可塑性をもたらす分子機構の解明を目指す。さらに、イネ科の畑作物に見られる冠根形成能の抑制戦略を同一個体にあわせて導入することにより、これまでにない優れた根系形態を有するイネ系統の作出に挑戦する。
