Near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy is a common means of non-invasively determining the concentrations of organic compounds in relatively transparent aqueous solutions. Rigorous determination for limit of detection (LOD) is of importance for the application use of NIR spectroscopy. The work reported herein determined the LOD with the analysis of potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP) in water with partial least square (PLS) calibration in the range of 6300±5800 cm-1 between the two strong absorption bands of water, in which the C-H overtone bands of KHP are located. A comparison of the LOD estimated when using various condition (path length, aperture and co-Added scan times) showed that the lowest LOD for KHP obtained with a fiber optic cable attachment equipped NIR spectrometer is approximately 150 ppm.

<p>Near infrared spectroscopy （NIRS） has been applied in some fields such as medicines, chemicals and ag ricultural products. In this report, NIRS was applied to paper sheets to analyze the contained pulp qualita tively and quantitatively. LBKP, NBKP, CTMP and others could be classified by principal component analysis （PCA） for NIR spectra. The blend ratio of LBKP, NBKP and CTMP in the both mixtures of LBKP and CTMP, and NBKP and CTMP could be determined respectively by partial least squares regression （PLSR）for NIR spectra within the coefficient of determination （R² value） of 0.98. Furthermore, the ratio of mixture of KP and another pulp on the paper could be determined somewhat correctly even if we do not know what kinds of pulp were contained. NIRS could also be used to estimate the drainability of LBKP; that is, the pre dicted value was very close to the measured value. NIRS was also applied to evaluate the degree of degrada tion of pulp. PCA for NIR spectra of LBKP has revealed the linear relationships between recycled times and score.</p><p>The NIR technique is faster than staining techniques, and does not require special training. If we could have tested a wider variety of samples, if we had more time, and if we could have optimized the analysis con dition, it would be possible to estimate more precisely.</p>

<p>近赤外分光法は食品や薬品などの多くの分野で実用化されている。製紙分野でも古くからオンライン水分計として多くの工場で利用されているが，水分計以外の用途について，まだ広くは利用されていない。</p><p>そこで本研究では，近赤外分光法を用いて木材パルプを中心に，紙に含まれるパルプ繊維を複合的に評価する手法の開発を目指すこととした。試験法として，①産地の異なる広葉樹漂白クラフトパルプ（LBKP）（計8種）と針葉樹漂白クラフトパルプ（NBKP）（計3種），ケミサーモメカニカルパルプ（CTMP）を始めとする様々な種類のパルプ繊維から作製した試料の繊維組成試験，②LBKPのろ水度評価，③LBKPのリサイクル回数の異なる試料のリサイクル回数評価試験を検討した。</p><p>①について，それぞれのパルプ繊維は主成分分析によりはっきりと分離でき，繊維の種類を判別することが可能であることが分かった。検討に用いたパルプ繊維のうち任意の2種を混合した紙の近赤外分光スペクトルをPLS回帰分析すると，含まれているパルプ繊維が分かっていない試料についても定量分析可能であることが分かった。②，③についても，近赤外分光法を適用すれば，今回検討に用いたLBKPに関して，評価可能であることが示された。</p><p>近赤外分光法による定性・定量分析は従来から行われている染色法と比較して，測定時間が短縮でき，経験を積まなくても非破壊で簡便に測定ができる。</p><p>今回，3つの項目をそれぞれ検討したが，これらの手法は解析に用いる水準や測定回数の増加，説明変数に用いる波数帯の最適化，異なる回帰手法の適用などにより，さらに精度が向上し，1度の測定でいくつかの項目が瞬時に評価可能となることも考えられる。より実用化が進めば，近赤外分光法が使用する原料を評価する有効な解析法の一つになりうると期待される。</p>
