    In this study, we have examined how the liver clock and the clocks of other organs are synchronized and regulated, and have examined the crosstalk between these organs. We have shown that insulin is a strong factor in synchronizing the liver clock. Free fatty acids and bile acids were found to be candidates for entrainment factors, as were insulin, for which differences in the phase of the rhythm were observed. The muscle clock was also found to be regulated by the timing of food intake and muscle mass. Misalignment of insulin entrainment caused abnormalities in liver and muscle homeostasis, and feeding timing was found to influence metabolic syndrome and locomotive syndrome via biological clock crosstalk between organs.

    In this study, the effects of vitamins E, K, and C on bone metabolism were examined using rats. Male Wistar and ODS rats were fed a diet with different contents of RRR-α-tocopherol, phylloquinone, and L-ascorbic acid for a certain period of time. Differences in vitamin E and K intake had little effect on markers of bone mineral density and bone metabolism in rats. On the other hand, bone density and bone metabolism markers fluctuated due to insufficient intake of vitamin C. Therefore, it was suggested that among these vitamins, vitamin C has the greatest effect on bone metabolism.

    Nutrition, exercise and sleep are the key to good health. From the perspective of the biological clock, these three elements are considered to be integrablely controlled, revealing the molecular basis for normalizing metabolism and linking it to health through synchronization of the inter-organ clock network. In this study, I investigated breakfast skipping as an irregular feeding timing that can occur especially in humans. Breakfast skipping just delay the first meal for a few hours after rest, but metabolic abnormalities have been shown to occur in many human studies. In a breakfast skipping animal model fed a high-fat diet, it was revealed that the rhythm of the liver clock and liver lipid metabolism was delayed for several hours, leading to weight gain.

    An attempt was made to synthesize an analogue of ceramide phosphoramidate molecular species obtained as an active constituent from a lipid fraction derived from freshwater clam (Corbicula fluminea). Although the synthesis of the ceramide moiety was successful, its phosphorylation reaction was difficult. Therefore, the reaction condition is continuously examined at present.
    We found that protein fraction of freshwater clam extract (FCE) reduced serum level of cholesterol in rats fed a high cholesterol diet. Since the protein fraction of FCE enhanced catabolism of cholesterol as soy protein isolate did, both protein fraction of FCE and soy protein isolate changed cholesterol metabolism by a similar mechanism. In order to investigate the effect of other bivalves on lipid metabolism, we next focused on oyster.
