    5族金属ベースの水素分離膜は高温で長時間の運転時において,水素透過能や耐久性の低下への懸念がある。また研究代表者らは近年,延性-脆性遷移固溶水素濃度(DBTC)が存在する一方で,巨大ひずみ付与加工により水素透過能は飛躍的に向上し,DBTCも高水素濃度側に移動することを発見した。
    本研究では「DBTCの発現機構」を解明し,高圧アロトロピー組織制御によって結晶粒を超微細化したバナジウム等の5族金属の水素透過能と耐久性向上に有効な結晶粒界(GB)構造を見出して,マリアージュ(調和による効果)によって化合物相を形成しない温和な運転条件下で作動可能な革新的GB構造を有する水素分離膜の創製を目指している。
    本研究はバナジウムなど5族金属のDBTCの発現メカニズムを解明するとともに,水素透過能と耐久性向上に有効な結晶および粒界(GB)構造を見出して,マリアージュ(調和効果)によって温和な運転条件下で作動可能な膜の微細組織・構造を得ることである。当該年度の実績は以下の通りである。
    水素の空間配置の解析については,J-PARC/MLFの中性子高強度全散乱装置(NOVA)の試料ホルダーの耐熱・耐水素圧力性の改善をさらに進め,300℃で400kPa以上の耐熱・耐圧を担保した加熱ホルダーが完成し,機器安全審査を受審して実験に可能な状態となった。しかしながら,新型コロナウイルス感染予防の対応にて出張制限があり,加えてJ-PARC/MLFの運転再開の延期も重なり,中性子散乱測定は翌年度実施となった。一方で評価対象試料で比較材のタンタルについては熱処理条件を再検討し,加工歪や欠陥の影響を低減した上で,水素圧力-水素濃度-温度(PCT)測定装置を用いた水素化速度試験を実施し,平衡水素圧力条件も見出した。
    水素ガス透過の可視化と結晶粒組織解析については,NIMSで先ず純バナジウム板の構造解析を行った。EBSD解析の結果,1μm以下の微結晶であることから水素透過測定に適した試料とするための熱処理を行い,結晶粒サイズを試料厚(100μm)以上とした。薄板が破壊されない圧力領域で水素透過測定を行ったところ,これまで計測の最適化を行ってきたステンレス鋼と比べて水素の拡散が速い反面,透過量は少なく,計測パラメータの再調整が必要であることが分かった。
    バナジウムへの巨大ひずみ付与では200nm~500nmの結晶粒サイズへの微細化が可能なこと,これら試料の水素透過係数がバージン材に比べて2.2~3.3倍の高い値を示すことを明らかにした。また,水素溶解度は焼鈍し試料と大きな差異が無いことをPCT測定で確認した。
    新型コロナウイルス感染拡大防止に関する所属研究機関の対応について,国内移動制限が発出され,NIMSのオペランド水素顕微鏡用いた可視化実験については出張が出来ず,代表者の直接的な観察実験は叶わなかった。しかし研究協力者による予備観察実験が遂行でき,観察プロセスは年度内にて確立されたため,この判断とした。中性子散乱測定ではメンテナンス期間が延長され,割り当てられたビームタイム期間でのJ-PARC/MLFへの出張による中性子散乱測定にも支障が出たが,次年度当初に再度ビームタイムが割り当てられており,大きな支障は無いと考える。
    このように当初予定していた当該年度の研究計画において,全体的には僅かに遅れ気味ではあるが,総合的には目標達成に向けて努力しており概ね順調に遂行出来ている。その具体的根拠は,下記の通りである。
    ①評価対象試料のバナジウムと比較材のタンタルについては,熱処理条件を再検討し,加工歪や欠陥の影響を低減した上で,水素圧力-水素濃度-温度(PCT)測定装置を用いた水素化速度試験を実施し,平衡水素圧力条件も見出した。②水素ガス透過の可視化と結晶粒組織解析については,NIMSで先ず純バナジウム板の構造解析を行った。EBSD解析を行ったところ,1μm以下の微結晶であったため,水素透過測定に適した試料とするための熱処理を行い,結晶粒サイズを試料厚(100μm)以上とした。薄板が破壊されない圧力領域で水素透過測定を行ったところ,計測の最適化を行ってきたステンレス鋼と比べて拡散が速い反面,透過量が少なく,計測パラメータの再調整が必要であることが分かった。
    コロナ禍の当該年度ではあったが,総合的には事業期間全体(3年間)の2/3を経過した段階で,研究実施計画(全体)に対して,その進捗率が総合的に60%程度であると考えているため,上記の進捗状況(達成度)の区分とした。
    本研究課題は当初の計画通り研究代表者が主体的かつ総括して遂行することにしているが,最終年度についても引き続き,研究分担者の名古屋大学湯川助教,鈴鹿高専南部教授および高エネルギー加速器研究機構池田特別准教授の協力を得て共同で実施することになっており,各研究機関の特徴や課題解決に向けた得意分野をそれぞれの研究者が発揮することで,この研究をさらに進め最終到達目標に向かって進めていく予定である。
    代表者は分担者,協力者らと常に相互訪問による情報交換を行っており,本研究に関しても連絡調整は十分に行えている状況であるので,これを今後も有機的に活用したい。協力者の豊橋技術科学大学の戸高教授は巨大ひずみ加工を各種金属材料に施してその特異な
    現象を発見していることに加えて,学術的裏付けをも検討するこの分野の第一人者であり,引き続き超微細粒組織制御に関する多方面からの協力を頂くことの了解を得ている。巨大ひずみ加工についてはユニークなひずみ付与方法を有する材料加工を得意とする企業の協力も得られることになっている。また,物質・材料研究機構の板倉リーダーはオペランド水素顕微鏡による薄膜透過水素の可視化についての第一人者であるが,本研究課題の遂行に向けての連携拠点推進制度を活用した研究プロジェクトを令和3年度にも計画して頂いた。このように,本研究課題の目標達成に向けて,当該年度もあらゆる手段を講じて研究を進める。

    The purpose of this study was to clarify the potential of B2-type intermetallic compounds as low-temperature-operated hydrogen permeable membranes, and to obtain guidelines for the development of low-temperature-operated hydrogen permeable alloys based on the obtained knowledge.
    We investigated the effect of excess Cu on the hydrogen permeability of PdCu alloys and found an alloy that exhibits high hydrogen permeability at low temperatures around 200°C. Although excess Cu affects hydrogen dissolution and diffusion, the hydrogen permeability is greatly reduced at room temperature due to hydrogen trapping effects apart from the excess Cu atoms.

    This study aims to elucidate the DBTC mechanism and to find microstructures and grain boundary structures that are effective in improving hydrogen permeability and durability. Using NOVA installed in J-PARC / MLF, the relationship with DBTC will be examined regarding the spatial arrangement of hydrogen in vanadium and tantalum. In addition, visualization of hydrogen that has permeated the membrane will be examined in order to understand the microstructural state that contributes to the improvement of the hydrogen permeation flux.
    It is shown that the sensitivity of the grain size and grain boundary area to the hydrogen permeability is not large in the microstructure of bcc-V by the giant strain application method. The crystal structure is composed of high-density dislocations, low-angle dislocation grain boundaries, general grain boundaries, and special grain boundaries, which act in a complex manner to affect hydrogen diffusion.

    It is well known that local strains are introduced into the crystal lattice around a solute atom, M, due to the size mismatch between solute and solvent atoms in any alloy. In this study, local lattice strains are calculated for the first time in both binary Ti and Fe alloys,using the pseudopotential method.
    The calculated local lattice strains are found to vary largely with M and the crystal structures. Also, there is a certain correlation between the martensite start temperature (Ms) and the local lattice strains introduced around M. Such local lattice strains work to suppress the onset of the martensitic transformation in both Ti and Fe alloys.

    Pd触媒を表面に被覆したV系合金膜は水素分離膜として優れた機能を発揮するが、運転中に分離性能が徐々に低下し、やがては機能喪失するという深刻な問題を抱えている。本研究では表面Pd触媒とV基材との界面に形成されるプロチウム拡散の障壁を機能喪失の主要因として捉え、V基材の結晶方位に依存して変化するプロチウム障壁の成長メカニズムを解明し、結晶方位制御に基づいた高耐久性Fe添加V合金膜の設計へと展開する。高圧ねじり(HPT)加工が創り出すナノ結晶組織を敢えて再結晶化させる逆転の発想により、圧延加工では製造不可能な優先方位(110)集合組織に配向させる新規組織制御技術を創出し、V系合金膜の長寿命化を図る。

    An atomization energy approach is investigated to treat the nature of the chemical bond between atoms in the rare earth metal compounds including oxides and borides. The atomization energy is the energy gain or loss of each constituent element by forming the compound. On the basis of the atomization energy concept, a new Mg-based Mg-Gd-Si alloy is designed for the hydrogen storage, in which Gd is a rare earth metal. The presence of Si in this alloy is effective in suppressing the formation of both MgH2 and GdH2 in the course of hydrogenation of the Mg-Gd-Si alloy. As a result, the dehydrogenation reaction could be activated, so that Si is an effective non-metal element in the Mg-based alloy for the hydrogen storage.

    This research aims to create a group 5 hydrogen separation membrane made into a thin plate by using high pressure allotropic micro-structure control and to improve the resistance to hydrogen embrittlement at low temperature operation by synergistic effect. In addition to hydrogen permeation performance evaluation, ductile-to-brittle transition hydrogen concentration analysis and durability evaluation by in-situ SP (C) test in hydrogen environment have been conducted. Then, we aimed to elucidate the mechanism of expression of unique physical properties by ultrafine grains.
    As a result, by HPT processing to group 5 metal, the average crystal grain size becomes several hundred nm, and ultrafine crystal structure is formed. Although the existence ratio of the random grain boundary increases with the heat treatment, the hydrogen permeability coefficient is dependent on the grain size, so the grain boundary may function as a high speed diffusion route of hydrogen.

    This study is aim to establish a new paradigm in the field of hydrogen permeable metal membranes on the basis of hydrogen chemical potential. In view of the “Consistent description of hydrogen permeability”, the influences of various factors on hydrogen solubility and hydrogen diffusivity have been evaluated quantitatively.
    From the new point of view, the origin of the anomalous temperature dependence of the hydrogen permeability at low temperature found in Pd-Ag alloy membrane has been elucidated. Also, a new guideline has been proposed to design V-based alloys with high hydrogen permeability and strong resistance to hydrogen embrittlement for low temperate operation.
    It is demonstrated that the newly designed V-Fe alloy membrane maintains 5 to 10 times higher hydrogen permeation flux than that of Pd or Pd-alloy membranes, for more than 1000 hours without showing any hydrogen embrittlement even at low operating temperature of 300 C.
