Isotopic data of Sm-Nd, La-Ce and Rb-Sr systems, rare earth element (REE) abundances and major element compositions are reported for the Archean Marble Bar Chert from the Towers Formation of the Salgash Subgroup, Warrawoona Group, Pilbara Block, Western Australia. The Marble Bar Chert records two Sm-Nd ages; 3.2±0.3 Ga for red (or black) and white banded cherts and 2.5±0.2 Ga for yellowish gray cherts. These ages contain relatively large uncertainties and are younger than 3.45 Ga U-Pb zircon ages previously reported for the Salgash Subgroup. The results imply some later perturbation in Sm-Nd system of these cherts after their formation. However, the older age of 3.2±0.3 Ga is close to the U-Pb zircon ages for the Salgash Subgroup within analytical errors and therefore can be regarded as the formation time of the banded cherts. On the other hand, the younger age of 2.5±0.2 Ga for the yellowish gray cherts is thought to reflect the time of later thermal events and the cherts do not retain their original chemical features. The 3.2 Ga Sm-Nd age for the Marble Bar banded cherts is the first Archean record obtained for the Archean cherts; their initial εNd value of +1.0±3.0 holds the original nature at their formation without severe geochemical disturbance. The obtained mantle-like depleted or chondritic feature at 3.2 Ga for the banded cherts, together with their SiO2 and Fe2O3∗ data and positive Eu anomalies in REE patterns, suggests substantially large contribution of hydrothermal solution derived from depleted- or chondritic-mantle to the cherts and inorganic origin of the cherts, which contrasts to Phanerozoic biogenic cherts.

A large number of carbonate concretion samples were collected during the dredging around Nagoya Port. Most of the concretion samples had biological remains such as crab, sea urchin, and bivalve as their nuclei. In this study, radiocarbon (14C) ages of the shells of the biological remains inside the concretions, as well as of the concretions, were determined. Based on the metabolic carbon ratios in the bivalvia and sea urchin shells calculated from the δ13C values, the 14C age of the shells was estimated to be 7,350−7,050 cal BP. The 14C dates of the carbonate concretions were older than those of the shells due to the metabolic carbon with older ages into the concretion carbon. The corrected age after removal of the old carbon was estimated to be 7,530−7,270 cal BP. The almost the same corrected ages between the shells and the concretions indicate that the carbonate concretions in the Nagoya Port area were formed by rapid concretion after the death of the organisms, which is consistent with the morphological findings of rapid concretion in the sediment.

Iran Plateau has been considered as a part of the Alpine-Himalayan orogenic belts and is situated between two major sutures, Paleotethys suture in the north and Neotethys suture in the south. Most of the magmatic activities in Iran have been controlled by these two-ocean birth to death. The rupture-drift of the Iran microcontinent from the Arabian plate in the northern Gondwana and the rejoining in the Cenozoic can be considered as a typical Wilson cycle.

Elucidation of the sources of carbon components (organic carbon, elemental carbon, carbonate carbon, etc.) in atmospheric aerosols is important to control air pollution and to a better understanding of global climate change. Air pollution in Iran, especially in urban areas, is increasing, but there has been little analysis of the carbon components in aerosols. The atmospheric aerosol in semi-arid Iran contains not only carbon particles but also a large amount of dusty aerosols such as soil particles, and it is important to understand not only the carbon component but also the inorganic elemental components in order to analyze the source of aerosols in this region. The purpose of this study was to determine the source of urban atmospheric aerosols in the region by analyzing 14C, δ13C, and inorganic element concentrations in urban atmospheric aerosols in the Kurdistan Province of Iran, near the border with Iraq. The results showed that the contribution of FC was larger in the winter season than in other periods, while the contribution of non-FC was larger from March onward. In addition, an increase in soil particles from Iraq and other western regions was observed during the spring season.

Strontium isotopic ratios (87Sr/86Sr) of large volcanic blocks in the Maebashi mudflow deposit, which constitutes the basement of the Maebashi-Takasaki area in Gunma Prefecture, and the Tsukahara mudflow deposit, which constitutes the basement of the Saku-Karuizawa area in Nagano Prefecture, indicate that these mudflow deposits were brought by a failure event of Kurofu volcano, an initial stage volcanic edifice of Asama volcano. Furthermore, 14C ages of wood fragments buried in the deposits indicate that the mudflows were generated by the a failure event of Kurofu volcano during the last glacial period ca.27 ka cal BP (Sato et al., 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022) In this presentation, we present these results.
