This research has constructed an information platform for a cross-sectional study of the Meiji Civil Code, Meiji Commercial Code, Old Civil Code (Boissonade Civil Code), and Old Commercial Code (Roesler Commercial Code). This system provides access to the previously little-known drafts of the Old Commercial Code at each drafting stage, the legislative reference of the Meiji Commercial Code, the legislative reasons for each code, and a large volume of proceedings in chronological order.
This study quantitatively evaluated the similarities in the content through an exhaustive comparison of the referenced legislative examples. However, it is difficult to grasp the overall picture by simply arranging numerical values of similarity. Therefore, this study examined ways to visualize and show relationships based on similarity.

This project successfully created an international network of legal experts who wish to know foreign laws deeper through the comparison of laws of Japan, China, Korea, and Taiwan. Based on this network, the project taught jointly at some graduate programs and produced various illustrations to highlight functional differences of the same terms. The illustrations are particularly useful in comparison of legislative drafting, procedure laws, and the use of the law. A vocabulary analysis clarified that each basic law uses a fairly unique set of vocabulary without sharing common terms. The further analysis of what terms six basic laws of four jurisdictions share waits for the completion of a shared vocabulary database for comparative law.

Regarding "Jinji Koshinroku (Who's who)," which is a book material, we constructed a database that stores its structured full-text by utilizing experience in information processing in legal informatics. This database makes it possible to extract and analyze the data needed by researchers in Japanese political history, Japanese economic history, and comparative politics.
Concerning the unexplained modern Japanese rich and elites, by using visualization of relative networks, we examine the "modern feudal social class" and point out its characteristics through intergenerational income mobility and educational background.

This research project, based on the information extracted from the biography of former Emperor Hirohito (Showa-Tennou-Jitsuroku), analyzes the authoritarian regime centered around the former emperor and its transformation from the Meiji to the postwar period.
    (a) This research formulated text data from the Emperor's biography and extracted the name and title of the individuals who were presented at Court. As a result, we could extract the names and titles of 44,322 presentees. A look at the list reveals that Imperial Princes, Lord Keepers of the Privy Seal, and Ministers of the Imperial Household were frequently granted an audience to the former emperor. Also, we tabulated monthly data showing the number of meetings with the the former emperor by each person from 1941 to 1944 and found that this data may reveal an aspect of some historical events during the period. (b) Associated with the project (a), we built a retrieval database of the legal news (Houritsu-Shinbun).

This project focused on the legal information of Japan, China, Korea and Taiwan (CJKT) and aspired to promote mutual in-depth understanding and study of comparative law. The results are as follows. The project developed through the CJKT collaboration an information sharing environment where 140,000 bilingual pairs (the original language and English) of statutes of the CKT, the digital images of Japan's English Official Gazette and 160,000 pairs of its bilingual text, and 13,000 entries of the standard translation dictionary of legal terms of the CJKT are compiled. The project developed the approaches for machine translation and the document type definition of Japanese statutes. The project learned the practice of Korea and the EU for "plain law" and developed a model of the "LawPack," an information package to enhance the knowledge of a particular legal topic. The "eLen" system with 980,000 rules of Japanese local governments made the crossover search on the stored data possible.
