    Pupils’ ability to represent mathematical concepts in multiple ways is a central aspect of mathematical competence and communication. Thus, classroom instructions should be able to support learners in using multiple representations (MRs) to increase the quality and quantity of connections to a network of ideas. Given the importance of bansho (board writing and organisation) in Japanese mathematics classrooms, this study aimed to investigate how MRs are presented as bansho in a mathematics classroom. Guided by a coding scheme of MRs on bansho content, the analysis revealed the ways the MRs are facilitating (or hindering) pupils’ understanding. In considering the effect of the sequence and translation of MRs identified in this study, it is important to focus on these aspects of lesson design in the future. The relevant findings are also crucial to illustrate to the educators and researchers how to explore the processes involved in the use of MRs and the critical factor that contribute to the success/failure of such processes through a detailed examination of the bansho.

    In Fukuroi City Japan, greenhouses are usually used for crown musk melon (CMM) cultivation. When the temperature inside the greenhouse is lower than 25 °C, the CMM quality deteriorates. Hence, from late autumn until the middle of spring, oil is used to supply hot water to greenhouses from a boiler through a heat exchanger. However, since oil prices have recently soared, fuel expenses have drastically increased which heavily pressures the CMM business. In addition, with the promotion of the carbon-neutral policy, environmentally friendly heat sources are emphasized instead of fossil fuels. The TSK corporation has produced a new inducing heating (IH) source where heat is generated by rotating a plate on which a couple of permanent magnets are mounted using a motor. Since the rotation speed is easily controlled, the IH heat source capacity can be freely adjusted. To apply the IH source to the greenhouse, an experimental system was created in this study. During the experiment, water inside a vessel (maximum volume of 90 L) was heated to 70 °C by the IH system. Then, the heated water was circulated for heat dissipation through a heat exchanger by a pump. When the temperature of the water was lower than the target temperature, the IH system restarted to heat the water back up to 70 °C. Under several experimental conditions, the heating time, reheating time, and electric power were measured and evaluated. It was confirmed that the new IH heat source could possibly be applied to greenhouses.

    Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to capitalize on the advantages of an evidence-based lesson analysis while proposing a method of research on teaching that offers opportunities for deeper reflections. The objective is to examine how well a transnational learning project such as this one can determine the cultural script of a mathematics lesson in Malaysia through the perspective of Japanese educators well trained in the lesson study approach. Emphasis here is on a cross-cultural analysis to view in depth the cultural script of teaching mathematics in Malaysia with particular focus on how teachers respond to students’ mistakes in a mathematics lesson. Design/methodology/approach: This paper draws on data collected by the authors in a lesson study in Malaysia that aimed to provide a cross-cultural analysis of a Malaysian mathematics lesson (grade 10) through the eyes of Japanese educators. Data retrieved should determine the cultural script of a mathematics class in Malaysia with an emphasis on Malaysian teachers’ responses to students’ mistakes in class. The cross-cultural analysis of a lesson is a comparative method that reveals the hidden factors at play by increasing awareness of characteristics in classroom situations that are self-evident to all involved members. Findings: The findings are intended to the cultural script of Malaysia in the context of “classroom culture regarding mistakes” and “mistake management behavior.” The impact on the quality of teaching and learning also discussed in relation to how it can be improved in practice from the following perspectives: the teacher’s attitudes toward student mistakes
    how mistakes are treated and dealt with in class
    and how learning from mistakes is managed. The data in Table II provide a meta-analysis of evidences of “classroom culture regarding mistakes” and “mistake management behavior” of the teacher from the Malaysian researchers and practitioners’ perspective as well as from the lens of the Japanese educators. Research limitations/implications: This study realizes that both sets of research studies value the importance of mistakes. It is important to identify the source of students’ mistakes and further learn from them. In order to reveal the overall structure of the cultural script of lessons, we need to realize that various cultural scripts are at work in the production of any given lesson. In the future, the authors hope to develop the potential of this view of culture script of teaching through cross-cultural analysis for lesson study and curriculum research and development. Practical implications: This study aims to capitalize on the advantages of evidence-based lesson analysis through the lesson study process while proposing a method of research on teaching that offers opportunities for deeper reflections. The objective is to examine how well a transnational learning project such as this one can determine the cultural script of a mathematics lesson in Malaysia through the perspective of Japanese educators well trained in the lesson study methodology. Social implications: The authors need to obtain reflective feedback based on concrete facts, and for this reason “lesson study,” a pedagogical approach with its origins in Japan, is attracting global attention from around the world. This study focuses on the discrete nature, the progression, significance, and the context of lessons. That is, by avoiding excessive abstraction and generalization, reflection based on concrete facts and dialogue retrieved from class observations can be beneficial in the process. The mutual and transnational learning between teachers that occurs during the lesson study process can foster the building and sharing of knowledge in teaching practice. Originality/value: There is currently little empirical research addressing “classroom culture regarding mistakes” which mostly represents how teachers and students learn from mistakes in the classroom. This study focuses on a cross-cultural analysis to view in depth the cultural script of teaching mathematics in Malaysia with particular focus on how teachers respond to students’ mistakes in a mathematics lesson. The following perspectives are examined: the teacher’s attitudes toward student mistakes
    how mistakes are treated and dealt with in class
    and how learning from mistakes is managed.

    Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to capitalize on the advantages of an evidence-based lesson analysis while proposing a method of research on teaching that offers opportunities for deeper reflections. The objective is to examine how well a transnational learning project such as this one can determine the cultural script of a mathematics lesson in Malaysia through the perspective of Japanese educators well trained in the lesson study approach. Emphasis here is on a cross-cultural analysis to view in depth the cultural script of teaching mathematics in Malaysia with particular focus on how teachers respond to students’ mistakes in a mathematics lesson. Design/methodology/approach: This paper draws on data collected by the authors in a lesson study in Malaysia that aimed to provide a cross-cultural analysis of a Malaysian mathematics lesson (grade 10) through the eyes of Japanese educators. Data retrieved should determine the cultural script of a mathematics class in Malaysia with an emphasis on Malaysian teachers’ responses to students’ mistakes in class. The cross-cultural analysis of a lesson is a comparative method that reveals the hidden factors at play by increasing awareness of characteristics in classroom situations that are self-evident to all involved members. Findings: The findings are intended to the cultural script of Malaysia in the context of “classroom culture regarding mistakes” and “mistake management behavior.” The impact on the quality of teaching and learning also discussed in relation to how it can be improved in practice from the following perspectives: the teacher’s attitudes toward student mistakes
    how mistakes are treated and dealt with in class
    and how learning from mistakes is managed. The data in Table II provide a meta-analysis of evidences of “classroom culture regarding mistakes” and “mistake management behavior” of the teacher from the Malaysian researchers and practitioners’ perspective as well as from the lens of the Japanese educators. Research limitations/implications: This study realizes that both sets of research studies value the importance of mistakes. It is important to identify the source of students’ mistakes and further learn from them. In order to reveal the overall structure of the cultural script of lessons, we need to realize that various cultural scripts are at work in the production of any given lesson. In the future, the authors hope to develop the potential of this view of culture script of teaching through cross-cultural analysis for lesson study and curriculum research and development. Practical implications: This study aims to capitalize on the advantages of evidence-based lesson analysis through the lesson study process while proposing a method of research on teaching that offers opportunities for deeper reflections. The objective is to examine how well a transnational learning project such as this one can determine the cultural script of a mathematics lesson in Malaysia through the perspective of Japanese educators well trained in the lesson study methodology. Social implications: The authors need to obtain reflective feedback based on concrete facts, and for this reason “lesson study,” a pedagogical approach with its origins in Japan, is attracting global attention from around the world. This study focuses on the discrete nature, the progression, significance, and the context of lessons. That is, by avoiding excessive abstraction and generalization, reflection based on concrete facts and dialogue retrieved from class observations can be beneficial in the process. The mutual and transnational learning between teachers that occurs during the lesson study process can foster the building and sharing of knowledge in teaching practice. Originality/value: There is currently little empirical research addressing “classroom culture regarding mistakes” which mostly represents how teachers and students learn from mistakes in the classroom. This study focuses on a cross-cultural analysis to view in depth the cultural script of teaching mathematics in Malaysia with particular focus on how teachers respond to students’ mistakes in a mathematics lesson. The following perspectives are examined: the teacher’s attitudes toward student mistakes

    2019年度は、web上で稼働可能なシステムの構築（ソフトウェアの開発）に先立ち、Excelの関数とマクロを用いた、単体のプログラムを作成した。授業分析をしている国内外の研究者や学生に、そのプログラムを使用してもらい、授業構造化システムを構築するための手がかりを得た。とくに、授業分析の初心者が多いモンゴルの研究者や学生からは、その方法だけでなく、目的や理念についての理解を得られたことが伝えられた。
    また、テキストマイニングの技術を用いて、授業記録を分析した。その結果、語の出現を手がかりに授業を分節にわけることができた。しかしながら、多くのケースを学習して最適解を出す手法では、一回限りの授業では十分な成果が挙げられないことが明らかになった。この点を改善する手法を開発する必要がある。
    当初予定の内容の一部は進め方を見直す必要があるが、全体的には順調に進めることができており、二年度目に重点的に授業構造化システムを開発する。
    本研究が設定している、１）先行研究の調査、２）蓄積している授業記録の分析、３）授業諸要因の解明、４）授業構造化システムの開発、５）学校を基盤とする研究の実現を目指した研修に適用したシステムの評価のうち、１～３は順調に進んでいる。４も当初どおり進めることができている。ただし、学校教員を対象にした調査は海外のみで、国内の調査が十分には進んでいない。この点を重点的に展開する。
    １）先行研究の調査、２）蓄積している授業記録の分析、３）授業諸要因の解明、４）授業構造化システムの開発、５）学校を基盤とする研究の実現を目指した研修に適用したシステムの評価のうち、１～３は継続して展開する。とくに二年度目は４に焦点を当てて推進する。上にも書いた通り、５のうち国内の学校教員を対象にした調査を進める。

    This study focuses on Bansho (Board Writing) in elementary and junior high schools in Japan. The teacher uses Bansho not only for transferring knowledge but also promoting classroom interaction and learning with social constructivist approach during lesson. The Teacher writes down the contents of students' utterances and making summary and relation among them. In this study, we developed a visualizing methods and descriptive language for Bansho process during lesson, analyzed the students' interaction during lesson and clarified the role of Bansho and teachers' practical knowledges.

    The purpose of this study was to develop a comparative research design as a lens for deep understanding of cultural foundation of teaching, especially what goes on in the classroom as praxis.     In this study the researcher made clear three features about teacher-trainees' movement in front of blackboard. The first feature is "non-moving status". We can observe this status in first time mock-up lessons which were done by teacher-trainees. They don't check students' notebooks whether what do they write on or their textbooks whether where do they read on. The second feature is "liner movement" which trainees change positioning left to right. The trainees re-write new words on the blackboard after fulling on blackboard with words at edge of the right. The last feature is "walking around classroom complexly". We can observed this status after trainees go to actually school as teacher-students, so the researcher was be able to set up new hypothesis from the result of this study.

    We calified the factor structural changes of students' vocational competencies and influences of career and educative activities on them through a few longitudina- follow up questionnaire studies between 2013 and 2015 in Japan, the USA, Germany and South Korea.
    Generally, contrastively to the developments of vocational basic abilities, vocational values withdrew in these two years. In the comparioson among countries, German students show strong tendencies in the factor sclaes "Language skills" and "Technical skills" and American students are also higher in the scale "Job management skill" than other students. Japanese students are higher in "Self-realization orientation" and "communication skills", but they seem to rely on their life styles of part-time job centered.

    The characteristic of the analysis viewpoint of teachers was a way of teachers' questions, the characteristic remark of the child, an atmosphere of the whole class. Teachers as researchers counted the number of times of instructions and the confirmation of the teacher, and it gave the conclusion that there might be too much. Teachers made clear that lesson's beginning part which teacher taught was the part which he did living guidance. We made clear that we faced class analysis in a viewpoint aiming at class improvement.
    We found the characteristic of the analysis viewpoint of the teacher-students which has a pattern of the instruction between the desk, the teaching of the teacher, and the class development. It was revealed that the analysis method put plural analysis methods together and worked on class analysis.

    This research tried to clarify the structure of high school students' vocational views and their changes in six countries(Japan, US America, Germany, China, South Korea and Indonesia), also aims to extract some influencing factors in educational activities regard career guidance and education activities. As result, first, such four factors as“self development",“contribution to society",“economic life"and“aspiration to leader"are derived through two questionnaire surveys to students in six countries. Second, mostly in all factors, Japanese and German students who live in developed countries are weaker than developing countries'students such as Indonesia and China. Third, it has become clearly that students who belong to general and academic schools(departments) are higher in such scales as first and second factors, and contrastively to them, orientations of vocational students are stronger than general students. These tendencies depend on some career developmental activities and human relationship including family. Especially, we could confirm the influences of house works, vocational courses, practical learning in outside school in some countries or schools.
