本研究は、多元的価値と宗教間融和に対応する宗教知の創造と宗教教育の多様な実践を明らかにすることを目的とする。研究対象国は、インドネシア、トルコ、ドイツ、イタリア、韓国とする。主な研究課題は、第一に各国・各宗教の宗教指導者組織と宗教指導者養成機関では多元的価値と宗教間融和に対応する宗教知がいかなる議論を経て創造されているか、第二に各国では学校や宗教施設において、宗教教育が次世代に対してどのように行われているかである。各国の特徴を明らかにするとともに、地域横断的、宗教横断的に考察することにより、立体的に宗教知の創造と宗教教育の実践の現代的特徴と課題を明らかにすることを最終的な到達点とする。
本研究の目的は、多宗教および国際比較の観点から、多元的価値と宗教間融和に対応する宗教知の創造と宗教教育の多様な実践を明らかにすることを目的とする。研究対象国は、インドネシア、トルコ、ドイツ、イタリア、韓国である。各国の特徴を明らかにするとともに、これらを地域横断的、宗教横断的に考察することにより、立体的に宗教知の創造と宗教教育の実践の現代的特徴と課題を明らかにすることを最終的な到達点とする。
研究課題は、1．宗教指導者による多元的価値と宗教間融和に対応する宗教知の創造、2．養成機関における多元的価値と宗教間融和に対応する宗教知の創造、3．公教育および宗教施設で行われる宗教教育の多元的価値と宗教間融和への対応、4．総合的考察である。
2年目となる2024年度は、現地調査をイタリア、ドイツ、日本で実施した。イタリアでは、エミリアロマーニャ神学部の宗教学バカロレア課程におけるカトリック教神学の基礎知識の習得、イタリア教育学会宗教教育部会主催シンポジウム「意味の地平」での情報収取、現地校３校で宗教教育の実践を観察すると同時に仏教ないし禅の実践とカトリックの対話実践における霊性を通じた交流の可能性を考察した。ドイツでは第一に、多元的価値と宗教間融和に対応する宗教教育の実践について、ドイツの公立学校における宗派教育を検討した。具体的には、ハンブルク市とニーダーザクセン州に見られる宗派教育の新たな展開に注目して比較考察した。第二に、ドイツの公立学校及び宗教施設において前年度に引き続き授業観察とインタビュー調査を行った。特に、イスラーム宗教教育に関しては、その目的と内容、社会的統合と宗教間対話をめぐる議論について考察した。日本では、日本カトリック神学院司祭養成課程における多元的価値の涵養に関する調査を実施した。また、比較考察としてイギリスの宗教教育に関する聞き取りを実施した。

2025年は継続して可能な限り現地調査を実施する。しかし、万が一、現地調査が困難な場合は文献資料を中心に研究を継続する。イタリアでは、イスラームの関連の組織や施設を訪問し、ムスリムの人々がイタリア社会における自らの宗教教育をいかに捉えているのかを考察する。
同時に2025年度は、宗教指導者による多元的価値と宗教間融和に対応する宗教知の創造、および宗教指導者養成機関における多元的価値と宗教間融和に対応する宗教知の創造に関しても研究を進め、その特徴を地域横断的・宗教横断的に考察し、その構造を立体的に明らかにすることを試みる。
以上の分析を通して、宗教が公共宗教として積極的な役割をもつことが期待される市民社会において、多元的価値と宗教間融和に対応する宗教知の創造と宗教教育の実践はいかなる形態のもとで実現できるかを明らかにすることを最終的な到達点とする。

本研究では、ポル・ポト時代を除き、マジョリティと平和的に共存してきたといわれているカンボジアにおけるムスリムの教育に焦点をあてる。カンボジアのイスラームコミュニティにおける国民教育(国定カリキュラム)とイスラーム教育(クルアーンに基づく教育)のそれぞ
れの教育実践の工夫や関係を明らかにし、ムスリムの教育を総体的に捉える。そして、教育
からみたマジョリティとマイノリティとの共存関係の創出と調和について実証的に考察し、
宗教間理解のための教育観と新たな視座の析出を目指す。
本研究の目的は、カンボジアのイスラームコミュニティにおける国家カリキュラムに基づく国民教育と、クルアーンに基づくイスラーム教育についての、歴史的変遷と現行の教育活動の特徴およびコミュニティの人びとの認識を検討することで、マジョリティとの共存関係の創出につながる教育の工夫や取り組みを明らかにすることとする。
カンボジアのムスリムは、国民の9割以上を占める上座仏教徒に対するマイノリティである。東南アジア大陸部の一部の国々では、マイノリティであるムスリムとマジョリティの間でしばしば衝突や対立がある一方で、ポル・ポト時代を除けば、カンボジアでは、両者は平和的に共存してきたといわれている。そこで本研究は、カンボジアのイスラームコミュニティにおける国民教育とイスラーム教育のそれぞれの教育実践の工夫や関係を明らかにし、ムスリムの教育を総体的かつ動的に捉える。そして、教育からみたマジョリティとマイノリティとの共存関係の創出と調和について実証的に考察し、宗教間理解のための教育観と新たな視座の析出を目指す。
初年度である2024年度は、文献検討を通じてカンボジアのムスリムの歴史的背景を確認するとともに、ポル・ポト時代以後のイスラームコミュニティの再生とイスラーム学校の展開について理解を深めた。また、現地調査では、設置形態の異なる複数のイスラーム学校を訪問し、それぞれの設置から現在までの経緯や教育課程について聞き取り調査を実施した。加えて、カンボジア・イスラーム最高評議会での聞き取り調査により、教育省からのイスラーム学校教員への公務員給与支給制度の導入など、近年のイスラーム学校の制度化に関する分析も進めている。
初年度である2024年度は、文献検討と現地調査を主に行った。
文献検討では、基礎歴な歴史的背景を中心に検討した。特に、カンボジアのムスリムの中でも、チャンパにルーツのあるチャム人がマジョリティであることを確認し、現在では、カンボジア・イスラーム最高評議会のグランド・ムフティ（カンボジアにおける最高位のイスラーム指導者）が指導するスンニ派ムスリムが主流派であることが分かった。ただし、その他にも異なるグローバルなつながりのあるイスラームグループがカンボジアに存在することが確認された。
現地調査は、東南アジアのマレー世界およびアラブ世界のイスラーム教育を専門とする研究者とともにチームを組み、実施することができた。そこで、カンボジアのイスラームコミュニティにおける異なる設置形態のイスラーム学校を訪問し、教育方針の違いを明確にすることができた。
最も顕著な相違点として、グランド・ムフティの管轄下にある学校は、公立学校化が進んでおり、イスラーム教師に対して公務員としての給与が支給される制度が整備されていた。グランド・ムフティの認可のカリキュラムの使用やイスラーム教育のみを行う学校でも、公立学校化することで学校歴が統一されるなど、制度化が進んでいた。
他方で私立学校としての認可を受ける学校では、自由なイスラーム教育が実施でき、マジョリティとの学校教育との接続の可能性も開かれている一方で、学費がかかるなど、異なる制度的・経済的な条件となっていることが明らかとなった。
2025年度は、イスラームコミュニティの記憶や認識に迫る現地調査を実施する。また、文献検討では、カンボジアの仏教教育の展開や、他のムスリムがマイノリティの国々での教育の実態を検討する。
現地調査では、2024年度に訪問した学校を再訪し、学校長や設置者、そして教師へのインタビューを行う。ライフヒストリーを聞き取り、教育観を明らかにする。また、近年のイスラーム学校の制度化をどのように受け止めているのか、マジョリティとのかかわりについての認識についても聞き取りを行う。
文献検討では、イスラーム教育の制度化の意味について分析を行う。具体的には、カンボジアにおける仏教教育が制度化されたプロセスや意義を検討したり、ムスリムがマイノリティの国々における制度化の実態やその意味や背景などを検討していく。
現地調査と文献検討から、教育からみたマジョリティとマイノリティとの共存関係の創出と調和について実証的に考察し、宗教間理解のための教育観と新たな視座の析出を目指す。

本研究は、インドネシア、韓国、日本の３つの島嶼国家を対象とし、遠隔教育環境が劇的に変化したポスト・コロナ時代における、ローカルな知を基盤とする島嶼地域教育の可能性を国際比較の観点から考察することを目的とする。最終的な到達点は島嶼地域を結ぶ新しい教育ネットワーク構築である。研究課題は、 [１] 島嶼地域の教育とローカルな知に関する史料考察、 [２] 島嶼地域の教育とローカルな知に関する現地調査：歴史、 [３] 島嶼地域の教育とローカルな知に関する現地調査：現在、 [４] 島嶼地域をメリットとするローカルな知の発信：未来から構成する。
本研究の目的は、約14,000島（有人島1,766）を有するインドネシア、約3,350島（有人島470）を有する韓国、約6,800島（有人島430）を有する日本の３つの島嶼国家を対象とし、ポスト・コロナ時代における、ローカルな知を基盤とする島嶼地域教育の可能性を国際比較の観点から考察することを目的とする。最終的な到達点は島嶼地域を結ぶ新しい教育ネットワーク構築である。また本研究は、本来中心に置かれるべき島嶼地域からのローカルな視点に着目し、島嶼地域の活性化を教育学の観点から問い直すものである。開発上困難な島嶼地域という従来の通説を覆し、島嶼地域であることが逆にポスト・コロナ時代ではメリットとなるという前提に立つ。設定した研究課題は、１．島嶼地域の教育とローカルな知の史料考察、２．島嶼地域の教育とローカルな知に関する現地調査：歴史、３．島嶼地域の教育とローカルな知に関する現地調査：現在、4．島嶼地域をメリットとするローカルな知の発信：未来である。

2025年度は前年度までに実施した文献研究を継続すると同時に、現地調査を実施する。具体的には、韓国の島嶼地域での現地調査の実施、インドネシアの島嶼地域での現地調査の実施（2023年度に調査を実施したリアウ諸島州ナトゥナ諸島の他、中部ジャワ州ジュパラ郡カリムン・ジャワ諸島の追加調査の実施）、日本の島嶼地域での現地調査（主に三重県伊勢志摩地域、長崎県五島列島地域）を実施する。
以上の分析を通して、１）ローカルな知と文化資源を生かした島嶼地域からの教育の発信（島嶼地域を周縁に位置づけるのではなく、地球面積の１割弱を占める島嶼地域の重要性と存在感を示す）、２）日本、インドネシア、韓国と同様、海洋に接する国々が海洋国家構想を打ち出すなかで、島嶼地域のローカルな知の重要性と可能性を学術的に解明することを目指す。

In this study, we have been conducting research with the aim of examining the regional characteristics and resonance of Muslim identity produced by Islamic education around the world. As a result, we have collected examples of reforms in Europe and the United States, where Muslims have established madrasas as their own educational institutions and, at the request of the government, have placed emphasis on general subjects such as English and mathematics, as well as teaching about sexual minorities. Additionally, in madrasas across Asia and Africa, we observed cases where reforms were initiated independently, maintaining autonomy and independence while also prioritising general subjects, in an effort to coexist with public education (regionality). It has also become clear that these regional aspects of Muslim identity circulate and resonate across regions through means such as study abroad, publications, and social media (resonance).

This study aims to clarify the forms of integration between “religious knowledge” and “secular knowledge” at national Islamic universities in Indonesia, as well as the development of a knowledge foundation for promoting religious and cultural coexistence through such integration. The results of the study reveal that: (1) the integration of secular knowledge and Islamic knowledge is evident in the curriculum, degrees, and career paths; (2)however, at the present stage, the integration is in the form of compromise, and further integration is expected in the next stage, (3) the institutionalization of traditional Islamic education raises the important issue of how to define the differences between these national Islamic universities and pesantren(traditional Islamic institutions), and (4) the creation of a “common knowledge foundation” for multi-religious and multicultural coexistence through the integration of knowledge is gradually being promoted at the institutional level.

This study examines and seeks solutions to various problems facing the contemporary world through the framework of Islam and Gender Studies. We focus on the division of people that is at the root of various problems and seek to clarify the structures that create this division. From the perspective of Islam and gender, we have conducted humanistic and sociological research on various barriers, disparities, and frictions. We have deepened our study by conducting individual, group, and plenary research, and we have promoted international academic exchange by participating in international workshops and conferences. We also held public seminars and published articles and books to disseminate our research findings, in particular "Islam and Gender Studies" series in 8 volumes.

This study explores an Asian approach that seeks to include diverse learners outside the formal public education system, aiming to build common ground and prevent social fragmentation. Focusing on homeschooling (HS), which often receives the least public support, the research examines cases from the United States, Canada, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, and Nordic countries.
The following findings were obtained: (1) Except for South Korea and Japan, most countries have already established legal frameworks or regulatory exceptions recognizing homeschooling, thereby including a wide range of learners. (2) The reasons for choosing homeschooling have diversified, and the concept of learning outcomes has become more flexible. (3) In all countries studied, standards set by public schools play a key role in ensuring quality and serve as a common grounds. (4) Even after undergoing homeschooling, students have pathways to reintegrate into mainstream higher education.

In the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030, gender and education issues are identified as goals that must be addressed. This study focuses on Malaysia and Indonesia in Southeast Asia, where, despite apparent narrowing of gender gaps in education at the higher education level, a distinctive feature is observed in that men are less likely to advance to higher levels of education. The study aims to elucidate the unique characteristics of ‘work-life career formation’ among men in these countries. This study aimed to clarify the concept of "Asian citizenship" in the global society by conducting an international comparative study of citizenship education in Asian countries from the perspective of changing academic standards in secondary education and reforming liberal arts education in higher education. As a result of the joint research, we concluded that "Asian citizens" can be described by the term "co-citizens (Kyozokumin)". This "co-citizen" means a person who belongs to various communities (e.g., family, region, nation, and world) and values harmonious relationships with people in these communities. And the countries studied focus on education to maintain and strengthen these harmonious relationships, both at the secondary and higher education levels.

This research results are the following four points. First, it was reconfirmed that the concept of Baligh (Bulugh in Arabic) in Islamic teachings is important as a concept relating to human development which separates children and adults. Secondly, the passage rituals performed in each region differ in the timing and meaning of implementation. Third, in common with each region, the response to adolescence depends on the Islamic teachings and the social conditions in which the children are placed in the society. There is an ambivalent situation between them. Fourth, the treatment of adolescence gave rise to different interpretations of education, marriage, social communication, and clothes, and there were some discrepancies with religious teachings.

The purpose of this project was to conduct interdisciplinary research on various issues pertaining to culture, politics and development, based on the question of what gender justice means for Islam. In addition, the project aimed to integrate gender studies in the Middle East and the Islamic world, which had been conducted separately, and to introduce a gender perspective to a wide range of research areas, thereby laying the groundwork of a new intellectual endeavor called “Islam and Gender Studies”.
For this purpose, we conducted individual research, organized joint research teams and plenary sessions, and promoted international academic exchange through participation in international workshops and conferences. The project also aimed to make contributions to society through open seminars for the general public and the publication of the Islam & Gender Studies Series.

The purpose of this study was to develop a comparative research design as a lens for deep understanding of cultural foundation of teaching, especially what goes on in the classroom as praxis. Emphasis is here placed on transnational lesson study and cross-cultural lesson analysis as well as transnational learning for designing ‘science of improvement’ and authentic pedagogy. The findings are intended to clarify the communication approach used in the classroom (speaking/listening/memorizing; writing/reading/noting), teaching materials, teacher agency, classroom climate regarding mistakes, meaning of quality of learning, teaching and teacher, cross‐cultural analysis of pedagogy that drives customised teaching for personalised learning etc. This study pays greater attention to the larger stakeholder of the teaching and pedagogical function and learning process, those who are directly involved in the learning, namely, the students.

Legal technical assistance projects by the government of Japan have been conducted without consideration about legal knowledge and skill of counterparts such as judicial officers and public prosecutors.
Our research finds real pictures, challenges and some problems in the legal education in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam from the point of view that quality of law and judiciary is based on the legal education which counterparts received.These findings will contribute improvement of the quality of legal technical assistance in future.
Reconstruction of views on education based on the analysis of traditional oral and experience-based learning in West Africa

In this study, life stories were collected from 30 apprentices and masters of informal sector workshops in a large traditional industry cluster in Kumasi, Ghana. Throughout the project period, these 30 people were regularly visited for follow-up study. Also, to untangle how knowledge is transmitted in the process of work, continual participant observation was conducted in a few workshops.
Besides, traditional chiefs and their interpreters were visited in Ashanti villages to collect ethnic histories which have been orally transmitted by interpreters of each clan. Such stories are analyzed as forms of education and knowledge transmissions across generations.
As a result of these studies, it is confirmed that the process of learning in traditional Ashanti society is contextualized and through problem-solving in the interactive processes, instead of following the logical structure of theoretical learning. It suggests a fundamental epistemological difference from school-based learning.

What are the national strategies to realize equality and excellence in education? In asking this question, we focused the publicly funded autonomous schools (PFAS) which are given a certain degree of autonomy to fulfill certain purposes. We compared 8 countries; the U.S., Sweden, England, Finland, Singapore, Indonesia, Korea and Japan.
In the U.S., England and Sweden, PFASs are allowed to establish to meet the variety of educational needs, with the diminishing authority of traditional school board, and participation of private business (even of foreign) to run the public schools. The new social risks are generated causing the severe conflicts within the public school system. In Asian countries we looked, they are controlled by the central government (Indonesia closed the school), and the missions are skewed to educating talented manpower for the global world. In Korea and Japan, autonomous schools outside of public compulsory school system are becoming a challenge for the governments.

This study found that many Asian counties and areas shared one of the main purposes of recent years' college entrance examination reform as for reducing many gaps in the societies. There are two kinds of the preferential policies, and one is for ethnic minorities and the other for students in rural areas. Both of them include the steps of adding points of the exams or of quota systems for specific groups. They are, however, controversial issues in many countries and have not been settled yet so far. It also found that there were many kinds of college-bound programs including IB and AP programs there, and they could mainly be categorized as four types, based on an axis suggesting the domestic or overseas bound program, and the other one suggeting that one college authorizes academic credits or many do them.

This research extracts and analyzes cases in which women play an active role in rebuilding the lives of post-disaster society in Indonesia, based on the accumulation of researches on the relief and reconstruction process of the 2004 Sumatra Earthquake and Tsunami, by combining field survey, local literature survey, and database-analyzing of survivors’ testimonies. The outcomes of this research were published through international scientific conference, public seminar, and book chapters. The database of survivors’ testimonies, a byproduct of this research, has been shared as teaching materials by local university.
