Here, we have focused on the number of exits which is related with the evacuation dynamics. For comparison, the room without corridors was also considered. Evacuation time and the size of bottleneck formed at the exit were examined by changing the number of exits. Especially, we discussed the evacuation dynamics toward the exit, which could be affected by the corridors in the room. As the number of evacuees was increased, it took more time for evacuation, but it was observed that the evacuation time unexpectedly depended on the number of exits, which was caused by each exit location. Apparently, less effects of corridors on the evacuation time was found. This is because the evacuation time without corridors was decreased when all evacuees could move freely but were forced to concentrate at the exit.

    A diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a key technology to meet future emission standards of particulate matters (PM), mainly soot. It is generally consists of a wall-flow type filter positioned in the exhaust stream of a diesel cars. It is difficult to simulate the thermal flow in DPF, because we need to consider the soot deposition and combustion in the complex geometry of filter wall. In our previous study, we proposed an approach for the simulation of gas-solid flow. That is, the gas phase was simulated by the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM), coupled with the equation of heat conduction inside the solid filter substrate. However, its numerical procedure was slightly complex. In this study, to reduce numerical costs, we have proposed a new boundary condition with chemical equilibrium in soot combustion at the surface of filter substrate. Based on the soot oxidation rate with catalysts evaluated in experiments, the lattice Boltzmann simulation of soot combustion in catalyzed DPF is firstly presented to consider the process in the after-treatment of diesel exhaust gas. The heat and mass transfer is discussed to validate our approach.

    To reduce particulate matters (PM) including soot in diesel exhaust gas, a diesel particulate filter (DPF) has been developed for the after-treatment of exhaust gas. In simple explanation of DPF, it traps PM when exhaust gas passes its porous wall. However, since the filter would be plugged with particles to cause an increase of filter back-pressure, filter regeneration process is needed. In this study, we have simulated the flow with soot combustion by the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). Here, the real filter was used in the simulation. The inner structure of the filter sample was scanned by a 3D X-ray CT technique. By conducting tomography-assisted simulation, we obtained local velocity and pressure distributions in the filter, which is hardly obtained by measurements. Especially, to consider the heat transfer to the solid wall of the filter, the equation of heat conduction was solved, simultaneously. That is, the approach for the simulation of gas-solid flow is presented. Based on the temperature change and reaction in DPF, the heat and mass transfer in the filter regeneration process was discussed.

    Diffusion flames are widely used in practical combustors such as furnaces and diesel engines. To increase the combustion efficiency and reduce the harmful products to the environments, fundamental researches are needed for improving the design and operation of the combustor. In this study, we have focused on a triple port burner to provide plurality of combustion air jets. The burner consists of three concentric tubes. Air flows in both inner (central) and outer tubes, and fuel (propane) flows in the annulus between these air tubes. Then, two diffusion flames are formed in the boundary of fuel and air streams. We have numerically investigated combustion characteristics in the triple port burner. For comparison, some experiments including the temperature measurement have been conducted. Based on numerical and experimental results, the flame structure has been discussed.

    The influence of flame curvature and unsteady behavior on the local extinction and flame structure is investigated by numerical simulation of the counterflow premixed flame using chemical kinetics model. To impart a curvature to the flame front, the premixed gas is spouted with axial velocities varying in the transverse direction at the nozzle. The methane-air premixed gas with near flammability limit (equivalence ratio is 0.55) is considered. The heat release rate begins to fall immediately after a part of spout velocity is changed from surrounding
    velocity, and the local extinction occurs. However, the flame is recovered by propagating from surroundings. In this study, the flame structures (i.e. heat release rte, temperature and mole concentrations) at this local extinction are investigated, and by comparing with the experimental results by OH-CH2O simultaneous PLIF (Planar Laser-Induced Fluorescence) technique, it is shown that the measurement is the quite useful tool to evaluate the local extinction.

    Ignition is a transient combustion phenomenon and one of the most difficult and complex problems, which includes a lot of physical and chemical processes, so that it has not yet been explained sufficiently. In the present study, the ignition characteristics of methane-air mixture were investigated by numerical analysis using detailed chemical kinetics. Minimum Ignition Energy (MIE) is an important parameter of ignition ability of the system. In order to investigate the effect of the equivalence ratio, electrode gap and size on MIE in the quiescent methane/air mixture, ignition processes were examined considering the heat loss to electrode for axisymmetric numerical model, in which the temperatures of electrode wall were set at 300K, 1000K and 2000K. The GRI-mech 3.0 consisting of 53 species and 325 elementary reactions was applied to the chemical kinetics model. The obtained calculation results were compared with experimental results. The results with heat loss to electrode of wall temperature 300K showed good agreement with experimental results for the relationships of MIE to the equivalence ratio and electrode gap.

    Diesel engines have been used in a wide variety of commercial vehicles. Since the pollution emitted by diesel cars causes environmental problems, stricter diesel emissions standards are being set in many counties. To meet future PM emission standards, we have focused on diesel exhaust gas perfect burning system (DEGPBS), which is the after-treatment of exhaust gas developed by COTEC Company, Ltd. in Japan. So far, it is difficult to observe the phenomena in the filter experimentally, and there is not enough information on the particle combustion in the filter regeneration process. In this study, we conducted simulation of soot combustion by the lattice Boltzmann method. The inner structure of the filter was obtained by a 3D X-ray CT technique. Results show that the combustion reaction is well simulated to discuss the soot oxidation inside the filter.

    In the present paper, we have simulated laminar premixed flames in several types of flow configuration. The counter-flow flame, 1D flame in uniform flow, and 2D flame on a slot burner have been considered. The fuel is propane, and detailed chemistry has been used. We have obtained burning velocity in these flames to examine the response of peak OH concentration in flame zone to burning velocity (SL). In case of counter-flow flame, peak OH concentration is decreased at the larger stretch rate. At the same time, the burning velocity is decreased. The peak OH concentration of 1D flame in uniform flow is decreased at lower equivalence ratio, with smaller burning velocity. It is interesting to note that, for both flames as well as 2D flame, the same linear relationship is observed between two parameters of peak OH and SL . Thus, consistent with earlier findings of turbulent flames, peak OH concentration can be a good measure of burning velocity. In the experiments, we have estimated local burning velocity in turbulent combustion with a cyclone-jet combustor. The slot burner has been used for calibration. It is found that the peak OH concentration in the flame becomes smaller with an increase of turbulence. The local burning velocity is monotonically decreased at higher turbulence. In some cases, its value is almost zero, which could be local extinction. When the fuel is propane, Markstein number is positive for lean mixture. In that case, the burning velocity is decreased due to the stretch effect, which is well in accordance with the fact that the turbulence always suppresses the burning velocity in our measurements.

    Due to the public awareness with regard to harmful diesel emissions, more strict diesel emissions standards such as Euro V in 2008 are being set in the world. As one of the key technologies, a diesel particulate filter (DPF) has been developed to reduce particulate matters (PM) in the after-treatment of exhaust gas. Since the structure of the filter is small and complex, it is impossible to examine the phenomena inside the filter experimentally. In this study, we conducted fluid simulation in DPF. We used the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). The microstructure of DPF was taken into account. The complex flow pattern appears by using the non-slip boundary condition on the filter wall surface. The soot accumulation was simulated to consider the PM trap in the diesel filter. Results show that the flow is largely changed due to soot deposition. As the soot concentration inside the filter is increased, the filter backpressure is increased.

    Recently, more strict diesel particulate emissions standards have been set in many countries. As for the after-treatment of exhaust gas, a diesel filter has been developed to trap diesel particles with small-scale porous structure. Since measurement of flow inside the filter is impossible, the phenomena of particle deposition in the filter are not well understood. In this study, we conducted Lattice Boltzmann simulation on flow in the newly developed diesel filter. The soot deposition was included to consider the particle trap inside the filter. The inner structure of the diesel filter as well as trapped soot region was scanned by a X-ray CT technique. Results show that the flow pattern is largely changed when the soot is attached to the filter surface. By comparing simulation results with CT images, soot accumulation region is well predicted. The amount of trapped soot is proportional to the filter back-pressure.

    We have simulated the flow in a real cordierite DPF using the lattice Boltzmann method. Inner structure of the filter is analyzed by a 3D X-ray CT technique. Two processes of soot deposition for PM trap and soot combustion for filter regeneration process are considered. Especially, the effect of NO2 on the soot oxidation is examined, which is recently proposed as on-board regeneration system. The reaction rate has been determined based on previous experimental data. Results show that, the flow field and pressure change inside the filter are clearly visualized. The pressure distribution depends on the non-uniformity of pore structure. The flow is largely changed with soot deposition, with higher pressure drop across the filter (filter back-pressure). The obtained correlation between total accumulated soot and the filter back-pressure is well in accordance with reported experimental results. In combustion simulation, the effect of NO2 addition to promote the soot oxidation is confirmed. These are useful information to develop the future regenerating DPF system.

    In this study, we simulate the flow in DPF by the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). So far, the LBM has been widely used in fluid simulation, and has been an alternative and promising numerical scheme. It has been confirmed that, through the Chapman-Enskog procedure, the Navier-Stokes equations are derived from LB equations. In the LBM, the treatment of boundary conditions is simple and easy, and it is appropriate to simulate porous media flows such as DPF. In this paper, our approach for LB simulation of combustion is briefly explained. Here, the real filter is used in the simulation. The inner structure of the filter sample is scanned by a 3D X-ray CT technique. By conducting tomography-assisted simulation, we obtain local velocity and pressure distributions in the filter, which is hardly obtained by measurements. First, the flow and pressure profiles are visualized, compared with the empirical equation of the Ergun equation. Then, the soot combustion is simulated. Based on the temperature change and reaction inside the filter, the heat and mass transfer in the filter regeneration process is discussed.

    Fire is one of the most serious disasters. The damage in fire is mainly caused by high heat fluxes from the flame, accidental explosions, and toxic species in smoke generated by combustion reaction, which causes fatalities, destruction of houses and buildings, and air pollution. In order to mitigate these losses, it is important to design the room size and exit location in the building for the fire evacuation to set the evacuation route and provide effective instruments including fire extinguishers and alarms. Additionally, an appropriate management for safety such as dairy training for fire evacuation is needed. In planning individual actions for safety and evaluating the effectiveness of facilities and instruments, it is plausible to understand the phenomena in fire and validate the fire evacuation plan in advance. However, it is difficult to conduct experiments inside the building in fire, because the costs are expectedly huge, and the people are exposed to danger. Therefore, the simulation of fire evacuation is needed. For this purpose, we need to describe the evacuee's behaviors in fire. Since its dynamics is caused by collective crowd behavior, we have difficulties to handle directly each motion by solving coupled differential equations. In this study, we present simulation of fire evacuation by real-coded Cellular Automata (RCA), which is our new approach for pedestrian dynamics.     This paper presented the simulation of room evacuation by the real-coded cellular automata (RCA). The motion of each evacuee was determined by the floor. Only static floor field was used, corresponding to the shortest distance to the exit. We considered two cases with and without obstacle. We changed the initial number of people in the room and the exit width. We concluded that RCA can be a good tool to discuss the total evacuation time and the evacuation route.

    We have investigated the downward flame spread over a thin solid fuel. Hydrogen, methane, and propane, included in the gaseous product of pyrolysis reaction, are added in the ambient air. The fuel concentration is kept below the lean flammability limit to observe the partially premixing effect. Both experimental and numerical studies have been conducted. Results show that, in the partially premixed atmospheres, the flame region is expanded vertically and horizontally, and the flame spread rate is increased. It is interesting to note that, based on the flame index, the premixed flame is formed next to the original diffusion flame. Here, we focus on the heat input by adding the fuel in the opposed air, which could be the direct effect to intensify the reaction in the flame region. The dependence of the flame spread rate on the heat input is almost the same for methane and propane/air mixtures, but larger effect is observed for hydrogen/air mixture. Since the deficient reactant in lean mixture is fuel, the larger effect of hydrogen could be explained based on the Lewis number consideration. That is, the combustion is surely intensified for all cases, but this effect is larger for lean hydrogen/air mixture (Le < 1), because more fuel diffuses toward the flame zone to increase the reaction rate. It is concluded that due to the heat input of the added fuel in partially premixed mixture, the larger heat transfer to the unburned region occurs, resulting in an increase of the flame spread rate.

  156. Local Flame Structure and Turbulent Burning Velocity by OH-HCHO PLIF Technique Reviewed

    In this study, we have examined local flame structure and heat release rate by simultaneous OH-HCHO PLIF technique. We have used a cyclone-jet combustor to establish turbulent premixed flames for propane/air mixtures in a wide range of turbulence, covering the flamelet regime and thin reaction zones regime on combustion diagram. Results show that as the mean velocity at the combustor exit is increased, more complex flame structure is observed with multiple flamelets. Near the global extinction, peak OH concentration in reaction zone becomes almost zero, whereas HCHO concentration in preheat zone still remains. As a result, the large reduction of heat release rate occurs, resulting in local extinction. The turbulent burning velocity determined by the mean flame shape is increased with turbulence, and the bending effect is observed in thin reaction zones regime. On the other hand, the flame surface area is monotonically increased. The estimated local burning velocity based on peak OH concentration is decreased. Thus, in thin reaction zones regime, the alteration of the flame structure appears with overall reduction of combustion rate. This bending effect can be explained with a decrease of local burning velocity, which is unrecoverable from the increase of flame surface area.

    Since diesel exhaust gas has more ambient air pollutants such as NOx and particulate matters (PM) including soot, the special treatment for exhaust emission standards is needed. Recently, a diesel particulate filter (DPF) has been developed to reduce PM in the after-treatment of exhaust gas. However, since the structure of the filter is small and complex, it is impossible to examine the phenomena inside the filter experimentally. In this study, we conduct fluid simulation in the diesel filter. We use the lattice Boltzmann method. The soot accumulation is considered to simulate the PM trap in the Filter. For the wall-boundary in the simulation, the inner structure of the filter is obtained by a 3D-CT technique. Results show complex flow pattern in the diesel filter. Due to the soot accumulation, the velocity is changed and the pressure is increased. The pressure drop becomes larger as soot concentration at the inlet is higher.

    In this study, using the lattice Boltzmann method, we simulate soot accumulation in porous media to examine the particle trap in a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The porous structure is numerically formed for different inner structure with given porosity. The porous media similar to the real sample, Ni-Cr metal, can be obtained, where the pressure fields in both cases are almost the same. In the simulation of soot accumulation, the velocity field is changed when the soot is attached to the porous wall. The pressure drop is largely increased. Interestingly, the friction factor is smaller than experimentally predicted value by Ergun equation.

    Although diesel engines have an advantage of low fuel consumption in comparison with gasoline engines, several problems must be solved. One of the major concerns is that diesel exhaust gas has more particle matters (PM) including soot, which are suspected to be linked to human carcinogen. As one of the key technologies, a diesel particulate filter (DPF) has been developed to reduce PM in the after-treatment of exhaust gas. In this study, we conduct Lattice Boltzmann simulation on combustion in porous media. Results show that the combustion reaction is well simulated to observe the decrease of soot attached to the porous wall. This information is indispensable for the better design of DPF, and LBM can be a good tool for combustion simulation in porous media.

    本研究では,旋回噴流燃焼器によって発生させた乱流予混合火炎を対象に,粒子画像流速測定法(PIV)の測定結果に対する妥当性について検討を行った.その結果,速度の頻度分布からPIV特有の誤差を特定し,それらを取り除くことによってLDVの測定結果とよく一致することを確認した.そして,サンプル数がおよそ2000程度あれば十分信頼性のある各種統計量(平均流速や乱れのRMS値など)が得られ,解像度が得られた速度の測定結果に影響を与えることから適切な解像度での測定が必要であることを明らかにした.さらに,2次元速度場から積分空間スケールを算出し,LDVからの結果と比較したところよく一致した.

    To simulate the flow in three dimensional porous structure, we have applied the Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM), using a D3Q15 model. The distribution function for flow, temperature, and concentration fields are solved to simulate the regeneration process of DPF. For a benchmark study, we have conducted the calculation in simple geometry. To change the flow characteristics such as porosity and tortuosity, the obstacles of different number and size are selected, which are randomly placed in the duct. The flow pattern is changed with different size of obstacles even at the same porosity. To confirm the validity of our calculation, the results are compared in the non-dimensional form with the Blake-Kozeny and Ergun equations, using the Ergun coordinates of Reynolds number and friction factor. Numerical results show good agreements with the Blake-Kozeny equation, although the friction factor is increased with larger obstacles. The soot combustion is well simulated to show the effects of oxygen on the reaction rate. Finally, the real porous geometry has been tested. The 3D CT technique is used to obtain tomography data of Ni-Cr metal. Results show that, the inhomogeneous flow is observed, and there are regions where the temperature is locally higher. This information is indispensable for the better design of DPF. LBM can be a good tool for combustion simulation in porous media.

    Even though laser diagnostics have significantly improved and can obtain an instantaneous 2D flame image of the velocity field, it is still difficult to obtain data such as scalar flux or reaction rates experimentally. It is also essential to understand 3D flame structures in turbulent combustion. Chemically non-reacting turbulent flows are complex and chemical reactions make the problem more complicated. Due to practical limitations of computational costs, conventional numerical methods are very expensive for carrying out 3D numerical simulations at high Reynolds numbers with detailed chemical reactions. In this study, we have used the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) to simulate a combustion field. The LBM is an efficient alternative for the numerical simulation of this type of flow. To confirm the validity of the LBM, a flame in simple flow geometry is simulated and the laminar burning velocity is obtained. Both 2D and 3D simulations have been completed. A jet flame has been also simulated to demonstrate the LBM capability of simulating unsteady flames with vortices. The scheme with detailed chemistry has been tested for simulation of a counter-flow flame.

    地球環境問題やエネルギー問題が深刻化するなか,多くの実用的な燃焼器に用いられる乱流燃焼の現象解明は重要な課題となっている.そこで,本研究では,対向流の流入速度に時間変動と空間変動を与えることで,非定常場での予混合燃焼を模擬し,燃焼速度変化について検討した.また,火炎面の位置を熱発生速度の極値の点とすることで,その面積を算出した.そして,燃焼速度と火炎面積に良い相関があることが分かった.

    実用燃焼器に広く用いられている拡散燃焼において,すすやNOxを低減させる燃焼技術が必要とされている.旋回噴流燃焼器を用いて,燃料と空気の混合を促進することで(部分予混合化),拡散燃焼においても予混合燃焼と同程度のすすやNOxの低排出燃焼が可能となる.本研究では,NOx測定を行い,NOx排出特性がこれまでの実験結果と同様であることを確認した.また,燃焼場のすす濃度計測をレーザを用いたLII法により行い,すすの排出量は総括当量比が2以下でほぼゼロであることを確認した.

    ディーゼル微粒子除去フィルター(DPF)を用いた場合,PMが捕集されると次第に排気圧力が増大して燃費が悪化し,最悪の場合エンジン停止に至る可能性がある.そこで,ある程度PMが捕集された時点でフィルターを交換するか,PMを焼却除去(フィルターの再生過程)する必要がある.フィルターを効率的に開発するには,フィルター内部の現象を予測する必要があるが,フィルターの平均的な空孔の大きさは約10mmであり,その内部の現象を計測すること自体ができないため,これまではPMの吸着過程や吸着した粒子の燃焼過程が不明であった.本研究では,フィルター(固相)と排気ガス(気相)を連成問題として扱うことにより現象を解析する.フィルターの素材を想定した検証実験を行い,モデルの妥当性を検討する.これにより,内部の現象をあらかじめ予測することができ,実験と数値解析を融合させた効率的なフィルターの開発が可能となる.

    ディーゼル車の排気ガス中には、粒子状物質(PM)が含まれ問題となっている。その対策としてフィルター(DPF)が開発されているが、より小さい微粒子が除去できないことや再生過程が必要であるなど課題は多い。これまでDPFの開発は主に実験により行われてきた。内部の現象を理解し、また製品を効率的に設計するためには、数値的に現象を予測・検討することが望ましい。本研究では触媒による反応計算を行い、連続再生フィルターを数値的に解析する。これにより内部の反応機構を直接検討することが可能となる。また、並行して多孔体構造のCT分析やすすの計測を行い、より最適なDPF形状を検討する。

    実用的に最も多く用いられている乱流火炎は,時間的および空間的に激しく変動し極めて複雑な構造となるため,未だほとんど解明されていない.このような乱流火炎における火炎構造(火炎温度や化学種濃度の分布,予熱帯や反応帯の厚さ等)に与える火炎面の形状(曲率の正負と大きさ等)やその非定常挙動(火炎伝播速度,火炎の進行方向等)の影響を明らかにすることを目的とする.このため,同期した2台のパルスレーザを用いて,OH・アセトン-PLIF法による近接した2つの瞬間の二次元火炎面画像から局所の火炎面曲率と伝播速度を計測し,一方,同時に得られるOH蛍光強度から火炎構造の特性量として, OH濃度の極大値や予熱帯の幅を算出し,これらの関係を明らかにする.
