    ABSTRACT

    Aiming to evaluate and compare the performance of Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) motors in a wide frequency range extending from low to switching frequency bands, wide frequency band equivalent circuits were constructed for stator assemblies and IPM motors to evaluate their static state. These equivalent circuits were introduced by combining the electrical equivalent circuit derived from the magnetic circuit with that of the armature winding and magnetic cores. The impedance and the input power of the armature winding terminals were calculated based on the derived equivalent circuit, and the measurements were compared. The results clarified that the leakage inductance caused by the magnetomotive force due to iron loss should be considered, which is not considered in the excitation circuit of conventional equivalent circuits of transformers and induction machines, along with the impedance associated with the capacitance between the armature winding and stator core. In addition, the equivalent circuit of the rotor portion should consider the capacitance between the magnet and rotor core.

    Abstract

    This paper presents a combination system for wind power generation and hydrogen generation. In the proposed system, a doubly‐fed synchronous generator (DFSG) is used as an adjustable speed wind generator, and an electrolyzer is connected to its terminals for hydrogen generation, which is controlled by power electronic converters. The output power from the wind generator is smoothed and supplied to the power system as well as to the electrolyzer to generate hydrogen under cooperative control between the wind generator and the electrolyzer. The performance of the proposed system is investigated by simulation analyses, in which simulations are performed using PSCAD/EMTDC. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     Abstract

    We propose a new method for analysis of the harmonic wave components of magnetic fields in rotating machinery. Using the magnetic permeability obtained by transient analysis of the nonlinear magnetic field, the harmonic wave components of the magnetic field are individually calculated in the spaces of both the rotor and stator subject to the boundary condition that the harmonic wave components obtained by the transient analysis are set on the sliding surface. Mode separation of the magnetic field will contribute to research on reducing harmful harmonic wave components for rotating machinery. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     Hydrogen is considered as the energy source of the next generation. This paper proposes a system which consists of Flywheel Generator (FWG), Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS), and Hydrogen Electrolyzer (HE), for the purpose of hydrogen generation and grid output power smoothing. The cooperative control among flywheel generator, hydrogen electrolyzer, and wind generator is performed by controlling the flywheel generator.     Abstract

    This paper describes a method to analyze higher harmonic currents resulting from higher space harmonics, depending on the winding pattern of a doubly‐fed generator. A 1.5‐MW generator was used for the analysis, and the results are compared using finite element magnetic field analysis and measurements.

    The result revealed that the proposed analysis, which focuses on the winding pattern and takes into account higher space harmonics, allows us to calculate higher harmonic currents at high precision, understand the mechanism of changing higher harmonic currents due to the slip or the load of the generator and considerably reduce higher harmonic currents at the armature by restricting higher harmonic currents at the magnetic field. In addition, the sensitivity analysis of design parameters clarified the relationship between current distortion and basic characteristics on electric designs. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     Abstract

    This paper focuses on selection of wind turbine generation systems that include generators, converters, and gears. We study three systems: a permanent magnet generator (PMG) system, a doubly‐fed generator (DFG) system, and a synchronous generator (SYG) system in terms of the system efficiencies and running costs. The system efficiencies and running costs are calculated by considering the relationship between wind power and wind conditions. According to these results, the one‐step gear PMG system is the best choice for a large wind turbine system. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     Abstract

    This paper presents core loss evaluation of a turbine generator model stator. The stator configuration does not make the magnetic flux distribution uniform, and the induction harmonics make the core loss calculation difficult. In this evaluation, the core losses are measured by rotating stator torque.

    As a result of the measurements, a half‐lap‐stacked stator obtains lower core losses and larger percentage of eddy current losses than a block‐stacked stator. In addition, a gap between each segment makes in‐plane eddy current loss increase. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     Abstract

    The spread of wind energy converters is progressing in recent years and its capacity is becoming larger and larger. In order to capture more energy from the wind, it is important to analyze loss characteristics of wind generators for the operating speed which is determined dependent on the wind speed. This paper presents a method to evaluate various losses in a wind generator as a function of wind speed, which is based on steady‐state analysis and thus the calculations can be performed quickly. By using the proposed method, wind turbine power, generator output, various losses, and the total energy efficiency are calculated for three types of wind speed data which are represented by a Weibull function. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     Background: It has been speculated that host macrophages contribute to rapid clearance of transplanted xenogeneic cells. Methods: Human peripheral monocyte-derived macrophages (P-macrophages) and reticulo-endothelial macrophages (RE-macrophages) were obtained from volunteers' peripheral blood and from the perfusion effluents of liver allografts for transplantation, respectively. 5-(and 6-) carboxyfluorescein diacetate succinimidyl ester (CFSE)-labeled human autologous red blood cells (auto-RBCs), ABO-incompatible RBCs (incom-RBCs) and xenogeneic porcine RBCs (xeno-RBCs) were incubated with the human macrophages; subsequently, the macrophages that had phagocytosed the RBCs could be identified as CFSE positive cells by FCM analyses and confocal microscopy. Cytolytic activity was quantified by calculating levels of lactate dehydrogenase in each culture supernatant. Results: Human RE-macrophages spontaneously phagocytosed and had a remarkable cytolytic activity toward xeno-RBCs, but not toward auto-RBCs or incom-RBCs. Elimination of α-galactosyl xenoantigen (α-Gal) epitopes on xeno-RBCs did not prevent phagocytotic or cytolytic activity of RE-macrophages. Conclusions: These findings indicate phagocytotic and cytolitic activities of human macrophages toward porcine cells are initiated by a factor other than α-Gal in a mechanism independent of antibody/complement opsonization. © Blackwell Munksgaard, 2005.

    Abstract

    This paper describes relationships between characteristics of a magnetically anisotropic slot wedge and voltage higher harmonics in an ac exciting synchronous generator terminal due to permeance ripple caused by an open‐slot‐type rotor. From the relationships obtained, practical guidelines were formulated for machine designs applying the magnetically anisotropic slot wedge. The results are as follows.(1) Equivalent permeability of the magnetically anisotropic slot wedge became isotropic wedge permeability for air‐gap flux ripple.

    (2) Two ways were identified to reduce voltage‐higher harmonics by using the slot wedges.

    (3) The level of leakage flux passing through the anisotropic slot wedge was determined only by its permeability in the width direction.

    (4) Effectiveness of the magnetic anisotropic slot wedges inserted into the stator slots was verified from experimental results using a model machine of the open‐ slot‐type rotor.

    Abstract

    Recently, adjustable speed hydroelectric power systems have been developed. In those power systems, ac exciting synchronous generators are used instead of the ordinary salient‐pole‐type synchronous machines. However, some higher harmonic sequences are included in the distribution of air‐gap magnetic flux density and in the terminal voltage waveform of the ac exciting synchronous machines because these machines have open winding slots. To develop better machines without terminal voltage waveform distortions, an evaluation method of the terminal voltage harmonics has been needed.

    This paper describes the mechanism of higher harmonics generation qualitatively and proposes an analytical method of no‐load terminal voltage waveforms on the basis of two‐dimensional magnetic field analysis considering movement of the rotor for quantitative higher harmonics analysis. The analytical results of higher harmonics show good agreement with the experimental ones.
