  1. Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes Supported Pt Electrocatalyst as a Cathode Catalyst of a Single Fuel Cell with High Durability against Start-up/Shut-down Potential Cycling Open Access

    Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have remarkable properties such as high conductivity, high porosity, and high oxidation resistance, which make them excellent candidates for supporting electrocatalysts in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). In this study, high-crystallinity, high-purity single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), which were prepared by enhanced direct injection pyrolytic synthesis (e-DIPS), were used as a support for a metal electrocatalyst. Platinum (Pt) nanoparticles of uniform size were synthesized by a facile solvothermal method and distributed evenly on the surface of the SWCNTs (Pt/SWCNT). Electrochemical measurements using cyclic voltammetry and linear sweep voltammetry showed that the Pt/SWCNT exhibited higher mass activity and specific activity compared to commercial Pt nanoparticles supported on graphitized carbon (Pt/C). A PEMFC membrane electrode assembly (MEA) utilizing Pt/SWCNT as the cathode layer (Pt/SWCNT-MEA) with low Pt loading demonstrated high-efficiency performance with power density per gram of Pt that was three times higher than that of Pt/C. Furthermore, in a durability test using a high-voltage triangular wave between 1.0 and 1.5 V to induce corrosion of the catalyst and carbon support, simulating harsh conditions of actual repeated start-up/shut-down cycles during long-term use, the Pt/SWCNT-MEA retained high performance even after 10,000 potential cycles. These results indicate that SWCNTs show promise as an excellent support material for electrocatalysts, offering high performance and durability, and thus can contribute to realizing PEMFCs with superior performance.

    <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Subnanocatalysts (SNCs) containing various noble metals (Cu, Ru, Rh, Pd, or Pt) with sizes of approximately 1 nm were synthesized using dendritic poly(phenylazomethine)s as a macromolecular template. These materials exhibit high catalytic performance during toluene oxidation without the use of harmful solvents or explosive oxidants, resulting in the formation of valuable organic products, including benzoic acid as the major product. In particular, Pt<jats:sub>19</jats:sub> SNC with a narrow particle size distribution exhibits extraordinary catalytic activity, with a turnover frequency of 3238 atom<jats:sup>−1</jats:sup> h<jats:sup>−1</jats:sup>, which is 1700 times greater than that obtained by commercial Pt/C catalysts.</jats:p>

    Platinum (Pt)-based electrocatalysts are widely regarded as the preferred choice for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell (PEFC). However, their low stability remains a critical challenge. To overcome this problem, high-crystallinity and high-purity single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), fabricated by the enhanced direct injection pyrolysis synthesis (e-DIPS) method, are utilized as support with a nitrogen introducing treatment applied to produce nitrogen-containing SWCNT (N-SWCNT). Platinum electrocatalysts encapsulated by amorphous-carbon shell are synthesized on nitrogen-containing single-walled carbon nanotubes (Pt/N-SWCNT) using a facile and industrially favorable solution plasma (SP) method. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy observations indicate that Pt nanoparticles in Pt/N-SWCNT are encapsulated within nitrogen-containing carbon shells. As the cathodic catalyst of membrane electrode assembly (MEA) in a single cell, the Pt/N-SWCNT-MEA shows a decrease of only 20.8% in maximum power density after 16 000 cycles of the accelerated durability test (ADT). After the high-voltage acceleration (1.0–1.5 V), Pt/N-SWCNT-MEA exhibits a lower loss of 39.5%, compared to 48.3% for Pt/SWCNT-MEA and 93.2% for commercial Pt/C in maximum power density. These results indicate that nitrogen-containing carbon shells and SWCNTs as supports contribute to enhancing the stability and activity of the catalyst, thereby leading to the excellent performance of the PEFC.

    <jats:p>Perovskite solar cell (PSC) technology holds great promise with continuously improving power conversion efficiency; however, the use of metal electrodes hinders its commercialization and the development of tandem designs. Although single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), as one-dimensional materials, have the potential to replace metal electrodes in PSCs, their poor conductivity still limits their application. In this study, the near-infrared (NIR)-absorbing anionic heptamethine cyanine dye-doped SWCNTs functioned in a dual role as an efficient charge-selective layer and electrode in PSCs. Benefiting from the improvement in conductivities and matched energy level of doped-SWCNT, the dual-role SWCNT electrodes applied to PSCs achieved a better performance than the undoped PSCs with a higher short circuit current (JSC) and fill factor (FF).</jats:p>

    <jats:p>We demonstrate the possibility of forming long-range-ordered self-assembled nanodot arrays with dots size of 5 nm and pitches of 10×7.5 nm<jats:sup>2</jats:sup>using guide line templates and low molecular weight (MW) (4,700–1,200 g/mol) poly (styrene)-poly (dimethylsiloxane) (PS-PDMS) for application in ultrahigh density patterned media. The self-assembled PDMS nanodots are controlled in a long range by varying the heights and gaps of the guide lines. Adopting the 14-nm-high resist guide lines with suitable gaps, the 5-nm-sized and 10×7.5 nm<jats:sup>2</jats:sup>-pitched self-assembled nanodots were ordered in maximum 7 dot arrays with long-range order. The experimental results demonstrate that the method is possible for achieving patterned media with magnetic recording densities of 8.6 Tbit/in.<jats:sup>2</jats:sup>using low MW PS-PDMS and slim guide lines.</jats:p>

    <jats:p>The self-assembly of block copolymer (BCP) has demonstrated as promising alternative technology to overcome the limitation of conventional lithography owing to its ability in forming nanostructure with size 3-100 nm. In this study, we investigated a technique to transfer self-assembled nanodots of Poly(styrene-b-dimethyl siloxane) (PS-PDMS) BCP to Si. The pattern transfer of PS-PDMS nanodots with the pitch of 33 nm and the diameter of 23 nm using CF4 etching with Carbon Hard Mask (CHM) as Mask is demonstrated. Si nanopillar with height of 51 nm was fabricated. This result improves the potential use of PS-PDMS BCP self-assembly technique for fabrication nano-electronic devices, such as quantum dot solar cell and ultrahigh density of magnetic recording.</jats:p>

    <jats:p>In this work, improvement of the observation contrast was investigated by using a carbon film as the hard mask for pattern transfer of block copolymer (BCP) nanodots. The PS-PDMS (Poly (styrene-b-dimethyl siloxane)) block copolymer was adopted here. The observation contrast was greatly improved after transferring block copolymer (BCP) nanodots pattern to the underlying Si substrate through the carbon hard mask compared that before nanodot pattern transfer. Pattern transfer was also demonstrated to be very effective using carbon hard mask.</jats:p>

    <jats:p>In this work, we studied the fabrication of 12-nm-size nanodot pattern by self-assembly technique using high-etching-selectivity poly (styrene)-poly (dimethyl-siloxane) (PS-PDMS) block copolymers. The necessary etching duration for removing the very thin top PDMS layer is unexpectedly longer when the used molecular weight of PS-PDMS is 13.5-4.0 kg/mol (17.5 kg/mol total molecular weight) than that of 30.0-7.5 kg/mol (37.5 kg/mol total molecular weight). From this experimental result, it was clear that PS-PDMS with lower molecular weight forms thicker PDMS layer on the air/polymer interface of PS-PDMS film after microphase separation process. The 22-nm pitch of nanodot pattern by self-assembly holds the promise for the low-cost and high-throughput fabrication of 1.3 Tbit/inch<jats:sup>2</jats:sup>storage device. Nanodot size of 12 nm also further enhances the quantum-dot effect in quantum-dot solar cell.</jats:p>

    <jats:p>We have studied functionalization of guide pattern with brush treatment. Especially, the effect of brush treatment on ordering of nanodots formed on the guide pattern was investigated. We used polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as brush modification to form self-assembled nanodots on the guide pattern using polystyrene (PS) - PDMS as block copolymer. The brush treatment using toluene solvent made guide patterns of the electron beam (EB) drawn resist behave like PDMS guide patterns and good ordering of the nanodots has been achieved. It was demonstrated that the brush treatment enabled the PDMS nanodots to be regularly located in the desired positions defined by the EB drawn guide patterns.</jats:p>

    <jats:p>In this study, we investigate self-assembled large-area nanodot fabrication on a silicon substrate using poly(styrene)-poly(dimethyl-siloxane) (PS-PDMS) for the application to quantum dot solar cell. By optimizing the PS-PDMS concentration by 2% and the volume of PS-PDMS solutions by 20 μL/cm<jats:sup>2</jats:sup> dropped to silicon substrate, nanodots with a pitch size of 33 nm and a diameter of 23 nm are achieved with the molecular weight of 30,000-7,500. It is found that the dropped volume of PS-PDMS solution correlated to the thickness of spin-coated PS-PDMS layer has a great effect on the size and the pattern morphology.</jats:p>

    <jats:p>In this paper, we report two kinds of guide patterns precisely created by electron beam drawing. These guide patterns are expected to precisely control the arrangement of nanodots self-assembled from block copolymer (BCP) in order to obtain long-range-order nanofabrication. The first guide pattern is comprised only of a post lattice. The second guide pattern adds guide lines to the post lattice. The added guide lines are expected to better control the location and orientation of the BCP nanodots. We succeeded in fabricating these two kinds of guide patterns for 22-nm- and 33-nm-pitch BCP nanodots.</jats:p>

    本研究は、Ptをベースにした多元合金サブナノ触媒を用いて、「典型元素 (In,Sn,Bi) との組み合わせから高活性高耐久性に優れた触媒性能を持つ部分酸化Pt多元合金サブナノ触媒」を開発することである。高活性・高耐久性のPtサブナノ触媒を実現するには、電子陽性を示す典型元素のリガンド効果を利用してPtの電子状態をチューニングする手法を考案した。耐久性の向上を示す本触媒は多段階酸化変換プロセスを要するシクロヘキサンからアジピン酸(AA)への直接酸合成の収率向上を目指す。AAの収率・選択率の向上には、本反応に親和性良い金属(Co、Mn等)の第三金属の導入による三元サブナノ触媒の合成を検討する。
    合金サブナノ粒子は,触媒として組み合わせる原子の種類や組成を制御することによって配位子効果やアンサンブル効果が生じ,新触媒性能が発現する可能性が想定される。本研究は、DPA デンドリマーを用いて多元合金を精密合成し、直接アジピン酸(AA)へのシクロヘキサン酸素酸化反応を用いて触媒性能を評価した。実験によると Pt5Sn8Cu6 三元素は二元素(Pt5Sn14やPt5Cu14)と比べて高活性や高耐久性を示し、非常に高いAA収率52.3%、高い変換率79.1%を達成した。このような結果で、合金サブナノ粒子はナイロン-6,6の工業的な生産において新たな実用化可能な触媒として実証した。
    ナノ粒子より極小サイズのサブナノ粒子は、高い表面割合で分子のように振る舞いしているため、飛躍的に反応性が向上する一方、それ自身の熱耐久性が著しく低下するため、触媒用途の実用性が低いと認識された。本研究では、サブナノ粒子を合金化することで異種金属同士の相互作用による相乗効果で活性及び耐久性を向上し、実用化可能な触媒を実証した。
    ナイロン-6,6の生産量は世界的に毎年4.7%伸びているが、工業的に収率が4-11%ものの、温暖化に起因するN2Oを放出する反応を利用されている。今回の結果で、合金サブナノ粒子は新たな実用化可能な触媒として実証されれば全世界のN2Oの放出を5%下げられるにつながる。
