This examination of the TITP will assess why this programme continues to grow and what function it serves in the Japanese labour market. The first question will be answered through questionnaires and key informant interviews with current and former trainees. The second question will be addressed with the employers of trainees. Answering these questions will in turn illustrate what efforts the Japanese government and private sector are making to combat the issues of workforce shortages and demographic decline that pose important challenges to Japan’s future economic prosperity.
1. Competed over 20 key informant interviews with technical interns from Myanmar and Thailand.
2. Completed a short documentary film on a technical intern from Myanmar
3. converted interview information into quantifiable data
4. Drafting 2 co-authored articles
I have completed one of two short documentary films planned and collected 64 of the 100 interviews I have planned. Two articles are in process.

日本とメキシコ両国において、それぞれのチームで研究発表を複数回行ない、2023年2月にはアメリカ合衆国におけるCIEA の国際学会にて、オンラインで参加し、合同で口頭発表を行った。
日本側では、異文化間教育学会年第43回大会にてアンケート結果の一部を共同発表するとともに、これまでのアンケートおよびオンラインインタビューのデータをまとめて調査報告および研究ノートとして２本執筆して発表した。メキシコ側では、国内およびフランスにおいて調査を発展させて報告をし、結果を分析して論文および著書の執筆を進めた。
各国での進捗については随時、両国研究者がオンラインで打ち合わせをし、2月の国際学会での同発表に繋げた。
日本人のメキシコ留学においては、他地域への留学と比べて特徴ある変化が見られ、その中にはメキシコのみならずラテンアメリカ地域全体に通じる言語や文化の習得、また「人生を楽しむ」というような、ラテンアメリカ文化の特徴として一般的に挙げられるような価値観の影響も含まれている。近年コロナ禍の影響でオンライン留学が盛んになり、それは同時に渡航型留学を問い直す契機にもなっている。これまでの本研究では、メキシコ現地での経験を通しての価値観の変化が大きく、渡航型留学ならではの成果を考察することにもつながった。一方、メキシコ人の日本留学においては、技術習得に加えて、日本文化の特徴と一般的に言われる規律や時間厳守などの価値観の影響がみられる。さらに、プログラム参加後のキャリア支援やフォローアップ制度については課題があることがわかってきた。さらに、異文化間調整力の見地から、組織における調整力と個人の調整力の対比が興味深い課題としてうきあがってきた。
2022年度も引き続き新型コロナウイルス感染が収束せず、国際・国内移動が難しい時期が多かったため、当初計画していた毎年の出張や招聘、対面での聞き取り調査などについては、時期を定めることができず、実施できなかった。
アメリカで行われた国際学会には、当初は実地参加を予定して準備をしたが、参加予定者の健康上の都合などでオンラインで参加することとし、共同発表を行った。しかし、今後実際に関係者や専門家との対話を通して考察を深めるという段階が必要である。
また共同研究者が会して、日本とメキシコ両国での分析結果を比較して考察し、分析結果を共著論文にする段階に入ることができなかった。上記の状況は年度当初より、起こりうる可能性として視野に入れており、その場合には研究期間の延長を考えていたため、その方向で進めることとした。
研究期間を2023年まで延長し、最終年は、限定的ではあるがこれまでの成果を報告し、日本側とメキシコ側のデータを比較検討し、さらに全体を分析して研究論文として発表する。
両国の関係機関で日本・メキシコ交換留学プログラムの50期生記念行事が行われる予定のため、それぞれのイベントて研究成果を報告する。
2023年度に出張や招聘が安全にできる状況であれば、国内外での関係学会等で情報収集しながら補足的聞き取り調査を可能な範囲で行い、日程調整ができれば、メキシコ側共同研究者を日本に招聘して、研究会および報告会を行う。 -
