NH3 emissions from the human body in central Tokyo decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown 査読有り

Atmospheric NH3 is emitted from various sources, such as agriculture, automobile exhaust, industrial activities, and human bodies (dermal and respiratory). Although the contribution from automobile exhaust to NH3 concentrations in urban areas is well understood, the contribution from human body emissions has not been clarified, even in densely populated areas far from agricultural and industrial sources. Tokyo, Japan, is the one of the most populated megacities in the world. During April and May 2020, socioeconomic activities in Tokyo were severely restricted to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), resulting in significant changes in human flow and automobile traffic. The sudden decrease in emissions presented a unique opportunity to clarify the contributions of human body emissions to NH3 levels. NH3 concentrations observed in central Tokyo from 2018 to 2021 decreased significantly, by about 20%, during the lockdown in 2020. No significant differences were found in wind speed or rainfall during the same period. Air quality model simulations of NH3 concentrations in the area were performed for 2019 and 2020. The simulation results for 2019 reproduced the observed NH3 concentrations and temporal variations well. However, the simulation results were overestimated for 2020. To evaluate the differences in emissions' contributions during the lockdown, sensitivity tests of NH3 emissions’ strength were conducted for 2020. The simulation in which NH3 emissions from automobiles and human bodies were reduced by 20% and 80%, respectively, reproduced the observed results well. These results indicate that emissions from human bodies and automobile traffic contribute significantly to NH3 concentrations in central Tokyo. The contributions from human body emissions to NH3 concentrations revealed in this study should be applied to update emissions factors for human bodies; clarifying human emissions factors under various conditions will improve the accuracy of air quality simulations over densely populated megacities.

大気中の揮発性有機化合物（Volatile Organic Compounds: VOCs）は、光化学反応によりオゾンやエアロゾル粒子を生成する原因物質である。近年は人為的な排出量が削減されて都市域での大気濃度は低下しつつあるが、継続的なモニタリングが必要とされている。本研究では、バッテリー駆動で自動的にパッシブサンプラー（VOCs Solvent Desorption: VOC-SD）の曝露と保管が可能なオートサンプラー（VOC Passive Automatic Sampler: VPAS）を開発した。この装置は8本の吸着管を装着できるので、1試料あたり24時間の曝露で7日分のサンプルと1つのブランクを得ることができる。比較のため、キャニスターによる標準手法（24時間採取）との同時観測を1週間行い、トルエンやエチルベンゼン、キシレンについて解析した。吸着管への捕集量と、キャニスターによる大気濃度と曝露時間の積との間には非常に良い直線関係が見られた。取り込み速度は既往研究とほぼ同様の値が得られた。また、採取時間が24時間と比較的長くても、日ごとの濃度の違いが風向頻度の違いに関連付けられることがわかった。今後、種々のVOCに対する大気濃度レベルでの取り込み速度をVPAS用に整備すれば、遠隔地あるいは商用電力の利用できない場所におけるVOC濃度の経時変化や、面的な分布を把握する際に有用である。

To evaluate factors affecting variation in gaseous nitric acid (HNO3) concentrations, including long-range transport from the Asian continent, we conducted continuous observations of HNO3 and related species from April 2016 to October 2017 in a coastal region near Tottori, Japan. HNO3 concentrations and concentration ratios of HNO3 to total odd nitrogen species (HNO3/NOy) during sea-breeze periods exhibited similar seasonal variations, with maximum concentrations during spring–summer and minimum concentrations during autumn–winter. The sea-breeze period concentrations were higher than those during land-breeze periods in spring–summer. Similar diurnal variations for HNO3 concentrations and HNO3/NOy with maximum values occurring during the daytime and minimum values during the nighttime were observed regardless of the season. These seasonal and diurnal variations were attributed to the reaction of NO2 with OH radicals and/or the thermal decomposition of ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3) aerosols. In terms of long-range transport from the Asian continent, a thermal equilibrium of HNO3 and gaseous ammonia (NH3) with NH4NO3 can affect variation of the HNO3 concentration. A chemical thermodynamics evaluation was conducted of the equilibrium of HNO3 and gaseous ammonia with NH4NO3. The concentration of extra ammonium ions was determined by taking into consideration that required for full neutralization of non-sea-salt sulfate in formation of ammonium sulfate, and seasonal variation in the results was evaluated. The results suggested that a thermal equilibrium of HNO3 and NH3 with NH4NO3 transported from the Asian continent could contribute to concentration variations of HNO3 in seasons other than summer.

伊勢湾の北部沿岸に近い愛知県名古屋市南区の名古屋市環境科学調査センター（以下NCIES）と、北に30 km離れた愛知県江南市の滝学園（以下Konan）で、PM2.5中の光学的黒色炭素 (OBC) 濃度を1時間ごとに測定した。規則的な風向変化を示し典型的な海陸風の影響を受けたと考えられる2016年8月4～6日に着目して、2地点間のOBC濃度の差と日変化を考察した。NCIESでのOBC濃度は日中に高くなっていたのに対し、Konanでは顕著な日変化が見られなかった。NCIESでのNO濃度は、朝のラッシュアワーを中心に高濃度であった。ポリテトラフルオロエチレン製テープろ紙の時別スポットを金属元素について化学分析したところ、重油燃焼由来粒子の指標元素であるVとNi濃度は日中に濃度が高くなっていた。CMAQを用いたモデルシミュレーションによる発生源解析の結果は、朝に自動車由来、日中に船舶等による重油燃焼由来の濃度の和が日変化を構成し、2地点間のOBC濃度の差も妥当な傾向を示した。名古屋市南部で夏季にOBC濃度が日中に上昇した原因は、主に湾岸部における重油燃焼の影響と考えられる。

In order to deduce water content of PM2.5 in quasi-real-time, an observation system for hygroscopic characteristics of fine particles by using an optical particle counter (OPC) was developed. Measurements of volume concentrations (V0.3-2.0) from 0.3 to 2.0 μm in diameter to approximate PM2.5 in both dried and ambient (without dried) conditions were conducted at inland and coastal sites located in the south part of Kanto plain, Japan from December 2016. The relationship between relative humidity and hygroscopic change of V0.3-2.0 was analyzed by using hygroscopicity parameters (κv). The mean values of κv were 0.37 and 0.58 at the inland and coastal site, respectively. The mean κv was larger than the value calculated from chemical compositions of PM2.5 based on the simple mixing rule at the coastal site. This result suggests that mixing states and organic species also have important role to determine the hygroscopic behaviors of PM2.5. Since our system is easy to handle without frequent maintenance, it is suitable for simultaneous observation at multiple points for long term. These data will help to obtain representative hygroscopicity parameters of PM2.5 at various regions and seasons.

大気中のガス状NH3と粒子状NH4＋濃度について、名古屋大学構内で20日間程度の連続観測を2011年11月から2016年1月にかけて7回行った。この中で、降雨後に湿度が低下すると同時にNH3濃度が高くなる現象がごくまれに観測された。本研究では、ピーク濃度が680 nmol/m3に達した2015年12月11日の短時間急増イベントについて、気象要素や雨水のイオン成分との関係も含めて、急増をもたらした要因を考察した。12月11日の雨水のイオン成分としては、海塩成分濃度やCa2＋濃度が高く、pHは5.6程度であった。このため、水分の蒸発により雨水中のNH4＋が揮発可能な条件であった。同時に、12月10日夜から11日朝にかけての暖気の流入により、建物の外側の壁面などに露が形成される気象条件であった。しかも、露が形成される際に大気中NH3濃度が高かったので、高NH4＋濃度の露が形成されていたと考えられる。降雨後の湿度低下に伴う水分の蒸発時に、これらの雨水や露からNH3が揮発したために、大気中NH3濃度が急上昇したと考えられる。

Gaseous compounds (NH3 and HNO3) and size-segregated aerosol particles (NH4＋ and NO3-) were measured at Chikushi Campus, Kyusyu University from July 31, 2014 to October 19, 2015. NH3 and fine NH4＋ concentrations were semi-continuously (34 min interval) measured by using a micro flow analytical system. HNO3 and size-segregated aerosol particles were collected for 1 to 3 days intervals by using an annular denuder with a multiple filter set (Nuclepore, PTFE, and Nylon). Intensive sampling (ca. 8 hours interval) was conducted twice from September 24 to October 9, 2014 and from January 7 to 17, 2015. NH3 and HNO3 concentrations were high in warm season, whereas NH4＋ and NO3- concentrations in fine particles were high in cold season. NH3 concentrations were low after rain in the ensuing days and were higher after days without rain. HNO3 concentration during fall experiment was periodically high in daytime under sunny and sea breeze wind conditions, suggesting contribution of local NO2 oxidation to high HNO3 during daytime. Seasonal variations of gas-particle phase relationships of NH3 and HNO3 were discussed in terms of temperature dependence of NH4NO3 equilibrium. Concentration products between NH3 and HNO3 were mostly below equilibrium of NH4NO3 estimated from air temperature during sample collection, suggesting that formation of NH4NO3 was limited during late winter to early spring.

To better understand seasonal variations in the components of PM_〈2.5〉 and related trace gases, and the impacts of long-range transport from the Asian continent to Japan, we analyzed long-term, simultaneous observations of fineand coarse-mode nitrate, related aerosol components (SO_4^〈2-〉, NH_4^+, BC, OC), and trace gases (CO, NH_3, HNO_3) around the Chikushi Campus of Kyushu University, Fukuoka (33.52°N, 130.47°E), from August 2014 to October 2015. Daily and monthly mean aerosol concentrations were analyzed to assess the main seasonal variation in pollution. We found that fine aerosols (fSO_4^〈2-〉, fNO_3^-, and fNH_4^+) explained most of the seasonal change in PM_〈2.5〉. Polarization optical particle counter measurements were useful for detecting the onset of dust transport from the Asian continent, and we observed high concentrations of coarse-mode NO_3^- (cNO_3^-) during dust period, which indicated the formation of dust nitrate during transport. We also analyzed diurnal variation in the basic aerosol components for different seasons, weekday/weekend effects (for CO, BC, and NH3), and sensitivity on days with and without precipitation (for CO, BC, NH_3, PM_〈2.5〉, and PMc). Observational data for HNO_3, fNO_3^-, and cNO_3^- demonstrated that cNO_3^- accounted for the largest proportion of total nitrate (defined as the sum of fNO_3^-, cNO_3^-, and HNO_3), constituting 40–55% of the total nitrate during the winter, whereas HNO_3 gas constituted approximately 40% of the total nitrate in summer and fNO_3^- peaked during the winter.

Atmospheric ammonia (NH_3) plays an important role in the formation and understanding of secondary inorganic aerosols, but has not been examined using chemical transport models (CTMs) and atmospheric levels have not been compared with satellite observations. Here, we analyzed the seasonal variation in atmospheric NH_3 using long-term hourly NH_3/NH_4^+ measurements made at the Chikushi Campus of Kyushu University in Fukuoka, nationwide filter pack (FP) network observations over Japan, GEOS-Chem CTM results, and Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI) satellite retrievals over East Asia. We found that the IASI NH_3 retrieval over central and north China had a strong correlation with the CTM results (R = 0.74). There was a similar correlation over south China, but the IASI NH_3 retrieval was only 48% of the CTM value. CTM results over Japan reproduced the major seasonal variations compared with surface observations, but IASI observations over Japan were below or near the detection limit and it was difficult to obtain a reasonable correlation with measurements.

2015年12月9、10日に名古屋で観測されたPM2.5質量濃度の日内変動が大きい高濃度イベントに対して、PM2.5自動測定機のテープろ紙を用いて3時間ごとに15種類の有機トレーサー成分の測定を行った。植物燃焼とプラスティック燃焼による一次粒子の有機トレーサー成分(レボグルコサンなど)は、PM2.5質量濃度と同じく9日夜間および10日深夜に濃度が上昇した。一方、二次的に生成した有機トレーサー成分(リンゴ酸など)の多くは、一次粒子の有機トレーサーとは異なり、12月10日のピークは見られるものの、9日夜間には明確な濃度ピークが見られなかった。また、PM2.5質量濃度に対する各有機トレーサーの含有率は、一次粒子の有機トレーサー成分の多くがPM2.5質量濃度と類似の時間変化を示した。このため、一次粒子濃度の増加が観測期間のPM2.5高濃度化に寄与したと考えられる。これに対して、二次性成由来の有機トレーサー成分は、12月9日夜間にはその前後の期間に対し含有率が減少する傾向にあり、10日深夜は、他の期間よりコハク酸と3-ヒドロキシグルタル酸のみ含有率が高い傾向にあった。このように、PM2.5の高濃度化現象に対する有機物質の寄与は、一次粒子と二次粒子とで大きく異なっていた。高時間分解能での有機トレーサー成分の解析は、時間変動の大きい高濃度事例の要因を解析するために有用である。(著者抄録)

In order to have a better understanding of Asian scale trans-boundary PM2.5 contribution over western Japan and Japan Sea side area, source-receptor analysis based on the chemical transport model was conducted. We used GEOS Chem model and divided the Asian model domain into 15 major source regions, and the emission intensity sensitivity (source-receptor relationship) was examined. Long-term aerosol observation data at the Chikushi-campus of Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan, from December 2013 to March 2015 was used to validate the model performance. We also confirmed that the numerical model generally captured the observed time variation of PM2.5 at remote islands (Miyakojima, Fukue, Oki, and Sado) quite well. We showed that the contribution of Japanese domestic emission to the annual averaged PM2.5 concentration at Fukuoka was only 20%, and the other 80% of PM2.5 was coming from outside of Japan (19.6% and 16.3% were coming from central north China region and Korea, respectively). Modeled source-receptor ratio in Fukuoka and the observed PM2.5 concentration decrease in Beijing-Tianjin-Shandong area explained the recent decreasing trend of PM2.5 (13% decrease from 2014 to 2016) at Fukuoka.

2013年から2016年にかけて日本の年平均PM2.5濃度は全国的に減少し、環境基準達成率も一般環境測定局で2014年の37.8％から2016年には約88％と大幅に改善された。この理由を、中国での排出量・濃度の減少と化学輸送モデルによるソース・リセプター解析で調べた。中国のPM2.5濃度や衛星計測SO2、NO2濃度は年率約10％で減少し、これは排出量の減少によると考えられた。ソース・リセプター解析は、中国の濃度が20％低下した場合、福岡の年平均濃度の約12％減少を示した。これは2014–2016年にかけての観測された減少量（約10％）に相当していた。中国で、この排出減少率が継続すると1–2年のうちにPM2.5年平均基準を満たす地点が増加し、日本国内でのPM2.5高濃度越境問題は急速に改善に向かうと考えられる。

新規に開発した熱分解/キャビティ減衰位相シフト分光法によるPANs (peroxyacyl nitrates), ONs (有機硝酸エステル，organic nitrates) 連続測定装置を用いて、石川県能登半島珠洲で2012年12月からPANsとONsの測定を行っている。本稿では、PANsとONsの季節変動性に焦点を置いて2012年12月～2013年8月まで解析を行った結果を報告する。PANsとONsは春季に高濃度、夏季に低濃度となる季節変動性を示した。珠洲に到達する気塊を、後方流跡線解析を用いて、ロシア、中国北東、中国・韓国、日本、海由来に分類した。冬季から春季にかけてPANsとONs濃度はともに中国・韓国由来の気塊において高くなっている一方、春季から夏季にかけて濃度の気塊の由来地に対する依存性は見られなくなった。さらに、冬季から春季にかけてPANsとONsは規則的な日内変動を示さないが、春季から夏季にかけてPANsとONsはともに夜間は濃度が低く日中に濃度が高くなる明確な日内変動を示した。このような結果になった原因として、冬季から春季にかけては長距離輸送により、春季から夏季にかけては観測地点近傍での光化学生成反応により、PANsとONs濃度変動が支配される寄与が大きいことが挙げられた。

第46次南極地域観測隊において,高感度ラドン検出器を南極観測船「しらせ」に設置し,2004年12月3日～2005年3月19日まで南極海洋上大気中の^<222>Rn濃度を連続観測した.フリーマントルから昭和基地沖合まで(往路)の15日間,昭和基地沖合からシドニーまで(復路)の38日間を解析した.濃度の平均値は往路が39mBq/m^3,復路が48mBq/m^3であった.日平均した濃度と風速には相関があり,風速が5m/secの場合濃度は32mBq/m^3,13m/secに増加すると62mBq/m^3となった.寒冷前線に伴うラドン濃度増大現象(ラドニックストーム)時の濃度は,往路の事例では70mBq/m^3,復路の事例では114mBq/m^3であった.海洋からの放出量が風速の2乗に比例する条件を与えた全球移流拡散モデルを使ってラドン濃度を計算し,観測された風速依存性の検証を行った.

Ammonia (NH3) in ambient air was measured at Cape Hedo, Okinawa, in spring 2008 using a photo-acoustic spectroscopy method (TGA310, Omnisens). Average concentration and standard deviation (1σ) of NH3 was 0.56±0.50 ppbv. It is considered that the variation in NH3 concentration does not come from the long range transport. The concentration and standard deviation (1σ) of ammonium ion (NH4+) measured using an aerosol mass spectrometer (Q-AMS, Aerodyne) was 2.2±1.4 µgm-3 and NH4+ was more than 80% for NH3+NH4+ when NH4+ was transported over long-range associated with sulfate (SO42-). NH4+ was deficient when SO42-/(SO2+SO42-) was large in air masses.

Volume fraction (ε) of water-soluble material in atmospheric aerosol particles is an important parameter related to hygroscopicity and activation processes to cloud particles. In order to estimate ε of individual coarse dust particles, a confocal scanning laser microscope was applied to direct measurement of volume difference of individual particles before and after water-dialysis using Nuclepore filters (nominal pore size: 0.05 µm) as a collection substrate of an aerosol impaction sampler. Individual particles of Arizona Test Dust (ATD) and reference Asian dusts (CJ-1 and CJ-2) were analyzed for , and their results were combined into 3 size ranges (2-3.4, 3.5-8.4, and 8.5-30 µm) and 2 size ranges (2-3.4 and 3.5-10 µm), respectively. These test dust particles showed various ε ranging from 18% (ATD) to 41% (CJ-1) on the average. More than 50% of the analyzed test dusts particles contained soluble fraction (ε>10%), except the ATD particles of size range 2-3.4 µm which are dominated by particles with insoluble components.

Water-insoluble filtered residue materials of atmospheric wet and dry deposition are composed of mineral dusts and organic materials such as pollens. The number of pollens in the filter residue of deposition samples at Tottori was counted for 2 sizes at about 45 and 30 µm using a confocal laser microscope. Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis was used to measure Fe content of the filter residue. Relationship between Fe content analyzed by XRF and insoluble residue weight corrected for pollen weight assuming pollen density of 0.9 g/cm3 showed a linear relationship, suggesting that insoluble residue corrected for pollen weight contains Fe of 3.7 % by weight on the average. The average Fe content is consistent with the values reported for Asian dust (Kosa) events in Korea and China. Because Fe content of insoluble residue in filter samples is easily measured by XRF method, mineral dust amounts in the filter residue samples can be estimated from Fe content of the sample and the average fraction of Fe for Asian dust.

東京海洋大学「海鷹丸」の南極海研究航海において,大気エアロゾルの光学的厚さ(AOT)の観測を実施した.南極海インド洋セクターでの500 nmでのAOTは,0.02-0.12の範囲であった.南極大陸沿岸域でのAOTは比較的低く,0.02前後であった.40-60゜Sの海域では,0.1以上の値を示すことがあった.インド洋低中緯度帯でのAOTは,0.05-0.15の範囲であった.風速とAOTとに正の相関がみられたことから,南極海では光学的に海塩粒子が卓越し,風速がAOTに影響を及ぼしていると考えられる.AOTが高くなるにつれ,オングストローム指数は減少した.AOTの波長スペクトルにおいて,380 nmと870 nmのAOTはべき関数からずれる傾向がみられた.レイリーの光学的厚さの算出方法を比較したところ,ずれが大幅に改善される可能性が示された.今後,より観測精度を高めていくためには,機器定数の精度を把握するとともに,レイリーの光学的厚さの算出方法の見直しなどが必要である.Aerosol optical thickness (AOT) was measured during Antarctic research cruises of R V Umitaka-Maru. The measured AOTs at 500 nm in the Indian sector of the Antarctic Ocean ranged from 0.02 to 0.12. In Antarctic coastal waters, the AOTs were as low as around 0.05. On the other hand, the some AOTs were higher than 0.1 from 40゜S to 60゜S. In middle and low latitude regions of the Indian Ocean, the AOTs ranged from 0.05 to 0.15. The AOTs were correlated with wind speed. It is indicated that sea-salt particles, generated by wind, dominated optically and wind speed affected the AOT in the Antarctic Ocean. Angstro¨m exponent decreased with increasing AOT. In the AOT wavelength spectra, some AOTs in 380 nm and 870 nm tended to deviate from the power function. Comparing calculation methods of Rayleigh optical thickness suggested a possibility of reducing the deviations of these AOTs. In the future, accuracy check of the instrument constant and review of the calculation method of Rayleigh optical thickness are recommended to enhance the accuracy of maritime AOT measurement.

昭和基地において1996年2月から0.3 μm以上の大粒子の粒径分布,1997年4月から0.01 μm以上の凝結核濃度の連続観測を開始した.2008年12月までの観測結果より,凝結核濃度は夏に高濃度,大粒子は冬に高濃度となる1年周期の変動を繰り返し,経年的に濃度上昇をしている可能性が示唆された.微小粒子濃度,粗大粒子濃度は夏季に低濃度,冬季に高濃度となることに加え,冬期間中の0.3 μm以上の粒子数濃度が7月の前後で約2倍に急上昇していることが示された.

2004年2月〜 2005年1月にかけて昭和基地で直径5-168 nmの粒径分布を連続観測した.粒径分布は,冬に1〜 2のモードから成り,濃度の高いモードは50 nm以上であることが多く,春〜夏や秋には2〜 3のモードから成り,濃度の高いモードは20-80 nm付近にあることが多かった.50 nm以上に谷を持つ粒径分布の出現頻度は,開水面が昭和基地に近い夏〜秋に多かった.一山のみの粒径分布は冬と初夏に多くなり,冬には幅が広く,初夏には幅の狭い分布を示した.初夏から初秋にかけて,10-20 nm付近の核形成モード粒子の濃度が高くなることがあった.11月下旬には,カタバ風の弱くなる午後に核形成モード粒子の濃度が高くなる事例を数日にわたり観測した.

昭和基地で2003-2006年にかけてドリフトや降雪,飛雪のサンプリングをおこない,雪試料の融解水の電気伝導度を測定した.その結果,弱風時にしんしんと降る降雪の電気伝導度は,季節に関係なく数十 μS cm以下の低い値を示したのに対し,強風時の飛雪の電気伝導度は4-7月に数百〜数千 μS cm前後と高く,9月以後には数百 μS cmと低くなる季節変化を示した.昭和基地の風上にあたる北の浦での海氷上積雪量の季節変化と比較検討したところ,風上の海氷が流出すると飛雪の電気伝導度が高くなり,逆に,風上の海氷上に雪が積もると飛雪の電気伝導度が下がることがわかった.これは,飛雪の電気伝導度が海氷からのブラインの影響を強く受けるためだと考えられる.

南極大気中のエアゾロルの季節変動や人為起源エアロゾルの長距離輸送の影響を調べるために,昭和基地において大気エアロゾルを捕集し分析した.測定した化学種は,元素状炭素および有機性炭素,金属成分としてAl,V,Cr,Mn,Fe,Co,Ni,Zn,そしてPbである.元素状炭素の濃度は4-6月にかけて相対的に低く,3月,10月そして11月に高かった.Al,V,Co,Ni,Pbの濃度は検出限界以下であることが多かった.V,Cr,Fe,Co,Ni,Zn,Pbの濃度は8-10月に突出した最高濃度を記録した.人間活動による南極大気中のエアロゾルの組成への影響を評価するため,各金属成分の濃縮係数を計算した.濃縮係数はブリザードが観測された期間に高くなる傾向を示したことから,低気圧擾乱に伴い人為起源エアロゾルを含む気塊が南極大陸まで輸送された可能性が考えられる.

2004-2007年に行ったエアロゾル重点観測中に,昭和基地でヘイズ現象が観測された.ヘイズ現象時は風が比較的弱く,降雪・地吹雪は観測されず,冬〜春にヘイズが出現していた.「南極ヘイズ」時には,バックグラウンド状態と比べてエアロゾル数濃度が1-2桁ほど増加していた.エアロゾル成分のバルク分析から,ヘイズ現象中のエアロゾル主成分は海塩成分(e.g., Na^+, Cl^->)と判明した.流跡線解析とNAAPSモデルから,南アメリカやアフリカ南部でのバイオマス燃焼の影響を受けた空気塊が,南大洋上の低気圧活動に伴って昭和基地まで輸送されていることが示唆された.中低緯度域から極域方向への空気塊流入と,輸送中の海塩粒子の発生と混合とにより,「南極ヘイズ」が出現しているのだろう.バックグラウンド時とヘイズ時のO_3 濃度の差は,冬よりも極夜明け後の春に大きくなる傾向が確認された.不均一反応により海塩粒子から高反応性ハロゲン化合物が放出されることがあるため,極夜明け後の南極沿岸域でのヘイズ現象は,地上O_3 消失現象にも密接に関連している可能性がある.

第46-47次日本南極地域観測隊で,超微小粒子の粒径分布とその揮発特性の連続観測を実施した.夏季には超微小粒子のほとんどは揮発性粒子で,硫酸,メタンスルホン酸,硫酸塩で構成されていた.夏には超微小粒子域の非揮発性粒子の割合は20% だったが,冬季には90% を超すこともあった.冬季の超微小粒子のほとんどは海塩粒子であり,海氷上で組成分別をした海塩粒子も含まれていた.南極大陸内陸部上空から昭和基地(沿岸部)に空気塊が輸送される時には,冬季にも揮発性粒子の割合が減少していた.

第46次日本南極地域観測隊において,係留気球を用いたエアロゾル鉛直分布観測を南極昭和基地で実施した.CN数濃度の季節変化は夏に極大を示す傾向があったが,微小(D_p>0.3 μm)〜粗大(D_p>2.0 μm)粒子数濃度は夏季に低く,冬季に高くなっていた.CN濃度変化の幅は,地上付近では30-2200 cm^<-3> の範囲で変化していたが,自由対流圏(>1500 m)での変化幅は7-7250 cm^<-3> となっていた.夏季の自由対流圏下部では,新粒子生成による高CN数濃度が観測された.地上での新粒子生成イベントが確認されるよりも高い頻度で,南極域の自由対流圏下部において新粒子生成が起きていることが示唆される.また,個別粒子分析の結果から,冬季には,海氷上で起こる組成分別過程によりMgが濃縮されている海塩粒子と,NO_3^<-> やSO_4^<2-> により変質した粒子が多かった.海塩の組成分別過程によるMg濃縮海塩粒子とその変質過程が,冬季のエアロゾル粒子の吸湿特性に大きな影響を及ぼしていることが示唆される.Hara et al.(2010a)で報告されているヘイズ現象は,境界層だけではなく,自由対流圏でも観測されることがあった.

昭和基地(1997-1998,2003-2006; JARE-38-39,JARE-44-47)とドームふじ基地(1997,JARE-38)で,エアロゾル成分と酸性ガスの連続観測を実施した.海塩粒子濃度の季節変化はいずれの基地でも夏季に極小を示し,冬季に濃度が高くなる変化を示した.冬季に海塩粒子濃度が高いのは,低気圧接近に伴う強風による海塩粒子の発生と長距離輸送に起因しているのだろう.昭和基地では,海塩粒子のほとんどが微小粒子域(D_p: 0.2-2.0 μm),超微小粒子域(D_p<0.2 μm)に分布していた.海塩粒子中のCl^- とBr^- は不均一反応により損失しやすく,夏季にCl^- とBr^- の損失が顕著だった.昭和基地で観測されたCl^- Na^+ とBrv Na^+ の各濃度比は,夏季にはそれぞれ約0.5,0まで減少していた.昭和基地では,冬季に海塩粒子はほとんど変質(Cl^- ロス)していなかったが,ドームふじ基地では年間を通じて海塩粒子からのCl^- 損失が確認された.冬季のドームふじ基地では,NO_3^- とその前駆物質により海塩粒子の変質が進行していた.昭和基地でのガス状の無機塩素化合物(主成分はHCl)と臭素化合物(主成分はHBr)の濃度は,それぞれ0.2-9.4 nmol m^<-3>,検出下限以下〜 1.5 nmol m^<-3> だった.海塩組成分別によるSO_4^<2-> 損失は昭和基地だけでなく,内陸のドームふじ基地でも確認された.Mg^<2+> Na^+ の濃度比の季節変化は,低温下で濃度比が高くなる傾向を示した.濃度比の値とその温度依存性から,Mirabilite形成以外の海塩組成分別過程(例えばGypsum,Hydrohaliteの形成)も南極沿岸域で起きていることが示唆される.ドームふじ基地と昭和基地でのMg^<2+> Na^+ 比の季節変化や値が大きく異なっていたことから,内陸部でも積雪表面で海塩組成分別が進行し,風により大気中へ海塩粒子が再飛散している可能性が考えられる.

Black carbon at a coastal Antarctic station (Syowa Station): Seasonal variation and transport processes

Measurement of atmospheric black carbon (BC) was carried out at Syowa Station Antarctica (69°00′S, 39°35′E) from February 2004 until January 2007. The BC concentration at Syowa Station ranged from below detection to 176 ng m -3. Higher BC concentrations were observed frequently from April until October. Increase of BC concentration may be associated with poleward flow due to the approach of a cyclone and/or blocking event during winter-spring. The BC-rich air masses traveled through the lower troposphere from the Atlantic and Indian Oceans to Syowa (Antarctic coast). During the summer (November-February), the BC concentration showed a diurnal variation together with surface wind speed and increased in the presence of katabatic wind from the Antarctic continent. Considering the low BC source strength over the Antarctic continent, the higher BC concentration in the continental air (katabatic wind) might be caused by long range transport of BC via the free troposphere from mid-and low-latitudes. The seasonal variation of BC at Syowa Station had a maximum in July-September, while at the other coastal stations (Halley, Neumayer, and Ferraz) and a continental station (Amundsen-Scott), the maximum occurred in October. This difference may result from different transport pathways, significant contribution of source regions and scavenging of BC by precipitation during the transport from the source regions. During the austral summer, long-range transport of BC via the free troposphere is likely to make an important contribution to the ambient BC concentration along the Antarctic coasts. © 2010 National Institute of Polar Research.

Observations of aerosol constituents and acidic gases were carried out at Syowa Station (1997-1998 and 2003-2006; JARE-38∼39, and JARE-44∼47) and Dome Fuji Station (1997, JARE-38). Seasonal variations and size distribution of sea-salt particles were compared between coastal and inland stations. Seasonal variations of the concentrations of sea-salt particles showed a minimum in the austral summer and higher during the winter at both stations due to strong winds and long-range transport. Sea-salt particles were mostly distributed in fine (D p: 0.2-2.0 μm) and ultra-fine (D p<0.2μm) modes at Syowa Station. Particulate Cl - and Br - are liberated preferentially from sea-salt particles through the heterogeneous reactions at Syowa and Dome Fuji Stations in the summer. The molar ratio of Cl -/Na + and Br -/Na + at Syowa Station decreased to ca. 0.5 and ≈0, respectively, in summer. Fewer sea-salt particles were modified at Syowa Station during the winter, whereas sea-salt particles were modified through the year at Dome Fuji Station. In particular, sea-salt particles were modified with NO 3- and its precursors at Dome Fuji Station during the winter. The concentrations of gaseous inorganic chlorine species (mostly HC1) and bromine species at Syowa Station were 0.2-9.4 nmol m -3 and below the detection limit (BDL)-1.5 nmol m -3, respectively. Sea-salt fractionation (SO 42- depletion) due to Mirabilite formation was identified not only at Syowa Station but also at Dome Fuji Station. Seasonal variation of molar ratio of Mg 2+/Na + showed higher ratios at lower temperature. The range and temperature dependence of Mg 2+/Na + strongly suggested that other seasalt fractionation (e.g., formation of gypsum and hydrohalite) occurred in the Antarctic coasts in addition to Mirabilite formation. Because of different seasonal variation and range of Mg 2+/Na + between Dome Fuji and Syowa Stations, sea-salt fractionation may proceed even in the inland area. © 2010 National Institute of Polar Research.

Concentrations of condensation nuclei (>0.01 μm in diameter) and of aerosol particles larger than 0.3 μm in diameter were monitored at Syowa Station from February, 1996. Number concentrations of condensation nucleus were high in summer and low in winter. Concentrations increased at the rate of several partcles/cm 3 per year. On the other hand, the concentrations of fine particles (>0.3μm) and coarse particles (>1.0μm) were low in summer and high in winter. Samples of fallen snow, drifting snow and deposited snow were obtained at Syowa Station from April 2003 to October 2006. Electroconductivity of the meltwater was measured. The electroconductivities of the samples for the fallen snow under weak wind condition were mostly below several tens of μS/cm, whereas much higher values were obtained for the drifting snow samples under strong wind condition with seasonal variation: maximum (several hundred to thousands) in April to July, then decreasing to a few hundred after September. Higher electro conductivities of the drifting snow samples correlated well with breakup of sea ice windward of Syowa Station. Lower values were obtained after snow accumulated on sea ice at Kita-no-ura, windward bay area north-east and offshore of Syowa Station. These suggest that brine from sea ice changes the electroconductivity of drifting snow. © 2010 National Institute of Polar Research.
