This study analyzes the function of revolutionary dance in the later films of Zhang Yimou, a filmmaker with an international reputation. Recently, the dances danced during the Cultural Revolution in China have become strange symbols that represent this period in Chinese history. For instance, in Zhang's Coming Home, the lead in the ballet The Red Detachment of Women poses in arabesque, an attitude found in classical ballet, holding a gun at the ready. This is a rather peculiar stance. Additionally, her vivid red costume and her black hair in one braid meet the Western gaze as the Oriental Other, that is, in the category of Exotic China. Dandan, the daughter of Lu Yanxi and Wanyu, the hero and the heroine of this film, informs the authorities of her father's hideout and breaks up the family in exchange for getting a lead role in a revolutionary dance program. This storyline is a representative pattern of the disruption of the family during the Cultural Revolution. Later, a few decades after the Cultural Revolution, Dandan tries to bring back her mother's memory by dancing the lead role. Wanyu, however, does not react to her performance, forming a contrast to the enthusiasm of Chinese people from days gone by. Zhang Yimou, a director who has achieved fame in the mainstream world film industry, shows the collapse of a family that became irrecoverably lost even after being politically rehabilitated. Thus, the revolutionary dance scenes in Zhang Yimou's films increase the effect of meeting Orientalism and showing the negative history of China with the technique of exhibitionism, as Ray Chow puts it. Coming Home rejects any denouement of the type commonly seen in Hollywood films.

This paper analyzes the relationship between women's sport education and the show business in the 1920th China. In the late the 1910s, bound feet, which had been a criterion for beauty, became the symbol of backwardness and the healthy beauty replaced them. In the next decade, when the modern school system was built, a lot of women's sports school were established one after another. It was the physical education thought of Cai Yuanpei, Father of Education in Republic of China, that enhanced the educational institutions of women's sports. Meantime, Li Jinhui, a well-known composer of popular music as well as a showman, founded Chinese singing and dancing school and the school for beauty. Li's schools belong under the category of actress's training institute. However, they as with women's sports school can be categorized within the educational constitution to train the female body to be suitable for modern age, since Li had become acquainted with Cai at the music workshop of Beijing University and entered Cai's thought with the emphasis on physical education for intelligence. Moreover, this reasoning is supported by the fact that both bodies of sports women and dancing women were popular in the visual media, such as pictorial magazine or comic magazine.

本文通过对«申报»及其它资料的分析，再现战争时期身居上海的吴晓邦的舞蹈活动的具体状况，也同时呈现出其活动与当时的话剧人之间的网络景象。从而把抗战舞蹈这一相对容易被忽视的艺术活动定位于抗战演剧之大流中来加以探讨。吴晓邦在其自传«我的舞蹈艺术生涯»中，对于若干事实的发生时期的记述较为暧昧，所以本文依据«申报»的报道文章来确定其具体时期。吴晓邦曾三次赴日本学习舞蹈，其间认识了数位话剧人并结为好友。1933年吴回国后在上海开办了晓邦舞蹈研究所，同时在上海剧院楽剧训练所教授舞蹈，还为业余实验剧团担当舞蹈顾问。七七事变后，吴晓邦参加了救亡演剧队第四队长达半年，临到改组时脱离演剧队，应中法剧艺学校的邀请，导演了上海剧艺社的舞蹈剧。1939年上演的舞蹈剧«罂粟花»特别受欢迎。吴晓邦的妻子盛婕此时还是中法剧艺学校的学生，同时也是上海剧艺社的女演员。之后至1940年代，在各地举办的吴晓邦抗战舞蹈也不仅是凭借他的个人能力，而都是在此之前的上海时期所培养的人际关系基础上实现的。

本報告は、現代台湾人作家と舞踊言語との共鳴、台湾コンテンポラリー・ダンスの国際的な普遍性とを、林懐民（1947嘉義-）と李昂（1952鹿港－）に着目して検討するものである。まず舞踊言語を生んだモダン・ダンス―林懐民のコンテンポラリー・ダンスの源流―と政治権力との歴史的関係を、ドイツと台湾について概観した。次に林懐民と李昂の作家としてのスタートを踏まえて、林の舞踊言語の扱い方、李昂の蔡瑞月に関する発言を検討する。最後に、なぜ台湾コンテンポラリー・ダンスが国際的発信力を持ちえているのか、目下の見解を報告した。

This paper examines how the dancer Xiao-bang Wu sought a path through the conflict between the Empire of Japan and China from 1938 to 1941. It seems a remarkable instance of both ambivalent and adaptability that Wu later used the dance he had studied in Japan for anti-Japanese activities. This paper focuses on Wu's anti-Japanese activities at the Chinese-French drama school in Shanghai and the Charity School in Chongqing, paying attention to his connection with other artists, and analyzes his creations during that period. Finally, some consideration is given to how Wu took advantage of his study in Japan for his activities.

本報告は、後に中国のバレエ／モダンダンス界をけん引することになる中国人舞踊家戴愛蓮（1916-2006、中国中央バレエ団初代バレエ・ミストレス）及び呉暁邦（1906－1995、現代舞踊研究所「天馬芸術舞踏工作室」主催、中国舞踊家協会主席などを歴任）の舞踊活動に照らし、日中戦争前後において、上海ライシャム劇場で踊るという意味を考察するものである。1940年、トリニダード・トバゴ華僑の戴愛蓮は、抗日活動のために香港へ渡って来た。ロンドンで元ディアギレフ・バレエ・リュスのスター・ダンサーに学び、次いでドイツ表現舞踊の薫陶を受け、舞台での実践をも積んだ彼女は、上海バレエ・リュスのダンサーを凌駕する正統派の舞踊家であった。しかし戴愛蓮は上海を避け、抗日活動に従事する文化人がしばしばたどったコースに従い、香港から桂林、重慶と移動し、抗日義捐金舞踏会を開き、抗日舞踊教育に従事した。一方、呉暁邦は１９３０年代初め留学先の東京でモダンダンサーを志し、ドイツ表現舞踊の流れをくむ高田せい子、江口隆哉、宮操子に創作舞踊を学び、日比谷公会堂で舞台に立った。帰国後、彼は１９３５年上海に舞踊研究所を開き、前後してライシャム劇場で処女公演を開いたという説もあるが、資料及び周辺状況からこの情報は誤りであると考えられる。彼は「孤島」の中仏劇専で学生たちに抗日舞踊を指導していたが、1939年以降、戴と同様に桂林、重慶と移動して舞踊により抗日宣伝をし、各地の舞踊学校で指導した。このように、後に中国舞踊界の重鎮になった両者にとって、日中戦争期のライシャム劇場は踊るべき場ではなかった。一方、上海に残った中国人「舞女」たちにとって、「蘭心」で踊ることはステイタスが高かった。また中国におけるバレエ／モダン舞踊の移入という観点でいえば、その受容の中心は上海ではなく、華僑及び留学経験者により国統区にて展開されたと言えるのではないか。戦後解散した上海バレエ・リュスと入れ替わるように１９４７年戴愛蓮振付のバレエがライシャム劇場で上演されたことに象徴される通り、戴／呉の流れが国立舞踊学校設立に至っている。

台湾現代舞踊家として国際的評価の高い林懐民は、かつて小説家であった。彼の振りつけるコンテンポラリーの一分野は臺灣史をモチーフとし、台湾史の記憶の層を、音声代わりに台湾語、普通語、客家語を用い、それらを舞踊言語により表現していく。本発表では林懐民の創作背景を踏まえたうえで、彼のコンテンポラリー作品「家族合唱」の一部を解釈する。

The Influence of Madame Mao on Revolutionary Ballet in China International conference

Generally, Jiang Qing (Madame Mao) held absolute control over National Ballet of China during the Cultural Revolution, in spite of her lack of knowledge about ballet. She changed various elements of the repertoire that she regarded as representative of a decadent bourgeoisie and sent many dancers to concentration camps. Particularly in Red Detachment of Women, Chinese Red Army, Jiang Qing gave orders about details related to the music, scenes, choreography, costumes, characters, and casting for certain roles.. There is actually no notable research on Jiang Qing's influence on Red Detachment of Women from the perspective of dance history. Thus, this paper offers criticism of the changes in Chinese ballet resulting from the control of Jiang Qing. First, we follow her education in the performing arts in her youth and her career as an actress in Shanghai in the 1930s. Then, we analyze her motives for changing the stage effects of Red Detachment of Women. Finally, we discuss how this work was used as a medium for political activism during the Cultural Revolution in China and how it was accepted in other countries.

大日本帝国下の女性創作：張愛玲と崔承喜の接点

1944年、第三回大東亜文学者大会参加を断った作家・張愛玲は、日本軍慰問に来た“半島の舞姫”崔承喜を囲む上海女作家の座談会に出席したが、崔とは話さなかった。張は随筆「ダンスを語る」でバレエ、タイ、インド民族舞踊、日本の東宝舞踊団まで言及しながら、崔承喜の舞踏は黙殺した。従って、張愛玲は崔承喜の身の処し方に異論があったとも解釈できる。では、帝国下で張と崔の創作は如何に位置づけられるか。張愛玲小説は、傀儡政権下の上海で咲き誇った徒花であった。それは、崩壊した「家」から暴かれた女性の生を語って熱狂的な支持を得た。いっぽう崔承喜は、帝国文化の国際的顕示を担いつつ、朝鮮舞踊の国際化を狙った。また張と崔いずれも、美貌と肢体を戦略的に利用していた。帝国下における被抑圧側の作家、舞踊家として、張と崔の創作はいずれもアイデンティティの模索／アピールであり、女性であることが有効な手段だったのである。

抗日舞踊における呉暁邦：ドイツ表現舞踊の受容を中心に

本論は、中国人モダン・ダンサー呉暁邦（1906-1995）について1929-35年の東京の舞踊文化に注意しつつ、東京と上海の間を三度往復した呉暁邦の目的と、彼が東京の舞踊界から吸収したものを考察する。
　1929年、呉暁邦は早大近くの語学学校に留学したところ、大隈講堂でのダンス公演によってモダン・ダンスと出会う。呉暁邦は高田雅夫舞踏研究所でバレエとモダン・バレエを習う。1931年彼は一度帰国し、上海四川北路に暁邦舞踏学校を設立するが、翌年東京へ戻り、高田舞踊研究所で学び続けた。なぜ抗日の気風の中、彼は東京へ戻ったのか。実は日中戦争が始まると、抗日のために日本を知り日本を倒そうという「日本研究ブーム」で、日本留学する中国人留学生は増えたという状況があり、呉暁邦の動きもその流れと考えられる。1934年、呉暁邦は帰国し第一回創作発表会を上海で開いたが、まだ中国民衆に彼の創作舞踊は受け入れられなかった。彼が翌年三たび東京へ渡った理由は二つ考えられる。一、宮操子、江口隆哉がドイツ留学を終えて1934年帰国し開いた現代舞踊研究所で学ぶため。二、イギリスのLieth Roth の幣制改革が功を奏して国民政府の法幣が安定し、東京で楽に暮らせたためである。呉暁邦は宮・江口からヴィグマンの表現舞踊を学ぶことができた。1936年には高田研究所の日比谷公会堂における発表会で、呉暁邦も創作を披露している。この年帰国した彼は、舞踊という手段で抗日活動および教育に励むようになる。呉暁邦は日本の侵略に対抗して中国の民衆の精神を舞踊で奮い立たせようという目的により、舞踊家を志した。だが彼が選んだのはドイツの表現舞踊であり、日本留学であった。なぜなら、当時上海ではロシアン・バレエが主流で、さらにナチスへの反感が高まり基本的にドイツ舞踊が学べなかったのに対し、東京ではそれが可能だったからである。

Artistic Activities of the China Defense League and its Role as the Center of the Artistic Sphere in Chongqing International conference

After the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War in 1937, Soong Ching-Ling , the wife of Sun Yatsen, founded the China Defense League in Hong Kong in June 1938. Until the Japanese occupied Hong Kong in December 1941, this institution vigorously engaged in donation activities for the benefit of the International Peace Hospital and homes for war orphans, particularly in the communist-controlled areas in Mainland China. In addition, it supported and advertised anti-Japanese demonstrations. The institution's original members included James M. Bertram, Liao Cheng-Zhi,Israel Epstein, and certain foreign journalists and bankers. However, only biographers of Soong Ching-Ling have mentioned the 1eague's activities, and little notable research exists about these activities. This presentation focuses on the charity concerts organized by the China Defense League in Hong Kong and Chongqing in the 1940s. Specifically, it discusses how the league combined its efforts with various artists such as ballet dancer Aileen Dai , cartoonist Qian-Yu Ye, and bass opera singer Yi-Kwei Sze , Moreover, through these activities, the league worked with the political department of the Military Committee of Kuomindang. The information contained in this presentation is mainly based on these artists' reminiscences and sources such as a communist newspaper, Xinhua ribao (New China Daily), founded by Zhou Enlai , and other sources printed in the areas not occupied by Japan. Subsequently, it explores how the league's artistic activities influenced the history of Chinese modern dance and classical music following the war.

Dance as a Cross-Cultural Media: Xiao-bang Wu's life between Tokyo and Shanghai in the 1930s International conference

This paper focuses on a Chinese modern dancer Xiao-bang Wu, who had studied
German modern dance in Tokyo in the 1930s. We analyze the reasons for Wu's three
visits to Tokyo. In sum, Xiao-bang Wu decided to be a dancer to raise Chinese people's
resistance to Japan through his dances. In spite of this aim, he continued to study in the
enemy nation of Japan, since Tokyo was a more advanced city for modern dance than Shanghai at
the time. Furthermore, Xiao-bang Wu was a witness to part of the modern sphere of the Western
world; the auditoriums in Tokyo.

The Origin of Classical Ballet in China through the Narrative of Cross-cultural Influence. International conference

The origin of classical ballet in Mainland China is commonly held to have started with the founding of the Beijing Dance Institute in 1954, with Aileen Dai assumed to be the first principal, and subsequently with the establishment of the National Ballet of China in 1959 where some of the ballet masters from the Soviet Union created a solid foundation for classical ballet in the company. However, in relation to the view put forward by Susan Munning from North-Western University that the narrative of cross-cultural influence questions the historiography of modern dance premised on the nation-state, similarly classical ballet in China cannot be explained by studying its spread in Mainland China only. This paper explains the origin of classical ballet in China from a global and intercultural perspective. In other words, we attempt to examine the early history of Chinese ballet as a cultural exchange though the involvement of Aileen Dai. Aileen Dai was born in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in 1916. She started taking ballet classes there before moving to London to study the Cecchetti method. In London, she was also influenced by German modern dance, and several years later she went to China via Hong Kong to dance in different areas of the country in efforts by the Communist Party of China to raise donations to fund the Anti-Japanese war. Thus, it can be said that classical ballet in China has its roots in a cross-cultural body of dance influenced from overseas.

將朱天心的小說〈古都〉（1997）中的「記憶」作為關鍵詞來理解，已經為眾多的日台論者加以論述。就這部小説而言，借用黃英哲的話來說是「在將自己的記憶再構築的過程中，對於集團記憶和失憶，需要特別的観察和追問」。本文將繼承這一論說的宗旨，根據Maurice Halbwachs的關於記憶的解釋，將與「外公婆」、「女兒」以及川端康成〈古都〉相關的事項為index（索引），繼續嘗試解讀朱天心的〈古都〉。
