    電荷注入がなされた半導体や金属において、遷移先(元)の準位がフェルミ準位の近傍となる遷移では、励起される正孔(電子)がフェルミ準位近傍の多くの電子(正孔)と結合し、遷移強度の発散的な増大が起こり得ます。これをフェルミ端特異性とよびます。近年、単層グラフェンや単層遷移金属ダイカルコゲナイドなどの原子一層から数層程度からなる原子層物質を対象とした実験が広く行われるようになりました。本研究では、二次元性が極めて高い原子層物質においてフェルミ端特異性がどのくらい強く現れるのか、室温でも観測されるのか、について調べます。

    単層グラフェン(Gr)における光キャリアの高速緩和を活用した過飽和吸収や光スイッチングが検討されており、実際に素子の作製が行われている。さらなる高速動作のためには、光キャリア緩和を律速するホットフォノンボトルネックの軽減が望まれる。本研究では光キャリアと基板との相互作用による基板へのエネルギー流出に注目した。エピタキシャルGrは全面的に基板と接触しており、転写Grと比べて基板との相互作用が強いことが予想される。
    領域内研究グループからSiC上のエピタキシャルGrと転写Grを提供いただき、発光アップコンバージョン測定を行った。その結果、遷移エネルギー0.7 eVにおけるエピタキシャルGrの発光減衰が、転写Grのそれよりも高速であることがわかった。この結果は、観測帯域におけるエピタキシャルGrのキャリア分布がより高速に緩和することを示している。キャリア冷却のモデル計算により実験結果を再現し、Grのキャリアと基板のフォノンとの相互作用の強さを評価した。

    カーボンナノチューブ(CNT)に内包された分子の配列制御は、分子の集団的な機能発現や効率的な重合反応の面から重要である。一方、二次元表面へのパイ電子分子の吸着では、絶縁体基板と金属基板の違いによって分子配列が異なることが知られている。本研究ではこの知見をもとに、CNTの電子状態と内包分子の配列との関係に注目した。
    パイ電子分子であるペリレンを半導体的・金属的CNTに内包し、分光測定により分子配列を調べた。その結果、半導体的CNTでは分子面がチューブ軸に対して傾き、金属的CNTでは分子面がチューブ軸に対して平行であることが示唆された。領域内研究グループの第一原理計算によってこれらの配列は支持された。半導体的CNTと金属的CNTでは、ペリレンとCNTの間にはたらくファンデルワールス力の大きさが異なることにより、配列の違いは説明される。
