大規模集積回路（LSI）にフェムト秒レーザー光を照射した際、局所電界に比例したテラヘルツ波が後方散乱で発生することを候補者らは見出し、非接触でのLSI故障解析の道を拓いた。LSIの故障診断技術は各種提案されているが、本方式は断線検査のみでなく、pn接合やショットキー接合の内蔵電界も無バイアスで非接触測定が可能であり、その点において従来にない新しい解析手法として注目されている。
