Local thermal sensation and comfort during bathing in the winter season were investigated. A framework for psychological evaluation during bathing was clarified; the problems with using the thermal sensation scale used for the evaluation of air-conditioning systems were pointed out. During half-body bathing when the upper body temperature was low, it was possible for the upper and lower body to sense their respective thermal environment; when the upper body temperature was neutral, however, the perception of upper body temperature and comfort was influenced by the temperature of the lower body. Moreover, because most of the body is exposed to hot water during whole-body bathing, the local thermal sensations become almost indistinguishable. Since the words used in the usual thermal sensation scale could not adequately express the sensations of the various immersed body parts, it was easier to express thermal sensation for the whole body than for various body parts. Also, the whole body thermal sensation appeared to be the sum of the upper and lower thermal sensations. Therefore, it is thought the local thermal sensation scale should be changed to accommodate immersed and non-immersed body parts for a more accurate psychological evaluation.

In this paper, we analyzed the children's play during recess in a elementary school, at especially courtyard on the examination from the one-year. The thermal environment of courtyard is different from the environment of playground by the materials of ground and the influence of sunlight reflected by the surrounding walls. And courtyard is the important place for outdoor playground taken place with school ground for lower classes' children. Moreover, we clarified courtyard is the really interesting playground in the point of interchanges between different age children and diversity of kind of play. Play at courtyard is related with air temperature, sunshine and wind velocity, especially wind over 2m/s disturbs play in all seasons. So we need to hold strong wind in planning for courtyard. And we found children select between shine or shadow at courtyard. So it's important to layout properly sun and shadow area at courtyard

We investigated psychological responses of students in a lecture room to examine whether indoor environment was kept well with all-air induction radiant air-conditioning system in winter. We carried out the questioner survey twice at the start and end of lecture to avoid disturbing the lecture. The results showed that the ratio of the comfortable side ("Neutral" - "very comfortable") was more than 80% at the end of lecture, although the room temperature at 600mm above the floor rose 2.0-3.4ºC in 90 minutes from the lecture start to end. Also, from the relationship between SET* and psychological responses (satisfied, appropriate and comfortable sensation), it was suggested that more than 70% of students felt the condition of lecture room appropriate as the learning environment, if the room temperature would be controlled as SET* targeted 25.2ºC and 26.8ºC at the start of 1st class and 3rd class, respectively.

By the cooling effect of trees in the park, the air temperature is usually to lower than that in built-up areas. The targeted campus has been planned to introduce cool breezes form an urban large-scale park as one of the energy-saving techniques. To evaluate the cooling effect, the measurements and CFD simulations were carried out. This paper, the cooling effect by the urban large-scale park was quantitatively discussed.

Meijo Koen Campus of Aich Gakuin University introduces various advanced technologies to offer comfortable learning field and achieve a low carbon campus. To realize this target, setting of appropriate target and condition at planning phase and optimal design considering sufficiently how to use the facilities and building thermal load are required. At the same time commissioning of performance is indispensable for the system to show an expected potential. Under above mentioned background, the energy consumption, performance of heat source system and secondary side system and the indoor/outdoor environment are analyzed in this study. In this paper, energy consumption and CO2 emission of whole campus and performance of central heat source system for one year after beginning of operation were presented.

We investigated indoor thermal environment and air movement through the stairs in the library with all-air induction radiant air-conditioning system in winter. The results show that hanging partition wall, shielding plate and decrease of exhaust air at the 2nd floor restrain the rise of heated air from the 1st floor to the 2nd and improve the vertical temperature distribution. In addition, it is necessary to decrease the fall of cold air into the downstairs at the same time.

We investigated psychological responses of students and thermal environment in a lecture room with all-air induction radiant air-conditioning system in summer. The results show that the rate of vote in hot and uncomfortable side decreased, although room temperature rose 0.8-1.4oC for 90 minutes of a class. The rate of vote in the appropriate side becomes more than 70% if the room temperature is controlled from 24 to 26oC in the morning classes and is controlled from 25.5 to 26.5oC in the afternoon classes.

A Study on the Method of Window Opening to Use Cross Ventilation Efficiently in Housing Open Access

This paper aims to suggest a pattern for opening windows to keep the indoor thermal environment acceptable by cross ventilation in summer. Using the ratio of opening area on south and north side Ss/(Ss+Sn) as the parameter, the influence on thermal environment is evaluated by thermal and airflow network model NETS. From the subjective experiment conducted in summer 2013, 80% of subjects could accept the indoor thermal environment when the value of PMV was below 1.67 under the condition of cross ventilation, then this value is used as the upper limit to use cross ventilation. The results of NETS show that cross ventilation rate is influenced by Ss/(Ss+Sn) though the ratio of Ss+Sn to floor area is fixed, and cross ventilation rate calculated on whole housing is maximum at 50% of Ss/(Ss+Sn). Then, we suggest that the appropriate pattern for opening windows makes the value of PMV decrease. In summer, if occupants use cross ventilation in case of PMV below 1.67 and air conditioner in case of PMV over 1.67, it is possible to shorten the time of using air conditioner 1 hour in a single room at the opening pattern of Ss/(Ss+Sn)=61% from Ss/(Ss+Sn)=18%.

A Study on the Evaluation of Thermal Comfort in a Hospital Room with All-air Induction Radiant Air-conditioning System in Winter Open Access

We investigated physiological and psychological responses in a hospital room with all-air induction radiant air-conditioning system in winter. Four subjects of patient role sat on a bed with futon over waist for the first 60 minutes. After that, they lay down on a bed with futon over shoulder for 30 minutes. The results show that there were many votes around neutral on 'cold - hot' scale and many votes in warm side on 'cool - warm' scale at 20 to 25oC in both sitting position and bedtime attitude. The desire of room temperature becomes 'no change' at around 23 to 24oC in the sitting position and at 19 to 20oC in bedtime attitude. Also, in the sitting position, the rate of 'no change' on the desire of room temperature and 'very satisfied' on the degree of satisfaction becomes higher when SET* is 23 to 24oC, and in bedtime attitude, the desire of room temperature becomes`no change' and no one has dissatisfaction when SET* is 19 to 20oC.

It is intended to investigate the influence on human body by the superheated steam sauna with a subject experiment. It continually measured physiological response such as skin temperature, sweat production, cutaneous blood flow and so on, and made a declaration on psychological response such as thermal sensation, thermal comfort and so on. The thermal sweating and cutaneous blood flow rose rapidly after entering the sauna room in 10 minutes and showed a mean skin temperature rise of 2 degrees Celsius. Either subjects approximately equally reported "hot" on thermal sensation, but there was the tendency that their evaluation on thermal comfort and satisfaction did not agree because of the preference for sauna or relatively light load of superheated steam sauna.

In this paper, we show the results of field survey about the fresh air introduction in office space adopted with multi-sprit type air-conditioning system. The results showed the trend that the total heat exchanger inhaled the supply air from indoor units in the heating period. They also showed the number of days that daily-averaged indoor CO2 density exceeded 1,000ppm was increased according to outside temperature in the cooling period, and the number was more than that of the heating period. Therefore, there is the possibility that ventilation is not performed well in the cooling period.

Study on the Thermal Comfort of the ventilated car seat in Summer Open Access

In this paper the ventilated car seat was tested that was designed for both increasing thermal comfort and saving energy on hot summer days. Supplied air was blown from the car interior through the seat toward the back of the seated person. A subjective experiment was conducted. Even in the neutral air temperature, 25℃, thermal comfort was more increased by the seat ventilation. Thermal comfort in the condition of 28℃ air temperature with the seat ventilation was nearly the same as 25℃ without the seat ventilation. As such it was confirmed that this system was effective in energy saving.

The influence of continual half body bathing and shower was compared by subjects who were sensitive to cold. The change of skin temperature according to the room temperature was inspected. It declared that there were the different trends on the changes of peripheral skin temperature and peripheral thermal sensation between both groups who carried out the prescribed bathing for 60 days. The group of half body bathing showed the possibility of modification in the blood vessel contraction/expansion response at the peripheral part according to the temperature change of environment.
