    層状三角格子系LiVS2では、低温でバナジウムが自発的に集合した三量体「分子」の形成を生じる。高温に上げると、この三量体分子は消失し、レギュラーな三角格子が復活するものと考えられてきたが、最近の我々の研究により、このバナジウムの三角格子の内部において、数100nm程度の相関長を持つジグザグ鎖状の分子が出現し、配向を変えながらゆっくりと揺らいでいることがわかってきた。三角格子の中に潜むジグザグ鎖状の超秩序構造が示すダイナミクスと、温度変化に伴う相関長の変化を、時分割ナノビームX線回折法を用いて明らかにすることが本研究の目的である。

    We performed an experiment at BL36XU in SPring-8 to observe the lattice dynamics of vanadium chalcogenides, which have inorganic soft matter properties, by using time-resolved EXAFS measurements with deflected X-rays. We found that the spectra show a change with a period of about 0.6 s, which is consistent with the expected lattice dynamics. This result seems to capture the expected lattice dynamics, but contrary to our expectation, the change in the spectrum is periodic and there is no temperature dependence in the obtained spectrum, which is contrary to our expectation. We are currently analyzing the results and hope to clarify the nature of this feature in the future and prepare for submission of the paper.

    本課題では申請者が二次元三角格子系LiVS2で最近見出した、柔粘性結晶相発現の背景物理の解明と、同様の性質を示す新たな物質系の開発を目指す。LiVS2は314 K以下でバナジウム三量体化を伴う金属-非磁性絶縁体転移を示す。高温常磁性相では、バナジウムがジグザグ状の短距離秩序を形成しており、このジグザグ鎖の形成パターンが時間・空間的にゆっくりと変動する。ジグザグ鎖のパターンは3種類存在し、これらの配向はすべて異なることから、この格子ダイナミクスは無機化合物で実現した柔粘性結晶状態と定義される。同様の『無機柔粘性結晶』の新たな候補物質の開発を通じて、その発現メカニズムを明らかにすることを目指す。
    無機柔粘性結晶としての性質を示す新たな候補材料開発において大きな進展があった。スピネル化合物のLiRh2O4に着目し、放射光X線と中性子を相補的に用いた回折実験を行った。この物質は、約220 KでBand Jahn-Teller転移を示し、構造が立方晶から正方晶に変化した後、170 Kで金属絶縁体転移を示し、低温相は直方晶となることが報告されている。低温相においては電荷秩序を伴う量体化が期待され、中間温度相と高温相において柔粘性結晶的な格子ダイナミクスが期待される。我々は、放射光X線回折による平均構造解析と局所構造解析、中性子PDFによる局所構造解析を行い、得られたデータを対称性の議論をもとに整理することで、低温相における電荷秩序・量体化パターンが、有名なマグネタイトのVerwey転移を説明するために理論予想された「Anderson条件」と全く同じパターンを実現していることを明らかにした。また、この低温相の構造をベースとした放射光X線PDF解析により、中間温度相と高温相において無機柔粘性結晶を示唆すると思われる格子の低対称化が現れていることを明らかにした。以上の結果は、申請者を責任著者としてPhysical Review Bにletterとして掲載された。他にも本年度の活動の成果として、RuPやLiVSe2など、新たな候補物質を対象とした放射光X線構造研究が順調であり、柔粘性結晶候補物質となりうると期待している。以上のように、候補物質開拓には大きな成果が得られており、最終年度に向けて順調に研究が進められている。
    研究実績の概要で述べたように、候補物質の開拓という点においては期待以上の成果が得られたと考えている。一方で、LiVS2については、単結晶試料の育成には成功したものの、柔粘性結晶状態の示す格子ダイナミクスを定量的に同定するには至っておらず、最終年度に持ち越しとなった。以上の結果を踏まえて、(2) おおむね順調に進展している。が妥当であると判断した。
    本年度に明らかにした柔粘性結晶候補物質については、その特性や揺らぎの詳細を構造解析や物性測定などにより多角的に検証することで明らかにしていきたい。最終年度となることから、得られた成果については積極的に論文化を進め、本研究のまとめとする。LiVS2については、周波数依存性を伝導性から明らかにするなど、残された研究目的を実施することを目指す。

    We have constructed a comprehensive pressure-temperature phase diagram of the excitonic insulator Ta2NiSe5. In particular, a partial gap involving electron-lattice interaction appears in the high-pressure semimetallic phase, and superconductivity emerges around a critical pressure where the collapse of the gap is observed. We have also discovered pressure-induced superconductivity in BiS2-based layered compounds located near the semiconductor-semimetal transition and observed the similar phase diagram for Ta2NiSe5.

    LixVS2 systems show various structural transitions in low temperature accomapnied by the cluster formation accompanied by a large entropy change. In order to take advantage of the entropy change as a novel solid refregerating material, which can be obtained by using Li ion battery reactions, we investigated the Li battery applications and also studied the physical properties of each electric phases. As a result, we cannot attain a large entropy change by Li (de)intercalation process, we successfully identified novel electric phase of Li0.33VS2, where the linear vanadium trimer formation appears accompanied by a large entropy change. We reported the results as a paper and attained the patent relating to the material.

    We have improved the functionality and elucidated the mechanism of negative thermal expansion (NTE) in Ca2RuO4-y, which shows a huge NTE due to the material microstructural effects consisting of anisotropic thermal deformation of crystal grains and voids. By substituting Ru with Fe or Sn, the operating-temperature range could be expanded while maintaining the volume change related to NTE. Detailed electron diffraction and synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction experiments have shown that the alignment and melting of electron orbitals associated with the previously overlooked monoclinic strain is essentially important. We found the Cu2V2O7 system as a NTE material with the same microstructural effect as Ca2RuO4-y, and succeeded in producing fine particles with a particle size of about 1 μm and exhibiting NTE characteristics comparable to bulk by the spray-drying method.
