    In the high Knudsen number flows, like micro gaseous flows and flows in vacuum, the gas-surface interaction plays an important role. Among many gas species, water is a common and useful fluid in wide area of engineering applications, and it is one of the main residual gas components in the high vacuum environment. However, experimental measurements on the gas-surface interaction of water molecules are still limited. In this study, we focus on the accommodation coefficient, which represents the mean behavior of gas molecules on the scattering process from a surface. We measure the thermal accommodation coefficient (TAC) and the tangential momentum accommodation coefficient (TMAC) of water molecules. TAC is measured from the heat flux between two surfaces with different temperatures in vacuum. TMAC is derived through the viscous slip coefficient from the measurement of the mass flow rate through a microtube. To investigate the characteristics of water molecules clearly, the measured accommodation coefficients are compared with those of noble gases, helium, neon, and argon, measured with the same apparatus and procedures. For the accommodation coefficients of noble gases, TAC increases with increasing the molecular weight, while TMAC decreases, which are in good agreement with the previous studies. The TAC and TMAC of water are slightly larger than those estimated from the corresponding molecular weight of noble gases.

    Polymer solutions under shear flow are often observed in manufacturing processes. Classically, polymer behavior is represented by Kuhn’s bead-spring model, in which only the elongation of polymer chains is assumed. In recent years, the compression of polymer chains under shear flow has been reported. In this study, we investigated the behavior of polymer chains dissolved in various concentrations under shear flow. We measured the time variation of the fluorescence intensity emitted from a FRET (fluorescence resonance energy transfer) polymer, which enabled us to study the change in the distance between both ends of a polymer chain. The polymer chains appeared to stretch and compress depending on the concentration of the polymer solution. The results showed that the deformation of polymer chains was different from the classical theory. The FRET measurement is a promising diagnostic method for understanding the dynamics of polymer chains.

    In the present paper, we provide an analytical expression for the first-and second-order thermal slip coefficients, σ1,T and σ2,T, by means of a variational technique that applies to the integrodifferential form of the Boltzmann equation based on the true linearized collision operator for hard-sphere molecules. The Cercignani-Lampis scattering kernel of the gas-surface interaction has been considered in order to take into account the influence of the accommodation coefficients (αt, αn) on the slip parameters. Comparing our theoretical results with recent experimental data on the mass flow rate and the slip coefficient for five noble gases (helium, neon, argon, krypton, and xenon), we found out that there is a continuous set of values for the pair (αt, αn) which leads to the same thermal slip parameters. To uniquely determine the accommodation coefficients, we took into account a further series of measurements carried out with the same experimental apparatus, where the thermal molecular pressure exponent γ has been also evaluated. Therefore, the new method proposed in the present work for extracting the accommodation coefficients relies on two steps. First of all, since γ mainly depends on αt, we fix the tangential momentum accommodation coefficient in such a way as to obtain a fair agreement between theoretical and experimental results. Then, among the multiple pairs of variational solutions for (αt, αn), giving the same thermal slip coefficients (chosen to closely approximate the measurements), we select the unique pair with the previously determined value of αt . The analysis carried out in the present work confirms that both accommodation coefficients increase by increasing the molecular weight of the considered gases, as already highlighted in the literature.

    © 2020 We developed a simultaneous measurement technique for temperature distribution on a heated surface and gas-liquid interface motion of two-phase flows in microgap channel using temperature-sensitive paint (TSP). Since the TSP layer is optically transparent, the proposed method enables us to simultaneously measure the temperature distribution and the motion of gas-liquid interface through the TSP layer using an in-house stereoscope-like device. Since the refractive index of gas-phase differs from that of liquid-phase, the luminescent intensity of TSP in gas-phase varies from that in liquid-phase even though the temperatures are same in both phases. Then, we proposed a correction method for temperature distribution in gas-phase. To validate the proposed method, the temperature distribution measurements were conducted in liquid single-phase flow. The Nusselt numbers calculated from the measured temperatures were in good agreement with the Sieder-Tate equation. Then, we measured the temperature distributions for the boiling flows under several heated temperature conditions. The temperature distributions at growing bubble and bubble coalescence were successfully measured. TSP is useful method for investigating the temperature distribution in two-phase flows.

    Boiling and Two-phase flow in narrow channel has been recently proposed for cooling the heat sources directly in application of thermal management for electronic devices. Many researches were carried out to investigate the mechanism of heat transfer in the narrow channel. In this study, the boiling heat transfer and gas-liquid behavior on the heated surface in narrow channel is investigated experimentally by using Temperature-Sensitive Paint (TSP). Experiments are performed in a single rectangular narrow channel having 10 mm width, 35 mm heated length and 0.5 mm height and using FC-72 as a test fluid. TSP coated on the heated wall located at upper side of the channel is used to obtain the local temperature and subsequently local heat flux distribution. In addition, simultaneous flow visualizations are conducted to observe and explore the flow boiling in narrow channel. Flow rate of FC-72 is 24-30 ml/min and heated water at 45-50 ◦C is used as a heat source for boiling of the test fluid. Pressure at the inlet of the test section is about 50 kPa. As a result, the heat flux in the thin liquid film region that is located around bubbles is 4-5 times higher than that of other region.

    マイクロ熱流動場ではクヌッセン数が大きくなるため,固体表面における境界条件が大きく影響する.しかし,実在の表面に対する境界条件を高精度に表現することは容易ではない.この境界条件とは分子の固体表面における散乱過程のことであり,代表的なパラメータとして分子の固体表面への平均的な適応割合を示す適応係数が知られており,熱輸送に関するエネルギー適応係数(EAC)や流動抵抗に関する接線方向運動量適応係数(TMAC)が実験的に計測されている.そこで,散乱過程に対する異なる統計平均量であるこれら二つの適応係数を同じ固体表面試料に対して比較解析することで,高クヌッセン数となるマイクロ熱流動場における実在表面に対する境界条件を提案することを目指す.
    本年度は,TMACに対する2つの計測システムとEACに対する計測システムの構築と検証を実施した.まずは,金属細線周りの外部流れを用いてTMACを計測する同心二重円管の計測システムでは,微細金属線を用いても流量変化が十分計測できることを確認した.一方で一部の実験結果が理論値と一致しないことから,実験装置の改良の必要性が明らかとなった.もう一方は,粘性真空計を参考にした平行円盤の回転を用いたTMACの計測システムであり,定量的にも既存の結果と矛盾しないことを確認した.更なる検証が今後求められる.EACの計測システムとしては大気圧に近い領域で計測可能な金属細線からの熱流束を計測するシステムの構築を行った.温度を一定にした状態での熱流束の計測からEACを導出できることを確認できたので,今後は高真空状態での計測が既存の知見と一致することを検証していく.
    また,実験結果と境界条件モデルに用いるパラメータセットとの関係を詳しく調査し,その関係性を明らかにした.
    当初の計画通り,同じ固体表面試料に対して二つの適応係数を計測して比較できるようにするための計測システムの構築を,それぞれ2種類のアプローチにより行った.新しく構築した計測システムの検証も進んでおり,さらなる改良により計測結果の精度の改善が期待できる.
    境界条件モデルに関しては,既存の結果を整理することにより,パラメーターセットと得られる統計平均量であるEACやTMACとの関係を明らかにした.この結果を用いることにより,実験的な計測結果を用いて高精度な境界条件のパラメーターセットを提案することが可能になると期待できる.
    今後は計測システムの検証を進め,その後TMAC及びEACの計測を行う.特にクヌッセン数に依存する流れ領域の違いによる影響を詳しく実験的に調査する.得られた結果から境界条件モデルのパラメーターセットを導出するとともに,境界条件モデルの改良についても検討を行う.

    In numerical simulations, we confirmed that when we put a micro-sized object near a substrate with different temperature from above, upward or downward Knundsen force is exerted on the object. Then, we investigated the mechanism of this force. In experiments, we successfully measured the effect of the force exerted on the object. By putting the experimental system into a vacuum desiccator, we investigated the effect of pressure and successfully understood its tendency in detail.

    In this study, a method to measure the temperature jump in the slip flow regime was studied, and characteristics of the temperature jump coefficient for gas mixtures as a function of the molar ratio was investigated. The concentric spherical shells geometry was employed for the measurement; however, it was hard to explain measured values theoretically. Therefore, the heat transfer in the apparatus was studied in detail, and a measurement system with the coaxial cylinders geometry was constructed. The thermal accommodation coefficients for gas mixtures were measured, and characteristics of the temperature jump coefficient were estimated.
