    近年、トポロジカル絶縁体や磁気スキルミオンといった、トポロジーに守られた物質の創製と物性に注目が集まっている。これらは電子や磁気に関するものだが、同じアナロジーが適用され得る分極については、ほとんど開拓されていない。そこで本研究では、常誘電体に挟まれた強誘電体超薄膜に発現する微小な渦状分極に着目し、分極スキルミオンの創製とその駆動制御を目指す。具体的には、強誘電体超薄膜の電気的・機械的境界条件の制御による分極スキルミオンの形成と、電場が分極スキルミオンに与える影響の解明、およびそれを用いた駆動制御に取り組む。
    近年、トポロジカル絶縁体や磁気スキルミオンといった、トポロジーに守られた物質の創製と物性に大きな注目が集まっている。これらは電子や磁気に関するものだが、同じアナロジーが適用され得る分極については、ほとんど開拓されていない。そこで、本研究では、常誘電体に挟まれた強誘電体超薄膜に発現する微小な渦状分極に着目し、分極スキルミオンの創製とその駆動制御を目指す。具体的には、強誘電体超薄膜の電気的・機械的境界条件の制御による分極スキルミオンの形成と、電場が分極スキルミオンに与える影響の解明、およびそれを用いた駆動制御に取り組む。
    R4年度は、強誘電体超薄膜における電気的・機械的境界条件の操作による分極スキルミオンの形成と、電場が分極スキルミオンに与える影響の解明に取り組んだ。パルスレーザー堆積法を用いて、DyScO3基板上にSrRuO3下部電極層を堆積し、その上に、強誘電体として(Pb,Sr)TiO3、常誘電体としてSrTiO3を用いた超格子薄膜を作製し、各層の厚み・組成の制御によって、分極スキルミオンを有する薄膜の作製条件を明らかにした。得られた薄膜は、分極スキルミオンが広い範囲で形成されており、電子顕微鏡に加え、X線回折および圧電応答顕微鏡でも観測可能であることがわかった。また、電場下X線回折によって、スキルミオン領域における渦状分極の周期性が、可逆的かつ高速(50μ秒以内)に変化することを見出した。
    当初の計画通り、R4年度は分極スキルミオンの形成に取り組んだほか、電場が分極スキルミオンに与える影響の解明を進めた。概ね計画通り、順調に進展している状況にある。
    R5年度は、引き続き分極スキルミオンの形成に取り組み、より少ない層数でスキルミオンが生成できる条件を探る予定である。また、圧電応答顕微鏡を用いた電場印加により、スキルミオンの駆動制御に取り掛かる予定である。

    本研究は、強誘電体のナノスケール構造における特異な分極回転ダイナミクスを利用して、バルク材料を超える巨大分極結合効果の発現を目指すものである。
    我々は最近の研究で、強誘電体のナノロッドの表面や人工超格子膜の界面では、分極の不連続性によって、外場で可逆的かつ大きな分極回転が起き得ることを見出した。本研究では、この知見を深化させ、分極回転のダイナミクスを利用して、巨大な分極結合効果の発現を図る。具体的には、人工超格子の自立膜を用いて、従来より高い圧電効果・電気光学効果の実現と、さらには、これらに匹敵するフレキソ効果の発現に取り組む。

    R4年度は、強誘電体/強誘電体人工超格子として正方晶PZT/菱面体晶PZT人工超格子を作製し、その分極応答を、主に誘電測定および圧電応答顕微鏡で調べた。特に、圧電応答顕微鏡を用いた非共振ストレインカーブ測定による電界誘起歪みの測定手法を確立し、これにより測定された電界誘起歪みと、電界下XRDで評価した圧電格子変位との比較を行った。また、熱力学現象論(ランダウ理論)を用いて分極回転の経路の理論解析を行った。それらの結果、正方晶PZT/菱面体晶PZT人工超格子における圧電応答は、界面での分極電荷の遮蔽の影響に加えて、2層間の格子ミスマッチによる歪みの影響が大きいことが明らかとなり、特性向上に向けた指針を得た。
    また、人工超格子の自立膜の作製に向けた予備実験を開始した。水溶性犠牲層(Sr,Ca)3Al2O3を導入した基板上に、犠牲層がない場合と同等の品質のエピタキシャルPZT薄膜を堆積する条件を明らかにし、200nmの厚みのエピタキシャルPZT膜をクラッキングを抑制しながら剥離する手法を確立した。
    当初の計画通り、R4年度は正方晶PZT/菱面体晶PZT人工超格子の分極回転ダイナミクスの解明に取り組んだほか、人工超格子の自立膜の作製に向けた剥離技術の開発を進めた。両テーマ共に同年度内に予定していた実験および解析が終了し、一部は計画を先行して研究を進めていることから、順調に進展している状況にある。
    R5年度は、引き続き強誘電体/強誘電体人工超格子における分極のダイナミクスの解明を継続するほか、強誘電体/常誘電体人工超格子における渦(ボルテックス)分極のダイナミクスの解明に主に取り組む。強誘電体と常誘電体を接合すると、強誘電体の分極電荷を遮蔽するために、渦状の分極構造が出現することが報告されている。この構造は両相の静電的・機械的エネルギーのバランスで安定化するため、電場印加で分極が大きな回転を伴って再配向する可能性がある。そこで、このダイナミクスを明らかにし、巨大応答に向けた指針を得る。また、人工超格子の自立膜の作製に向けて、水溶性犠牲層上への人工超格子膜の作製と剥離に取り組む。
